TBH I'd like to place a great big order of: Until they announce beta it's none of our damn business.
I swear you people need to get a grip. BioWare is doing their job: Making a game. Their job is not to tell you how they're developing it or what features it will have at release when it's not even in beta yet beyond a general overview of what they'd like to deliver. They don't have to get into specifics and, to be honest, I'm kind of glad they're being a bit vague. If they give too many details all you nits will do is pick pick pick at them about what isn't in that they thought they might get in when it releases.
Normally I would agree with you .. however, once you OPEN a website with info and forums, the gloves are off.. If Bioware didn't want to discuss any issues or release any intell, they should of kept their mouth shut and not start a website..
They have stated multiple times that no info is going to be released on any content that isn't fully integrated into the game to prevent over hyping of features that may not make it in... as this has been the downfall of most recent mmo's, not the lack of good content, but the lack of content that players feel they were "promised" from the beginning... very smart approach in my opinion.
I think you are missing what the OP is talking about. I think he is wondering about the core of the game play. Is it like Guild Wars? Central zones where players meet up surrounded by instances. Is it like AoC where the world is zoned and travel is pretty much linear. How is combat...just basic combat. Is it like most MMORPG's click on target and spam hotkeys or is it like AoC, directional and you can do combo's or is it like some other games - click on target and then spam hotkeys in a certain order to build up enough power to do a finishing blow?
If there are zones and instances - how big are they? Compare them to an existing game? Is a zone in SW:ToR as big as say the Barrens in WOW or maybe a game zone like Field of the Dead in AoC or is a zone as big as a world in SWG?
How is character progression handled?
How is character customization done? Is there any? Is it like WoW or is it like CoH with its great character customization system?
Well I don't know about customization but the engine they are using allows for extreme degrees of customization.
What about space - will space combat be in "Star Wars: The Old Republic"? It is named Star Wars for a reason.
Again, not sure, but in one of the recent E3 interviews a Lucas representative said something to the effect of "It wouldn't be Star Wars without some form of involvement in space." Don't have a link but its one of the interviews in the TOR E3 thread.
Will there be raids?
Same inverview, they say raiding will be in game.
Will the best gear only come from raids?
Is this game going to require us to live in the game to compete against others?
Is leveling a grind?
Is there and endgame?
Just a hunch... but if there are raids and PvP I'd say yes.
Will there be housing?
Will there be guild system in place?
Guilds are in game, not sure about what they offer just yet.
Will we even need guilds?
These are just a few of the questions I am sure many people have - and I can come up with a lot more and none would hurt the game if BioWare answered them. Why these game companies even have NDA's anymore is beyond me. Just tell us about your game - only what you know is going to be in it and at least tell us how the game is going to play - just basic mechanics. They are not secret any more. I mean my god...tell me the true differences between LoTR online and WoW or WoW and EQ2 or EQ2 and EQ or EQ and Asheron's Call - pretty much nothing other than the game world and a few game components - like housing in some and not in others, zones versus no zones and what not - but all in all the all they are basically the same.
Just tell us about the core of the game BioWare...is that really to much to ask for? Just telling us that 75% of the game can be played solo and that it is completely story driven is not telling us anything really other than it sounds like KoToR with some online game elements - maybe just a central hub chat room where players can gather and do a few group missions on a server and the rest of the game is played on the client.
Nothing you do is going to be so ground breaking innovative that other game companies are going to jump right on it and start making games to be like yours. So spill the beans. Let us see this games basic core game play system.
The game is still in early development, you can't expect extreme amounts of information about it. People need to go do something else and be happy when some new info is released, but its still just a game, not a life-style change.
Who cares how it's desiged? Stop being rabid fans begging for an excuse to give these companies your money. Refuse to play any game without a free trial and see for yourself.

I have a website but visitors still don't know the activities of my daily life. I don't list the times I go to the bathroom, when I went to work, watched tv, played games, read a book, drove my car, had sex, worked out, etc.
Be happy they let you know that a game is in development and move on for a while.

You're assuming you'd get a month's entertainment out of it. And of course, tho we disagree, I consider buying a product based on a company's hype, without seeing it for yourself to be the more immature response. Its not a question of the amount, its a question of self respect. You'll understand when you're older.
I hope they do keep new exciting features a secret so other games don't steal them. In fact I have no interest in them, I prefer to wait to explore them. All I want to know are the very foundation basics of the gameplay. Instanced or not should be a pretty easy one to answer. Housing or not, crafting deep or not, that type of stuff.
It's WAY to early in development for them to even consider working on the crafting system or housing. Instanced, yes, the storyline is instanced. A recent interview mentioned fighting outside a Hutt palace in the same starting area as others. If you research you can find a lot of info you didn't know was out there.

