Post your reasons as to why this will not be like your favorite SWG Pre-CU.
-no dual classes
-no creature handler
-Jedi will not be rare
-no player owned cities
-player housing?
-player owned shops
-player owned vendors
-player bases
-space combat?
edit:
I would like to see game elements that allow for a living, breathing virtual world. There is more to SWs than 24/7 combat. Like in the real world, people eat, drink, buy, sell, they build things, they fix things, they collect things, they dance, they mingle, they party, they form relationships, they have a home, a place to work, etc. That was the most successful part of SWG Pre-CU and I would like to see that in TOR. Not just another "fight til you get bored and get all your lootz".
Comments
i wish the pre-cu "fan bois" would jsut let this thing go, game was never that good to begin with,
March on! - Lets Invade Pekopon
But it will have a storyline. lol.
Minority opinion, I win
So far, white is pretty much all we know. Red is speculation. But you guys are slowly catching on!
Very true frog, and I wonder why they even want this stuff either?

-no dual classes - Why do you need to be more than 1 thing?
-no creature handler - Go buy a dog.
-Jedi will not be rare - They aren't suppose to be rare. This is Knights of the Old Republic time frame.
-no player owned cities - Yeah like we really need 20 miles of silos and empty buildings scarring up the game world.
-player housing? - WHY do you need this? Even in games that have it, it is just a novel idea.
-player owned shops - Noone cares.
-player owned vendors - Noone cares, this particular one isn't even wanted or needed.... Ragnarok anyone? (shivers)
-player bases - Might be ok, this one I will say would be cool, if guilds could own a starbase or something.
-space combat? - Don't really need it, or care.
Yeah you didn't get the memo?
Nobody ever claimed this would be a sequel to/replacement for SWG. Probably because even when it was a decent game, SWG still wasn't Star Wars, it was just a fairly good sandbox game with a Star Wars graphical skin.
From a Star Wars perspective, the dual class thing is irrelevant since, well, there weren't any major characters who could be accurately described as "dual class," except maybe Luke. The creature handler was never a Star Wars thing. In all of the movies there was what, one character who could be considered a creature handler? The fat guy who cried when his rancor got killed. As for Jedi, given the time period of the game, there is no *reason* for them to be rare. As for all the player owned stuff, so what? Nobody has attempted to market this as a sandbox game, so a lack of sandbox features really isn't relevant. Though on the player housing issue there is a possibility that we will get customizable player ships that serve as houses.
On the space combat thing, it would be nice, but can wait for an expansion, as it is a completely seperate gameplay experience from the ground game. Also, SWG didn't even have space combat until after they had already broken the ground game.
Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall free me.
How do you know any of those statements are true? BioWare is still developing the damn game and is releasing very little. Just let it go. Pre-CU is gone, dead. If you want pre-CU SWG, go support the work on the emu. Who cares if TOR isn't like SWG? I mean really, who cares?

-no dual classes - Why do you need to be more than 1 thing? /facepalm
-no creature handler - Go buy a dog. /facepalm
-Jedi will not be rare - They aren't suppose to be rare. This is Knights of the Old Republic time frame. True
-no player owned cities - Yeah like we really need 20 miles of silos and empty buildings scarring up the game world. That can be changed
-player housing? - WHY do you need this? Even in games that have it, it is just a novel idea. It's a plus to have it
-player owned shops - Noone cares. MANY care about this, it's called "player ran economy"
-player owned vendors - Noone cares, this particular one isn't even wanted or needed.... Ragnarok anyone? (shivers) Ya I can agree kind of
-player bases - Might be ok, this one I will say would be cool, if guilds could own a starbase or something. Yup
-space combat? - Don't really need it, or care. Ya it doesn't exactly need this
pre-cu was broken and flawd in many ways but people always forget the bad parts.
March on! - Lets Invade Pekopon
Argh!!!!!! Who said it would be?!?!!??! Can we lock these threads or something, it isnt '' Star wars, back to galaxies!'' Its the old republic, they-are-not-the-same-game, it hardly has enough information out to make judgements, not even a release date, stop moaning, stop looking back, swg pre cu is gone, this is coming, live with it..
trust me I didn't forget the bad parts.
SWG was bad in Pre-CU
SWG was bad in NGE
SWG is bad now.
The further TOR stays away from anything resembling a SWG model the better.
I honstly doubt I will play it, because I see it failing before it even gets a fair shot due to the SWG Vet crowd.
But
I wish it well as we need another solid game to play besides wow.

...variety, you know I like apples in my oatmeal too!
-no creature handler - Go buy a dog.
...it was a player favorite, more variety, pet classes have been popular in many mmos
-Jedi will not be rare - They aren't suppose to be rare. This is Knights of the Old Republic time frame.
...if 95% of the player base is Jedi, it tends to be a little weird
-no player owned cities - Yeah like we really need 20 miles of silos and empty buildings scarring up the game world.
...if you have game worlds the size of planets, your point is moot
-player housing? - WHY do you need this? Even in games that have it, it is just a novel idea.
...it adds to player creativity, realism and immersion
-player owned shops/player owned vendors - Noone cares.

Yeah. People posting on a forum will make a game fail. Definitely logical.
Yeah. People posting on a forum will make a game fail. Definitely logical.
Not the people in the forum, the people in the game.
I forsee about 80% of the vet crowd heading to TOR.
Followed by a month solid of QQ about why they can't raise a jar jar of thier own or why they can't build a house.
I can't really stand these people in a forum setting.
I REALLY won't be able to stand them when I have to pay 15 a month to listen to a QQ fest.

