I would like to know when any criticism became hateing. Who is the ignorant one in this situation?
Granted, there are tons that simply "hate", but really any critisism, oh, excuse me, its really "differing point of view than a fan" seems to equial trolling/hater. even if you are talking about how clunky the UI is, somthing that isn't opinion. Its an observation.
Critics dont rant negativly 100 times over on the same thing. They are called trolls/haters.
Look what you just did. I said criticism, you immediately called it negative ranting. Good job?
Criticism
Criticism in terms of expectations means democratic judgment over the suitability of a subject for the intended purposes, as opposed to the authoritarian command, which is meant as an absolute realization of the authority's will, thus not open for debate.
In my original post i was talking about haters and you said "Since when did criticism become hating" I never mentioned critiziscm, only haters. NIce work on blaming me for something you did.
Good job?
um, the very first line of your sentence is about "hating", not haters. pointing that out since you're making a distinction between 'haters' and 'hating'.
so um... stop trolling please.
Someone who persistently "hates" on something would be called a "hater" I can give you english lessons later if you want.
I don't understand why people get more enjoyment from hating something than doing something they actually enjoy. Let the people who enjoy and actually play DF, post on the forums, while the people who dislike it go do something more enjoyable and productive? Some people just cant stand it when others enjoy what they hate. They want to disenfranchise a company that makes a product they don't like. Big deal, no one is holding a gun to your head telling you to buy and play it. Since when did opinion = fact? DF isnt the messiah, it isnt the bane either. It is what you make of it. I guess some peoples minds havent developed enough to understand this concept. The only reason i defend it is so that someone who might actually ENJOY the game doesnt get led astray by people wanting to see themselves type.
I think you're off base on a couple of things here.
Right off the bat, you're here complaining about something, so apply whatever your reason is to those people and you're set.
Secondly, its not like the pub said, "Hey we made a game, come check it out, see if you like it" If they did that then the people who didn't like it would probably walk away and not have too much to say about it. But when company over-hypes and promises something they don't deliver to people who've paid, its called ripping people off, and some people don't like it. So not only do they like to vent because its a harmless endevour that feels good, its also good to let potential customers you got ripped off so they can be forewarned.
Thirdly, I think if you've read any of the posts from people not liking DF, you'll find that while their conclusion of not liking it is an opinion, its a fact that they hold that opinion and also the things about DF people complain about that lead them to not like the game may also be factual. If someone says, I don't like DF because of a given game dynamic, or a promised feature is missing or broken, then again that they don't like that is an opinion, but its a fact that that dynamic is that way, or a feature is missing or broken.

So not agreeing with them is tearing them down? I agree that if it's truly the best game to that person then they should have the right to express why they think so. At the same time though people that totally hate all facets of the game should have the right to voice their opinion as well. If you you want to strip the haters right away then you have to give up yours as well.

This is exactly why I said I wouldn't try to explain the difference to you. Someone attempts to do so, and you get your feelings hurt.
And while I'm typing, "talking about how cluncky the UI is", is absolutely opinion. If you think it's clunky, and I don't think it's clunky, obviously we're talking about our opinion of the UI. Understand?
I dont need anything explaned to me. I all ready said there were people who simply "hate" on a game. My feelings hurt? Dont think so.
A unresponsive UI is an unresponsive UI, that's not opinion, its an observation of implementation. However your opinion is its "Just fine", and that's ok, but a broken, unresponsive UI is not opinion. "Just fine" is simply lowered expectation and acceptance of the UI and its state. A clunky UI is verifiable, "Its just fine" is an opinion and notverifiable, because its subjective..
Some (most) have higher standards.
Again, what you consider clunky, someone else might not consider clunky. Therefor, it is subjective, and not verifiable.
And where did "unresponsive" come from? You couldn't find a way to win the argument, so you thought you would just change it?
Please try harder next time.
Look, we are not talking about feel here. We are talking about polish, and competence in implementation.
Not "I don't mind having to press CTRL+SHIFT+A+42+HOME to see my inventory".
Your not debating my argument, your tossing out semantics, and attacking me personally, you all ready lost the argument. Also, just an FYI:
verifiable:
capable of being verified; "a verifiable account of the incident"
confirmable: capable of being tested (verified or falsified) by experiment or observation
In the context of hardware and software systems, formal verification is the act of proving or disproving the correctness of intended algorithms ...
Able to be verified or confirmed; Able to be qualified by a boolean expression
verifiability - Testability; specifically used to refer to that which can be tested empirically (by the senses); often associated with the "scientific" method; often said to be one of the essential elements in adequately testing the truth or reality of a statement or substance.

You are a pretty funny dude. Literally everyone of your posts seems to describe some weird alternate eutopian universe where everyone is respectful of each others opinions, people do not argue, everyone is a winner, there are no polarizing opinions, etc, etc, etc. I could literally link 20 posts where you express this same view, on 20 different active topics.
Unfortunately, that is not reality. If I want to hate on DF because I followed it forever only to be let down by the lies and overall clunky gameplay, then that is entirely my right, and luckily there are these things called forums to vent that frustration. I agree, I hate incessant trollers who say the same things over and over, but I also can't stand ridiculous, weird, flower power optimists. It just deoesn't fit in on an MMO forum to be honest. You really need to find a more suitable forum. I'm sure Oprah has some forum where everything posted is uplifting and moderated so that no ones feelings are hurt. I'm afraid your expectations for "forum-peace" are going to be left wanting.......