Is it necessary to know about it before its released? No. Does it change anything if you know about it before release? No. These threads come off as whiny or demanding every time they are written. You are not owed anything and deserve nothing, is it so hard to just wait? Go get a life, that will surely take your mind off of things for a while.
Why do people say we arent owed anything or deserve anything from these game companies? These companies would not survive without us. We are what keep the hype going. We are a good 12 of their marketing target. They do owe us something, that is if they want to be sucessful. We add to their bottom line.

Lol, you know how you know when someone is wrong??? When they start bashing on their opposition for no reason. First off buddy, if you can't afford to occasionally throw away a bit of money on a whim, I'd take that to mean you aren't old enough to make enough money to do so. Sixty dollars is pocket change, and even if it wasn't the best game in the world, yes, I'd still find a way to get a month of entertainment of of it. You'll understand when you're older... lol. Say hello, To the things you've left behind. They are more a part of your life now that you can't touch them.
I bet its safe to say that it has got several of WoW's elements and more. (: So you shouldnt worry about it, cause I am sure its going to be a great game from just the info we have now.
Of course this game is going to have WOW type features , It wouldn't be a mmo if it didn't have them durrrrr. Anyways this game is going to be more like Guild Wars 2 then WOW I bet. Arching story per class, companion npcs, non raid content(so far).
I think it is due to them wanting to hype the one thing they believe is original about the game, the quest system that contains a bunch of words (or 'story' as they like to call it). From the E3 gameplay demo write-ups, the combat system is typical MMO combat, with better animations than most. It has a class/level based character progression system, like almost every other MMO. It seems they want to focus on building hype on the one thing they think is new to the MMO genre, even if they don't realize it really isn't new, but just expanding on what many other MMOs already have.
If you're making WoW with a Star Wars skin, and adding a heavy story based quest system, which you deem 'new' and 'revolutionary', you don't lead with the fact that you're making a WoW with a Star Wars skin MMO, you lead with the new and exciting thing.
not true, most people love WoW so being like WoW at least in some ways is a good thing. All the WoW haters on the forums complaining about the game... but that's because the majority of people are busy actually playing WoW.
Anyway I wouldn't call it WoW like, but it might not have anything that we havent seen before. That's not what's important though. It's doing what they do and doing it well. Just like WoW didn't do a lot of new stuff it just did all the old stuff well.
Welcome to following a Bioware game in production. Get used to it because this is what they do for all games they have developed. Unless they change their policies, you aren't going to get the infomation you are used to getting with other games. You'll only start getting information shortly, like a few months, before the game hits shelves.
That's Bioware. That's what they do and no amount of pleading or crying is going to change that. If you don't believe me, take some time and do some research on Dragon Age. They followed the same pattern with it, and it is their next release.
"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."

Making a WoW type MMO doesn't draw as much attention as doing something 'revolutionary'. I agree with your estimation of WoW, so I'm not complaining they are making a WoW type MMO, just explaining why they might be holding back on releasing more info about the game systems, beyond the quest system.
The mmorpg community is toxic. If a dev says we will have feature X and they then drop or change it they have to face the NERD RAGE! The nerd rage just so happens to become some odd crusade for some people and they then spend time going around forums trying to tell people why not to get the game.
People on a nerd rage crusade are bad for the game and the industry. So now we have a developer who isn't going to play that game. Good on them. I predict that this not handing out information early will enable them to make hard choices without massive public backlash and that will result in a better, more polished game. Of course, I am yet another nobody and my prediction is worth nothing at all
I want to know if I should be excited or if I should move on and give up on mmorpgs. I keep hearing mixed messages from Bioware from them saying it'll be heavily story driven like a single player game, which will mean it'll be heavily zoned and instanced. Then the next thing they say is having open worlds is very important for an mmorpg and it's like just frigging show me how the game is designed so I can make up my mind. If it's laid out like WoW with the instances built into the world naturally, then I'll be happy but if it's like Age of Conan, Guild Wars or EQ2 then I know to move on and not care. Other things too explaining how it'll be a signle player like game and every class will have their own story. Well will I be able to play with 4 of my friends in a group and progress through the game will them all? That seems like the Star Wars experience to me and if I can do that then great but if not then let me move on! Will I be able to switch from Jedi to Sith in the game like Anakin did to Vader?
Just tell us already and stop keeping things a secret cause thigns like how the world is designed can't change now!
Simply put developers have a thousand good ideas, but development time line grants only enough time for so many features at release. They don't want to make the mistake that other companies have made advertising the game has certain features at release when infact they don't . . . WAR & AoC.

my thoughts on this game is think oblivion or fallout 3 you have a main quest line for your char. Than you have all the open world and side quests to do. Plus there is going to be RvR pvp so woot what isn't to love.

Of course, I am yet another nobody and my prediction is worth nothing at all
Mostly because of people like you.
To keep from over promising.