What?!
Starsy Warsy doesn't need spacey combat?
Epic fail!
Right, im gonna ask a question, why can we not just sit here and atleast wait until the game even has a release date and the information to make a well informed judgement instead of this stupid abuse trying to get the games subscribers depressed, were going to play it whatever you say, if we want to, we can, if you dont want to, dont.
-no dual classes - Nope, no TKM dancing Doctors, though I’m sure you can dance in the cantina, heal, and beat the crap out of someone in the game with you fist, you just can’t run around with a title stating that you do can, since no one but you would care.
-no creature handler- I’m not sure there is a need to handle creatures in TOR unless they are a mount, go play Spore.
-Jedi will not be rare – Why would they be? Question is, what classes look more fun then Jedi? I already see 2.Was Jedi rare in SWG? As rare as Holocron drops at one time xD
-no player owned cities – neat, but pointless since most were empty ghost towns on planets that should have no cities other than the NPC ones. Tatootine was supposed to be a vast desert, minus ghost towns.
-player housing? – Why? So they can clutter up the landscape, cause lag and block points of interest, and over all not fit in? Yeah it’s great rolling out to the Sarlac only to pass by a house that says “SOE SUXMEHBALLZAC” Or one with a sign titled aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh.lloooooooooooongestt.signiiiin.theee.wooooooooooooooorld!!!!
-player owned shops - pointless way to make someone have to drive to BFE to dig through messy un organized vendors and over pay for something just because the person selling it is greedy.
-player owned vendors – Players never really owned them, just borrowed them, I imagine there will be a much cooler way to trade goods in TOR. So I doubt you'll see a Twi'lek vendor in hawt pants that says "me love u long time" everytime someone walks through the door.
-player bases – Bases in SWG were pointless and stupid anyways. Out of all the guilds I was in while I played on Bloodfin Bases were no more than a pain in the ass, the upkeep, the constant need to protect from an enemy who never showed up when you would rather be doing other things. The bugged factional detectors, all of it, lame. SWG never really did anything really well, it was all broken in some way which allowed players to exploit, this was why players thought this broke shit was fun.
-space combat? – If it is in TOR I imagine it will be done much better than SWG since the Hero engine has the ability to stream instances (like space), unlike in SWG you could launch from a ground base and fly straight into space seamlessly with no loading screen at all.

Stop living vicariously through other people, then. Their $15 a month is just as good as yours. They reserve the right to suggest the way they think a game should move, too.
Seems that you can't accept that people have different preferences than you. Saying you can't stand someone just because they don't enjoy something the same way you do?
Pfft.

...It is called making an alt character. Learn to play one class they give you before telling them you need to mix another into it. geez.
Not even wow does this, and it caters to EVERYONE! Maybe I should head over to blizzard forum and ask them if they can let use be a Warrior/Priest/Rogue.
Would be awesome no?! ..... yeah the answer is NO!
-no creature handler - Go buy a dog.
...it was a player favorite, more variety, pet classes have been popular in many mmos
...A player favorite to the SWG crowd, which isn't what this game is about. They should leave it out just for spite of SWG.
-Jedi will not be rare - They aren't suppose to be rare. This is Knights of the Old Republic time frame.
...if 95% of the player base is Jedi, it tends to be a little weird
...Well it will be more like 99.9% so prepare yourself to be "weirded out"
-no player owned cities - Yeah like we really need 20 miles of silos and empty buildings scarring up the game world.
...if you have game worlds the size of planets, your point is moot
...I don't care if they build a game world the size of the milky way galaxy. I don't want to ride 20 miles looking at silos and empty buildings. Pretty sure the devs don't either which is why it wont be there.
-player housing? - WHY do you need this? Even in games that have it, it is just a novel idea.
...it adds to player creativity, realism and immersion
... games aren't ment to be "real". If you want to be creative write a book or something. You want some immersion, go slam your head in a toilet... Play the game for what it is, a game.
-player owned shops/player owned vendors - Noone cares.
...it makes player housing and merchants in the world seem more realistic, adds player creativity to the game environment, immersion
...Not really worried about immersion. Bioware's story telling makes the immersion for me. I don't plan on sitting in a starbase, trying to buy a lapdance from a twilik while checking on deathsticks.
... I live on planet earth with a wife, 3 kids, a dog and a house with a white fence. It's called reality. TOR is called a game. Learn the difference in the two.
-player bases - Might be ok, this one I will say would be cool, if guilds could own a starbase or something.
...same comment as the shops
...same comment as the shops
-space combat? - Don't really need it, or care.
...it's Star Wars... space... der?
...Well let's see, I played KOTOR 1 and 2... and I never got to fly around and shoot at other players. Guess what, didn't really need to be there, didn't add anything to the story.
Are you a games subscriber thats waiting for a release date?
And why should I wait until the game has launched in order to discuss it?
You forgot to mention SWG lacked space until JTL

I don't care what they do, they can spend $15 a month to cry if they want to, I just said I wouldn't be there to listen to it.
Cry babies ruining a game isn't my idea of fun.
You are also very poor at reading comprehension.
I never said I couldn't stand them because they enjoy something I don't.
I said I couldn't stand them because they whine like little school girls with a skinned knee.
QQ all you want.
PS. need a tissue? I can email you one.

This thread is doomed.
