"Go troll somewhere else.

Believe it or not, it takes a very long time to make wearables in this game. Believe it or not, the Rebels were just as upset with the Hoth armor. I find the very rude comments about the hard work my art team put in this game very disconcerting. They work very hard at getting new rewards in the game, and get very little thanks for it. I like the Imperial Galactic Marine Armor. In fact I think it is one of the best armors in the movies.

I am not going to delay the update for a month just so we can make another set of armor, which will most likely be unappreciated as well. If you dont like the armor, don't buy it."

The lead dev's response to someone complaining about the Imperial reward armor from the upcoming WoW copied battlefields.  You know the game is headed in the right direction when the dev team doesn't care how the playerbase feels about what they are doing to the game, because they figure the players won't like anything they do.  Well, they care so far as to be irritated by the feedback, but not enough to try and make something the playerbase wants or likes.  It is that kind of right thinking that has made SWG such a shining success in the MMORPG world...

I like that a handful of asskissers had to jump in and respond how they really like the new armor, in the hopes of getting a nice pat on the head.  It reminds me of the little dog that jumps around the bigger dog in those old cartoons, constantly telling the bigger dog how wonderful he is.

If the only thing they have to complain about is how ugly the new armor is... the rest of the game must be pretty damn nice.

That said, if they feel the need to whine about how ugly the new armor is... I'm going to have to agree with the devs on this one:  Don't buy it.

Heh...so you are now labeled a "Troll" by management if you provide feeback they dislike in regards to what they develop?

    Epic

I have watched the outcry about the imp armor and I can say from my observations that tons more voiced their displeasure about the imp armor than the reb armor.

Fire the art team tbh cause they can't even do a nice UI and fire whoever does the animations cause they suck too.

Infact just close the game down and fire the whole team and forget about the disaster that was SWG.

Keep in mind that the majority of the Austin art team's time is spent working on the DC Comics game, and every couple months they need to whip out a few items for the SWG TCG.  The art additions for the SWG updates probably rewuire them to knock it out within a day or two, so they can get back to working on something that the company believes has potential.

There is no dedicated artist assigned to SWG.  The SWG team has to 'share' with the DCU team.  "Share" in this case meaning hope one of the artists working on the DCU game has a little bit of free time to whip out some shoddy looking art assets for SWG.

kobie's little minion certainly got e-smacked for their trolling comment but really Loche should have just stepped away from the keyboard before posting an emotionally charged post like that and either deleted the offending post or had the moderators do it.

    But...it wouldn't be SWG without forum e-drama.

I'm sick and tired of these developers behaving like they're doing us a frakking favor.  They get their paychecks, that's thanks enough in anyone's book.  These people need to learn how to be professional.  They're a business not a frakking charity.  Do your job, do it well and you'll get your paycheck.  If you're looking for thanks, adoration or appreciation, become a movie or rock star and get the hell out of the programming business.

With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal

I think he put that in to 'prove' the players wouldn't be happy with anything they did.  That justifies his belief that the dev team need not try to make things the playerbase would like.

Loche's response and attitude reminds me alot of Garva's crude post back in the CU that caused about 1300 pages of responses in less than an hour- if anyone remembers that one, the one where he basically said "sit down and shut up" after an EQ2 dev made a post about "you guys are mean" and got flamed at (he deserved it IMO).

As a 3D artist myself (Virtually, not in house) I just have to say that I can understand how he is annoyed that people don't appreciate there hard work but I think if you're a lead developer you shouldn't really post such normal player- esque comments and really get annoyed about stuff like this. It's not proffesional at all. Anyone agree?

Well the first thing is.. no its not professional.  Whether someone likes what you make or not.. they are your customer.  You are optional to them....  If you want to make money.. customers are not optional.  When people break a community rule you deal with that.. you don't derail it into some rant of how they don't appreciate you.

We can do that here... we can rant etc we aren't trying to sell a product to each other.  The moment you have a "red name" etc you are a representitive of a company.  The first thing you'd be told in CS... "while your views are not always the companies views... anything you say while representing the company is seen as the company view..."  Which means if you don't like a post... don't respond.  If you can't take the critics then move on... and respond on some 3rd party site or blog as a former employee...

Then there is another issue I have with this.

We run a digital art studio here.  We make development kits that are sold on what you'd term "indie sites" for people to use in game development.  We sell things in Second Life... Houses, Armor/Weapons (for various combat systems), texture kits etc..

Its hard to create a suit of armor in SWG?  I'd hate to see them try to create a suit of armor in SL then....

They are given a 3 to 6 month period to create a suit of armor.. maybe a few.  I have artists here that can make multiple suits of armor a DAY.  That's how they make money....  If they took 3 months to make a crappy looking set of armor... they wouldn't be feeding themselves.

People here also don't just get a copy of 3D Studio Max, Maya and any other 3D art tool they could ever want tossed at them.  You go look at the cost of commercial licenses for those games... and *ponder* what you'd do if you had to buy that on your own.  What I mean by this is SOE is providing all of these things for those employees... my little self has to buy those licenses for our use.

Then you go see the quality of work some people pull off with the free Art tools...  if you've ever used one... you know why its pretty impressive.

Then go back and read the "you don't know how hard it is to make a set or armor over the course of months..." line and see what your perspective is.

People call something that looks like CRAP.... CRAP.   In SWG or any MMO you don't often get the choice of what you'll wear or use... and quite honestly almost all MMO's have gear that looks like CRAP.  There are some pretty awesome environmental artist but on average... well there are only a few MMO's where I think the armor etc looks very well done.  When you are in the market I am in.. people either buy your product or they don't.  If it looks like CRAP you don't eat.... I suppose that's more motivation to do better... or improve then getting paid regardless.

So not only does it look very unprofessional... it seems pretty whiney from my point of view.  Good thing their getting paid isn't based on quality of work... or they wouldn't have the energy to complain.

Loche lashed not because of critisism about the armour. But because the player suggested that Loche doesnt care about Imp armour because he plays Rebel on live. This implies that Loche isnt professional, which is a direct attack. It is either a mod edit or a dev that defends himself and his team. I prefer the last option.

Some ppl actually do like the armour. Im not one of them, but why shouldnt I believe the others? I mean blame LucasArts for making that armourset looking almost exact the same as snowtrooper.

What kind of vet are you if you dont even know that SWG used to have a battlefield system before WoW?

In other words, someone accuses Loche of being unprofessional, and then he responds in an unprofessional manner. Seems like someone hit pretty close to the mark...

Translation:  I'm sick of being pulled away from real projects to come toss something together for swg.  Be thankful it isn't being resold to you at $2.99 per random chance where the majority of his efforts go.