If only you would have realized this an hour ago, you would have saved me a lot of typing.
The only reason i defend it is so that someone who might actually ENJOY the game doesnt get led astray by people wanting to see themselves type.
Potential buyers needs to hear all sides not just the fanbois that absolutely love the game. The notion that people should just throw down 50 bucks for a game to find out for themselves is idiotic. I always do research before buying games something and I'm quite able to distinguish between a forum troll or valid complaints as i suspect anyone with an average intelligence can.
The only way to see if you like something is to try it, no one's opinion, no matter how much research you do will change that.
I disagree.
Information such as how severe the bugs are in a game, how much abuse and cheating going on, combat systems basically any information you can think of is valuable and is quite easily obtainable without ever loading up the game.
Example: I don't like my chat box being spammed by goldsellers every 5 seconds. This can be my only criteria. I see a game i like but lo and behold ..reading the forums i hear that goldspammers are spamming you not every 5 seconds but every 2 seconds. There is no way in turning it off and the game company has no interest in fixing it. Then i do not need to buy the game if i already know that thats a deal breaker.
The above is just 1 example out of many issues i can make for you that will be a dealbreaker for me. Not necessarily applicable to Darkfall but the idea of doing research beforehand. I can deal with macroing and botting because that takes place in ANY game. but if the game is badly programmed making people able to fall beneath the ground and kill you while being invulnerable then that's a pretty good indicator the game is not for me..that's another piece of information i can obtain from a forum.
There is a 100 things that can ruin an otherwise fun game you can find out just from reading. It all boils down to the individual and what he can and cannot live with. I have bought games in the past everybody said was great but i ended up disliking it. One such game was Civ 4. No amount of research would have helped me figure out that i wouldn't like the game. Research is not infallible but it's leagues better than going into something blindly. Even if it's only helpful 50% of the time
TBH i enjoy reading hate and bashing posts about DF as i payed 50$ for this game to find that its a pile of crap....
LOL Finally some honestly! Thank you!
That's exactly why I won't pay for a game until I've had a chance to try it. It's just not worth the risk anymore with so many games out there that I don't find worth playing.
I didnt enjoy the game and i never bashed it, but i find it very funny that people can be so blind to say its the greatest game they have played, and i think that is what starts allt he hate posts

Fair enough.
Personal attacks are never warranted. All I was getting at is that most of these threads that end in flame wars start out because 2 people have clashing opinions and then it escalates from there because both sides want to prove the other wrong. I assumed ( I need to stop doing that) that you wanted the haters to be quiet and leave the forum to the fans. That sparked me to type what I typed.
Lastly I really don't hate the game. I want it to get better because we need more games with the same ideas that Aventurine pitched to all of us. I just think some things about this game could be better implemented and better managed that's all. That does not mean that I am hating like Mr.Blood said earlier in the thread it just means I do not agree.

Actually, No. Darkfall has these forums. The only requirements are:
Must say "butthurt" in at least one thread a day.
Must insult anyone who disagrees. These insults can include any realm except race. Feel free to use homosexual slurs
Must know how to use the word "owned" (pwned, pwnzrd), also, when speaking aloud you must pronounce is po-uh-n-d

Take it as you will I suppose...
I'm all for differing opinions (As you can see, I don't agree with anyone). I think it's great that people hate the game, and want to tell us why they hate it. I just don't want them to expect me to hate it just becaue they do.
Constructive dialogue will go a lot further than hate filled rants.

In the end this forum is controlled by mmorpg.com
If you feel a post breaks a rule set forth by mmorpg.com then you are free to report it. If the moderators deem your report unwarranted and leave the post untouched... then you have to either accept it, or move onto some other site.
That is basically what it boils down to.
If the posts you don't like are deemed fine by the moderators... then there isn't really much you can do about it.
Oh I suppose you could make posts and threads that complain about people complaining... but some might see that as a bit odd.
I didnt enjoy the game and i never bashed it, but i find it very funny that people can be so blind to say its the greatest game they have played, and i think that is what starts allt he hate posts
But what if it IS the greatest game they've ever played? What if the features that made it into the game are exactly the things that they are looking for. Can't they be allowed that? Why the need to tear them down?
So not agreeing with them is tearing them down? I agree that if it's truly the best game to that person then they should have the right to express why they think so. At the same time though people that totally hate all facets of the game should have the right to voice their opinion as well. If you you want to strip the haters right away then you have to give up yours as well.
My objection was with "I find it very funny that people can be so blind to say its the greatest game they have played".
That's not an opinion, or a critique of the game. That's a personal attack against the person for their opinion. There's a big difference. Hate the game all you want, but there's no reason to hate others who don't agree with you.
You just did it again.
Why does criticism = Hate filled rants?
There have been lots of good criticism, but its always boiled down (by the fans) to "Hate" and "LOLCAREBEARNOOB" even if you are talking about something as non opinionated as "lag" or the UI or the illogical rule sets that have a precedence of not working, by the very games they are attempting to emulate.
Its the fans, and the irrational, and childish behavior that creates all this. Even Taco does it, so i guess it should be expected, as its the culture he created around the game, using 8 years of "elite" and exclusionary wordings.
How can we have constructive dialog, when even someone that claims to be as educated as yourself (going by the fact you have offered three people lessons on various topics) can not separate observations, and criticisms, from baseline bashing?
You take it to heart more than anyone else in this thread.

Stfu if you don't like Darkfall? Yes, we've heard that ever since they announced the beta.

But what if it IS the greatest game they've ever played? What if the features that made it into the game are exactly the things that they are looking for. Can't they be allowed that? Why the need to tear them down?

In the end this forum is controlled by mmorpg.com
If you feel a post breaks a rule set forth by mmorpg.com then you are free to report it. If the moderators deem your report unwarranted and leave the post untouched... then you have to either accept it, or move onto some other site.
That is basically what it boils down to.
If the posts you don't like are deemed fine by the moderators... then there isn't really much you can do about it.

Constructive dialogue will go a lot further than hate filled rants.
