I have been keeping up with what goes on here @ mmorpg for some time now. Today will be my first post... The last month or so I have read so many posts slamming so many games, One in-particular ( WOW ) ... I have read slams ranging from WoW numbers, PVE,PVP, End game content, etc etc etc.... I look at gaming today as evolution, So should you. Stop crying about back in the day !!!! News flash we ain't back in the day anymore. Does WoW have its days, Hell yes it does But so does every other game on the market today. I hear so many people that play wow slam wow and all I think is wow. If you don't like the heat then get you're ass out of the kitchen people. Fact, WoW is a monster... This game has set the bar so high for other developers out there that they are indeed going doo doo and its rolling down the leg. I don't think they know what to do.... Fact, WoW is the # 1 mmo... Need I say more ? Fact, Huggies are on sale today... Stop crying, It wont change a thing. Stop being a nerd about crap, You're only hurting yourself. I would guess the same peeps that want to flame this game out are logging into wow today to play for hours on end, Or to be just what they complain about, Complainers.. Hate it or love it, But you play it...
MdDonald's is number 1 also. Need I say more about your logic?

WoW is like BASIC (the programming lang), is for beguiners. As this, it could feel... lacking, for people with experience. WoW is popular because people learn with it. WoW has a type of quality, the one from good production values. But is lacking on other type of quality ... originality, freshness, complexitude.. etc.. IMHO, is probably on the list of the 10 better MMO's, but these that put it on the number #1 are embarrasing thenselves.

I am not so impressed by Wow myself but that is no reason to hate it. That it is number one doesn't really prove anything at all, otherwise you could say that madonna is better than Mozart because she sells more records.
Wow is far to easy for me to feel challenged from. That does not makes it a bad game or give me a reason to hate it of course, only a moron would reason so. But I don't really see Wows high bar either, it have stolen most of it's ideas from EQ and polished them up.
It is good but not a masterpiece.
The reason it is so polished is the same reason that Guildwars is so polished: Strain and Kaplan are programming geniuses. If they did LOTRO, EQ2 or Vanguard that game would have been the bestseller game instead, only reason GW don't have as many subs as Wow is because Strain didn't have enough cash when he quited from Wow and had to make the game on a very tight budget. It still sold a lot more copies than LOTRO and Eve however.
If Kaplan quits then Blizz next game will fail badly, they already had 2 of the best devs in the business and they wont find a third that easy (Kaplan was in Morhaimes EQ guild so they were very lucky to get him).
But as I said, no need to hate Wow for stuff like this.

Evolution is fine as long as you remember your roots. Without all those great games of the past, there would have been no inspiration for the games of the future. Many things have gotten better in recent MMOs, but some very important things have been forgotten, such as creating game mechanics that help build a strong community. News Flash: Loot rewards are not a good way to strengthen community, at least not the way they are being done nowadays in my opinion.
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.

Who says community is important? Not saying it isn't but prove it. Also... prove to me that the majority of MMOers aka the ones that are going to continue on, the ones that are going to guide the genre, essentially the only ones that matter to AAA hit games care at all about this stuff. Also prove it without ever referencing anyone or anything from this site because it has nothing to do with how the real population of MMOers see things. Ready GO!

only addressing the community part here.
it probably wouldn't be hard to find on google... but it's incredibly common knowledge that forced grouping, forces community, and people will play a game far after the fun goes out of it -- in order to continue to be a part of "their community" and to hang out/socialize with their online buds.
not touching on the rest of your post, past the first sentence; but, if you're (willfully?) ignorant of something that IS that common knowledge, i'm not sure where the rest of your post goes...

Well I don't play it and never have, I also don't think it's the number 1 MMORPG. But then again I suppose 8 million Chinamen can't be wrong, right? Which means rice and noodles are the number one food in the world, right? ...
need I say more?
Please don't. Unless you can tell us the source of your 8 million number, of course.
ah no, have played it, thought it was terrible and boring, no longer play it, and will never play it again. i believe it lacks soul, personality, challange, and find the artstyle to be pathetic. all my expeirence, and oblivously just opinion. and please, refrain from calling people haters, because they don't care for the mmo that appeals to the largest segment of the general masses, the darkfall players might try and recruite you.
You fail to see what target audience World of Warcraft was targeted to. WoW was not created for people like you who find pleasure in a very steep leveling curve. It was designed for people who have at the most 30-45 minutes a day to play. If you want a game that satisfies your hunger for a steep leveling curve then go look at Korean games like Lineage 2, RF Online, or even Final Fantasy Online. The vast majority of MMO's designed for american gamers will be very easy to play.

If we kill people to protect ourselves and this future, then what sort of future is it, and what will we have become? There is no future for those who have died. And what of those who did the killing? Is happiness to be found in a future that is grasped with blood stained hands? Is that the truth?"

My comment was supposed to mean that the comparison, regardless of who says it or how often, is stupid.

yes that is a good way to describe it,but there was also quite a large number of players playing MMO's before WOW copied EQ,so we did not need any repeat of EQ all over again.Changing the artwork does not change the game.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I've Played WoW for a long time. I don't dislike it, but it has never truly impressed me in any way except in the number of subscriptions it has. Having said that it is one of the most accessable games I have ever played. Really easy to get into, not the most detailed graphics but not ugly either. In all my time I've played it, it never crashed and I can count the number of serious bugs I came accross on one hand and they were all fixed on the next patch. People call it a grind but I've never come across a MMO where you didn't grind coins or levels or skills. Seriously, I don't know why it is hated as much as it or why it deserves the attention it gets. For me its just an MMO that is designed well but doesn't have any "wow" moments. (forgive the pun)
Clearly some people cannot understand why alot of people can't stand WoW. When you judge something you look at the fruits it bares. If a peach tree bares bad peaches why would you want to have anything to do with it? What this means is what fruits does WoW bare? Obviously fruits means the actions. Everyone wants to be like Michael Jordan if they love basketball, because clearly he is the all the greatest. Why? Because he involved his teamates, he understood the game to the core and everyone liked to play with him. How can we apply this to todays mmos? Well it seems as if most companies are trying to get wow's subscription base. And loook what happens to most of the mmos who try to take wow and are called a "WoW" copy. Like many has said, WoW has catered to the solo crowd and the gimmie now crowd. More than likely, mmo players before WoW doesn't want that in mmos and feels it takes away from the community which mmos are suppose to be about. Some mmo players want that kind of style for many different reasons. Just because McDonalds serves millions upon billions doesn't make the food good for you or it wont satisfy you fully.
I have to laugh so hard at this post.
I think you do not get what I was trying to say at all my friend....
So, I must..... MJ oMg evolution has given us lebron, Look at the stats my friend and please don't make me post.....
McDonalds, Ummmmm ok But I still love a bigmac...
WoW has catered to the give me crowd, But today its all about fast service and instant gratification. I don't think people want the 400 hour grind anymore to get crap

Before I edited my post I wrote "don't feed the troll" but I deleted it and gave you a post worthy of enough but I suppose I should of kept with what I wrote first. As for you, you proved that all you can do is slander and make fun, you can't even come back with an intelligent post. But I do see what you are saying and I apologize if I didn't "get" your post. But you are correct, that WoW caters to the give me now crowd. Good for you for comprehending something so small. Do you know why it caters to that crowd? Most of those player who are "gimmie nows" are players who have never played an mmo before WoW. Thats what I was trying to say in my op.

Erm..
Hater
Hat"er, n. One who hates.

Fact: No WoW-like game that has come out since WoW in North America has been succesfull.
Speculation: No WoW-like games will be succesful for the next 5 years - WoW has burned out the entire "theme park MMORPG" genre.
