Get used to it lack of keeping you awake is where this game soars, heck even in combat doing missions a person could fall asleep. I know PvP might require a bit of mental strain but over all people have to get used to fighting off sleep as they once again jump 10 jumps to pick up something and then back again. Well I guess on the upside if you have an active account you can sleep while a skill trains and not get ganked...LOL

Yeah, I don't know when that happened. I used to really enjoy EVE. I played for two years and the last 2 months before I cancelled my account, EVE was the best sleeping aid I've tried.
I should have kept playing just for that reason, but an over-the-counter sleep aid is cheaper.

funny story. Other day I was in my covops and jump bridged to my home system. see a Raven (blue to me) warp to station. However, my only guess this guy was AFK or something and the 'station dock' bug got him. He really didnt dock. Next thing you know a matar interceptor is trying to tackle.
I tried to hurry and dock and grab my Taranis to fight off the inty to protect my fellow friendly. A guess just the act of seeing a covops uncloak unnerved the matar inty tho and he split.
Finally the Raven pilot logs off.
Yeah dont go to sleep or go afk or whatever assuming your ship will dock please lol

I knew someone would post a response like this, you know to think that 0.0 is the only place the game has any fun is stupid to begin with. If the game was ment to be 0.0 why is there higher sec areas, this game should be fun and engaging, if your in high sec or not. Instead it is a sleeping aid to most who try it out. Seriously the only reason I stayed awake in this game half of the time is because I had people on teamspeak with me. Sure going to 0.0 can occasionally get your heart started, but once you are established and have a corp to back you up it becomes just as boring and annoying as high sec. Yea sure you don't jump 10 jumps to a trade hub, but ratting is just as annoying there as it is in high sec, oh except for now your fighting bigger ships but by that time your in a bigger ship to so it just scales up.
Now with that said my honest opinion is that EVE could be an even better game, simple things like a player not just being his ship (how long have we waited to be able to walk around a station). Get some better story lines and have them mean something for a change. I don't know how many times some polititions girlfriend or maid was kidnapped and I had to go save them. Add in real flight controls, don't have it where you just set your distance to circle someone, lets have a way to fly your ship for real, heck even if the capital ships were just point and click to go somewhere the smaller the ship the more responsive the controls and allow the use of a flight stick. At that point I think this game might get itself out of the rutt it is in, untill then if I ever need to sleep I will just fire this game up.
LOL, I knew this thread would draw all the EVE haters who point to it saying, see, see, EVE is so boring people fall asleep in it.
Hell, I've fallen asleep in far more action packed games than this one.
I recall one time in DAOC when leading a group as a Minstrel I deadsticked and ran the entire group (who were on /follow) right off a cliff and into a pack of tough NPC's....hilarity ensued.
Or the time in WOW when I was waiting to start an assault on Onyxia and suddenly woke up standing at the foot of the dragon...all by myself...my guild was not amused. (after they resurrected of course)
Nor were they amused when I fell asleep at the final boss in BWL for 15 minutes until they could wake me up. (I got a 1million DKP penalty for that one.)
Point is, most of us play MMORPG's far too late into the evening and EVE is no more boring than any other game in terms of game mechanics, just a matter of whether or not you enjoy it.
And most of the posters here decrying the game's combat mechanics really don't understand how interactive it really is...... (you don't just circle your opponent) and fail to understand how fun a good fleet ballte or chase across space can be. (I'll agree, gate camping is terribly boring, and I avoid it)

Better story lines...uh, ok but 'have them mean something'? Do you know any meaningfull PVE? I don't and doubt it exists.
You might haven't noticed but EVE is not an action game so no joystick, no space flight mechanics. If you implement this, you kill the great variety of e-war, gun, missiles and whole lot of mechanics that makes EVE so great combat system.
If you miss those things, try Jumpgate Evolution or Prophecy once their are released but please, stop changing the game to something you like without understanding why the things are the way they are.

LOL I do know meaningfull PVE, it does exist, PVE that makes you feel like your part of a larger world not some idiot running the same quests over and over again. In Asheron's Call quests were very well thought out, they were a mind bender some of them, and some even had to involve many groups of people to complete triggers and such. When you completed these quests people knew about it a world announcement was sent out for whoever killed Lady Aerifall, or The Olthoi Queen. Not to mention the great Crystal defense which wasn't a quest but instead a PVP guild that decided to protect a crystal and attempted to change the way the story evolved on there server. PVP and PVE can intermingle and it can be made to feel quite meaningful even if your eyes have being taped shut to the idea.
When it comes to the action part of your comment, that I am sorry to say is the point, the combat is nothing more then click one weapon or a group then wait till target is dead, move to next target. Most people don't even move there ships once they get into ships like the Raven, and I do call that boaring. EVE has a partially unique combat system, it is almost like a turn based combat at least that is about how fast it feels. You fire wait for recharge fire again, if you have to move then you move. There is not heart pounding battles in EVE at least none that I have being in, and yes I have being 0.0 with a guild searching for people or just gate camping.
As for the other games like Jumpgate Evolution and Prophecy I will probably try them as well. I was just trying to make a point that to appeal to a larger audiance and to make the game less of a sleeping pill that serious game changes need to take place IMO. I understand that some people think EVE is the Holy Grail of MMO's but personally I think it is a very nice game, and in no way am I saying that it doesn't deserve its recognition. I just think that it could be molded into something alot better.
As for the falling asleep in other MMO's yea i have done it to, WOW, DAOC, SWG, AC...etc, all from fatigue of playing to long and to late. The point is from the moment I log onto EVE I get this over whelming feeling that i need to sleep, the game just doesn't pull my attention anymore, for the first few months it did, then I quit and came back a year later to try again, same thing, then again a year later and lasted 4 months this time but the same thing happened. Progression in this game makes it stale to myself but don't mistake that for me being an EVE hater. I just want others to know what they are getting into, some people like this style of game but to myself people make it sound like this exciting action packed game where PVP means everything. In reality the game seems very stale I put it on par with the Sim City franchise for excitement.
Falling asleep while mining and then waking up to see your pod floating in space. And of course I forgot to buy insurance.
What, you mean you dont just re-spawn like every other mmo out there?... you actually lose all the money you spent on your stuff for that ship?...
That does suck.... oh wait, but if I were the person who found you... lol, I would think thats the most amazing thing about Eve. Which it is.
What sucks for you means its awesome for someone else. No doubt the minerals you were mining will get use to build a ship to make someone elses life a misery..
And most of the posters here decrying the game's mechanics really don't understand
Ya Think
It's strange when you realize someone just typed a wall of text and wasted about 15 min's of their life and mine because of assumptions that are totally off the mark, or based off a game that existed years ago (like the above comparisons between null and empire). To the OP, there are many corps that use Orca and gang skills to team mine. I think this decreases the time it takes to mine and increases income. Don't feel to bad tho, EVE can be a timesink and I'm not brave enough to post some of the stupid things I've done after setting at the Computer too long. I do have a special little place in the back of my heart where I place all the Dooh's and Damn's tho.
