I find the very rude comments about the hard work my art team put in this game very disconcerting. They work very hard at getting new rewards in the game, and get very little thanks for it. Translation:  I'm sick of being pulled away from real projects to come toss something together for swg.  Be thankful it isn't being resold to you at $2.99 per random chance where the majority of his efforts go.

The lead dev's response to someone complaining about the Imperial reward armor from the upcoming WoW copied battlefields.  You know the game is headed in the right direction when the dev team doesn't care how the playerbase feels about what they are doing to the game, because they figure the players won't like anything they do.  Well, they care so far as to be irritated by the feedback, but not enough to try and make something the playerbase wants or likes.  It is that kind of right thinking that has made SWG such a shining success in the MMORPG world...
I like that a handful of asskissers had to jump in and respond how they really like the new armor, in the hopes of getting a nice pat on the head.  It reminds me of the little dog that jumps around the bigger dog in those old cartoons, constantly telling the bigger dog how wonderful he is.

Loche lashed not because of critisism about the armour. But because the player suggested that Loche doesnt care about Imp armour because he plays Rebel on live. This implies that Loche isnt professional, which is a direct attack. It is either a mod edit or a dev that defends himself and his team. I prefer the last option.

Some ppl actually do like the armour. Im not one of them, but why shouldnt I believe the others? I mean blame LucasArts for making that armourset looking almost exact the same as snowtrooper.

What kind of vet are you if you dont even know that SWG used to have a battlefield system before WoW?

As a "professional" that he is, he could have dealt with the attack (which could merely have been a witty remark from the poster) in a more eloquent manner.

He could have perfectly questionned the poster if he was suggesting the armor was there because he was rebel. I think the poster would have gotten the hint.

Attacking him back by calling him a troll is not professional at all, but then again that is typical of SOE employees.

Very few of the posters on the OBoard have had anything positive to say about the Imperial reward armor.  That is what set Loche off, hence the statement that changing the reward armor to something else would not be appreciated to the extent he believes it should be.  It wasn't his lack of professionalism being questioned that set him off, it was his lack of professionalism, combined with the general hostility towards customers found throughout SOE, that caused him to respond in the manner he did.

In no way did I imply that I was unaware of the battlefields that were once in SWG.  The battlefields that are being implemented are nothing like those battlefields, but a direct clone of the battlefields found in World of Warcraft.  Unfortunately the combat system in SWG is the worst combat system found in an MMO, which severely limits the benefits of adding WoW styled battlefields.

In other words, someone accuses Loche of being unprofessional, and then he responds in an unprofessional manner. Seems like someone hit pretty close to the mark...

Sadly, Loche's outburst of unprofessionalism was spawned by his unprofessionalism, not any perceived attack on his unprofessionalism.  His post is no different than Elias' attack on the OBoard poster that had been trading emails with the Smed, or the former SOE producer's attack on you.

Loche's reply in no way indicates he was offended by his professionalism being questoned, but it does indicate it is the general dislike of the Imperial reward armor that set him off.

If I was in the game development business, I would do my utmost to avoid SWG.  It's had so many code rewrites and player schisms that I can't imagine how working on it could bring much more than heartache at this point.  A lot of people are burned, bitter and divided.  Of course you're not going to please them.

In fact when I talk to former devs (or other staff) and former players, I hear a lot of the same bitterness and frustration.  It's my opinion that this is related largely to the way the game was managed.  To me it's like the Bermuda triangle of MMOs.

You aren't kidding about the number of changes in the NGE, more than pre-CU and CU combined. Weapons, combat mechanics and mobs were the most affected, I remember weapons didn't even show an attack rate and were 75% profession restricted, then they added attack speed, then they revamped damage output, then they revamped damage output again then added a few craftable weapons that adds elemental through instances then revamped general crafted weapons. Combat mechanics, jeez glancing blow was changed several times alone, with the first release of the NGE, Jedi had 0 armor for the first 4 or so months and the character sheet showed "offense" and "defense" damage modifiers which wsa quickly scratched.

The CU was meant to eliminate the need for doctor buffs, which was the case for half a year then came the NGE, and people started asking for buffs to come back and the devs gave buffs in dozens, now with the tougher mobs you almost can't go without buffs unless you're a Jedi or standfast commando and in pvp you regularly fight people with 40-50 buffs... it's ridiculous.

My answer as both a player and a customer would be the following.

    Dear Sir,

we understand it takes time and efforts to create new wearables. So far the slowness at which you deliver content does not proves us you are really committed at all. When I say you I mean all SOE, not just your team.

Regarding how much free content is delivered regularly in others MMO we can ever wonder if you're really trying at all. Not to say lately it seems you are much more interested in making money with the trading card game than anything else, not to say fixing bugs...

So far the burden of the proof is on your side. We, player, would be really pleased to say thank you but you need to deserve it. It isn't a meatless bone thrown at us that'll make us /deepbow.

From a player point of view SWG is barely playable, lagging on high end computers, has one of the worst MMO UI, a half finished combat system, quite no content and unbalanced classes.

Until you work on the core mechanics the game will stay in it's actual, very poor, state.

In the end, regarding the upcoming of TOR, we all know the days of SWG are counted and you do nothing to show us otherwise. So please let this game die in peace and find a new job. It's better for both of us.

    A player.
