Perhaps they are interested in releasing a well put together game. With few bugs and plenty of content. Looking at the release of last years games, ad the back-lash those games have been receiving for their issues. A company would be crazy to try releasing a half-assed product.

I would rather wait to get good game than not to wait to get piece of sh*it game full of bugs etc

    Currently playing: N/A :(
Retired from: GW, WAR, Aion, LOTRO, Rift, SW:TOR, Vinductus

Indeed. They wouldn't want to ruin their reputation, they have to time development and release to their own and other existing products as well. Maybe they plan to make some more proffitsss on GW I expansions first, with just a margin of the development costs and a huge playerbase that seems to be damn proffitable compared to rushing the development of your new game and throwing your old cash cow out of the window.

It seems alot longer because EOTN was so short and all there is left to do is title grind until GW2. I bet it is another year before they even consider setting a release date. The best thing to do if you are bored in GW is to just go play other games until Arenanet gets off their high horses and finally decides to show us something.

This has been a tend Ive seen over the last 2 years. A huge forum campaign crying for the release of a game, followed by another push as to how they should have waited to release the game

    Often by the same posters

I understand that quality is parmount, yet why tell us March 07 and give us NOTHING, not even ONE screeny.

It sounds like 2011 will be the release year, so that's 4 years almost 5.

Come now,  that's just torture, and they risk DUKENUKEM syndrome.

Because they had to warn the Guild Wars community they would be concentrating on the new project more then the original, they gave us a last hoorah with Eye of the North and that's pretty much it until GW2. Which is weaksauce to be honest, but it could be that their team is not big enough to fully support both games, usually one studio takes care of one game, not two games.

Also it's really not that unusual for games to take 5 years to come out after the original announcement, these are mmos not single player games.

Duke Nukem has been cancelled, or they studio folded or something along those lines. Not really the same thing. :P

I do not agree, the last blast of new content was almost the size of EotN.  (4th year b-day content)

    Creates flaws in your logic.

Man, how many threads have there been on this subject?!  They only said anything about working on GW2 to explain why they released EotN instead of "Utopia", which was supposed to be the fourth chapter.  They have a Live Team of four people working on Guild Wars.  EVERYONE else is working on GW2.

They aren't going to release ANYTHING on the game until after Aion NA/EU is released and has a chance to run.  The game's beta won't be out till at least next year.  They are making a WoW-size MMO.  Do you think that takes just two-three years from start to release?  If you do, you're a moron.  Personally, it makes me smile every time they don't cave to the fanbois and idiots screaming for content.  AoC gave content.  Tabula Rasa gave a lot of content.  WAR gave content, and was made in three years.  TR was rebooted from scratch two years before it came out.  You want THAT for GW2?

Go outside.  Enjoy the sun.  Play another game.  I look at how long Aion and GW2 are taking as a good sign of things to come.

Didn't they just release a content update for GW?

Well Haggus if you want to sling mud, let's do this. Sometimes it's better to remain silent and appear stupid than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. My main point is that why tell the fanbase that you have a PART2 coming out only to leave them in the dark for 4+ years. It creates more anamosty than antisipation. I've been playing GW since beta and the game has been evolvling since.  Why abandon such a tried and true method. GW is not even close to the same game it was back at release.  Why can't they give us a date and then shoot for it.  If there are setbacks fine, at least they keep the lines of communication open with that base of clients. Release the game, get feedback from the players and improve the game WITH the community involved, just like they did with GW1.  When i mentioned DUKENUKEM sydrome it's more of a metaphore than a specific instance or happen stance.  The longer you leave us in the dark the harder it is to focus on the prize. (shed a little more light on the topic)

I keep hearing, "They don't want anybody to steal thier ideas and such, that's why they are so tight lipped"  Just by anoucing they have a GW2 in the works is slip enough.  Now they have every other brother trying to beat them to the punch.  Check out wiki/topic GW2 there is more than enough information on the games ideals and goals to start an offensive.

I suppose this is my own fault for not being more clear in my original post, but back to that topic.  {GW1 Dev Team = WoW Dev's and creators} The team that made blizzard what it is today left WoW because they had a no nonsense point of view.  They didn't want to creat a game everybody would like, they wanted to create a game they liked.  And now they are heading right back to trouble, and trying to create a world in which everybody can be happy.  F**K em.  Stop trying to make a perfect game and just do what you want, if the game is good the players will come. JUST LIKE GW1.  Stop trying to make a WoW killer and give us the game, we'll help you make it GREAT!!

Let them take all the time they need. I'm sick and tired of companies shelling out games that make you feel like you're still beta testing it for them while you also give them money. I would much rather companies wait until something is actually ready for the public not pull a Funcom.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

Yes, I know but I still have to buy the game.  I don't want to buy something that when I get it - it is half-assed (i.e. Funcomed).

Your just blowing wind Cynthe.  You said nothing came after EotN.  Get your facts straight before you open your mouth again and remove all doubt.

Jelly!  so your saying GW1 was Half-assed.  Man this is pointless.  Your all just typing to see your own text.

I've got plenty of MMO's I can play while I wait for GW2.

I'm just as excited as any other person who enjoys MMO's and is looking forward to the release of another new one onto the market, but I certainly am not going to complain "Why is it taking so long?"

MMO's invaribly take years to produce, and if things such as a world reccession should happen during your production then I'm sure that it would have a detrimental effect of that development.

Other than that, just be patient and leave the GW2 to get on with their work, I'm glad they announced the game is in production, gives everyone a heads up that they will be able to enjoy further adventures in the GW universe.

Uh no...although you might be right about this being pointless if that's what you're gathering from people's responses is observations like you made from mine.

    Touche!  Jelly.  Point taken.

The pointless aspect is that people only read and understand what they want.  They don't have an open mind.  I understand that MMO's take time, but why the silence?  Let us get involved, let us enjoy the jouney with you.

Keeping it under wraps only opens themselves up to shelving a game that the players didn't realy want.

All this cloak and dagger does is make people create their own image of the game and when it's is released the dissapointmets, if any, become that much more enlarged.

I don't see why you think they are trying to make a wow killer and why they are trying to cater to everyone?

My thought as to the delay is that they are dealing with technical issues. Remember, they made a claim that the entire world will be open with the exception of missions. Problem with that is that part of the thing that made guild wars so "doable" was the instanced world.

And they need to sell enough copies to run these servers and still develop.

I think they are trying to contend with making a large open world game, filling it with content that isn't same old same old and doing it in a way so that they can remain financially feasible to go the long haul.

    I like this one.

However, the reason i quit guildwars is because i heard about gw2 coming pretty soon. If they didnt tell this information, i would enjoy gw still and buy expansion, but i didnt. So in my case, they made mistake telling this. I would prefer them not to say this too early as they did. I like

Blizzard policy with diablo 3 better and i am pretty sure it comes out this year.

    Playing: Rohan
Played (from best to worst): Shadowbane, Guild Wars, Shayia, Age of Conan, Warhammer, Runes of Magic, Rappelz, Archlord, Knight online, King of Kings, Kal online, Last chaos
