We're gamers.  It is our hobby.  So when a company announces a new games we're curious.   It would be nice if that company wasn't so tight lipped about the basic core of the game play mechanics.    I can tell you this from experince in these forums and playing these games since the mid 90's devulging the basic core game play mechanics never hurt any game.  What kills a game is when a game company releases a bug ridden game and an incomplete game - that is what kills a game.

Want a succesful game - launch a fun game that is pretty much polished and playable from the get go and provide great customer support and you are going to have a succesful game.   Wish me to name games that followed that business model and are considered succesful Compared to ones that didn't?

So BioWare really isn't going to hurt themselves by telling us about the core game play at all.   What will hurt them is if they launch a bug filled POS game and then provide little to no customer support.  That will hurt them.

And because they haven't kissed you behind with the information you are demanding that means the only things that must be wrong is the are building a pos game.

The game might not be out for a year or more. You don't need to have the information until the time comes where you have to make a commitment to purchase it.  That's it.  Personally, I am glad game companies are keeping things secret.

I was with you until you told him to 'get a life'. Unless the zombie apocalypse has begun without anyone notifying me, we're all blood-pumpers, here.

hmm lets see i bought mass effect 2 with no option for a free trial i bought games like zelda counter strike. bioshock nobody demanded a free trial for all those games why should they give you a free trial on an mmo. It is no different the 1 free month gameplay time with the purchase is plenty. Most single/player games i buy last me just a couple weeks  and cost me 60 dollars. But i get a month of play online with my purchase of an mmo. If I don't like it i uninstall and put it away.

I have never gotten this argument that all mmo's need ot give people a trial before they buy. Go tell that to the big games. Tell that to nintendo I won't buy mario without a free trial., I won't by zelda without a free trial. I won't by Halo odst with out a trail . Give it a break.

You know, that's exactly why I gave up on single player gaming. Gaming reviewers are complete hacks, and I have never read a review from any source that has accurately and completely  reported on the negatives of any given game. If I'm paying 6x the price of a movie ticket for a game, it damn well better give me at least 12 hours of playtime.

Same goes for MMOs. I've never accepted the idea of paying for a box. If I have to pay a monthly fee, I see no way of justifying paying 3x that on a boxed copy. Especially since I prefer digital distributions, no box, no reason to pay full retail price. I don't care who is making the game or what license it's based on. If I don't get a few days of playtime to decide if I'll be playing an MMO a month down the line, I'm not buying it. Period.

You lost me there.  Instancing in Age of Conan has been blown way out of proportion.  Oh well, I enjoy the game because it is fun, while you whine because you have a loading screen.

Wow, this thread illustrates how jaded the MMO community has become in recent years.

When Sigil and Funcom failed to implement promised features, you flamed them. When Bioware learned from those companies mistakes and remains tightlipped, you flame them.

I use Sigil and Funcom as examples because VG and AoC are perhaps the most hyped and disastrous launches I can think of. I remember people in my guild hailing VG as the second coming a good year before its release. While its arguably recovered since then, we all know the story of VG's early retail life.

The point is, you people don't need to hype up games so much. You don't need every detail of its gameplay while its still a work in project. Really, all you need to do is read up on the game a week before it launches to get a decent idea of where its at and whether or not you'll purchase it.

This game wouldn't have been announced so early in its development if disgruntled former employees of LA hadn't leaked it to the gaming press. For all you know Bioware may have planned to announce the game at E3; meanwhile a bunch of you are ready to start a mob and torch their building just because they didn't showcase a playable demo.

Bioware is only going to tell you what they're confident in releasing to the public; live with it. If you choose not to purchase TOR based on lack of information months before it'll even go into closed beta, then forget you.

Bioware didn't "learn" from those companies. This is how Bioware has done it for years and years. People suggesting otherwise haven't followed a Bioware game on Bioware's forums. If they did, they would know this is business as usual for them and, looking at how many games they have shipped, it's something that isn't likely going to change.
