For starters, i like EVE, so i did not fall asleep because it was boring..might be because i had a beer too much too late lol.
but i was in 0.0 in our station, and a few guys got killed in the next system, i so happened we had some newcomers to our
corp that had brougt their ships, so i decided to take the lead, and start a small gang to set things right...
the last thing i remember is rightclicking the gate while the new guys were highly doubtful of my skills, and i clicked jump while shouting: DONT WORRY BOUT SHIT, ILL KILL THOSE f****** JUST STAY CLOSE!!....
Next thing i remember is waking up in front of my pc while hearing ppl talk on vt, and i realise i went out stone cold..
gotta love this game for its epic scale idiocy ppl make, including me. but i guess EVE teaches you that way
Zantax I know what you're trying to say but really--- PVE is just so limited and untapped in MMO space.
For example- ever seen a 100 man PVE coop????
In EVE, we form hundreds of people in a fleet all the time. Ever seen 100+ people in warp in eVE at sametime? I have. It's awesome.
PVE << PVP in MMORPG space. Until the day I see an MMORPG have true, real PVE where I can impact the universe like we do in EVE I say all MMORPG pve is suck and largely untapped
Originally posted by zantax LOL I do know meaningfull PVE, it does exist, PVE that makes you feel like your part of a larger world not some idiot running the same quests over and over again. In Asheron's Call quests were very well thought out, they were a mind bender some of them, and some even had to involve many groups of people to complete triggers and such. When you completed these quests people knew about it a world announcement was sent out for whoever killed Lady Aerifall, or The Olthoi Queen. Not to mention the great Crystal defense which wasn't a quest but instead a PVP guild that decided to protect a crystal and attempted to change the way the story evolved on there server. PVP and PVE can intermingle and it can be made to feel quite meaningful even if your eyes have being taped shut to the idea.
When it comes to the action part of your comment, that I am sorry to say is the point, the combat is nothing more then click one weapon or a group then wait till target is dead, move to next target. Most people don't even move there ships once they get into ships like the Raven, and I do call that boaring. EVE has a partially unique combat system, it is almost like a turn based combat at least that is about how fast it feels. You fire wait for recharge fire again, if you have to move then you move. There is not heart pounding battles in EVE at least none that I have being in, and yes I have being 0.0 with a guild searching for people or just gate camping.
As for the other games like Jumpgate Evolution and Prophecy I will probably try them as well. I was just trying to make a point that to appeal to a larger audiance and to make the game less of a sleeping pill that serious game changes need to take place IMO. I understand that some people think EVE is the Holy Grail of MMO's but personally I think it is a very nice game, and in no way am I saying that it doesn't deserve its recognition. I just think that it could be molded into something alot better. As for the falling asleep in other MMO's yea i have done it to, WOW, DAOC, SWG, AC...etc, all from fatigue of playing to long and to late. The point is from the moment I log onto EVE I get this over whelming feeling that i need to sleep, the game just doesn't pull my attention anymore, for the first few months it did, then I quit and came back a year later to try again, same thing, then again a year later and lasted 4 months this time but the same thing happened. Progression in this game makes it stale to myself but don't mistake that for me being an EVE hater. I just want others to know what they are getting into, some people like this style of game but to myself people make it sound like this exciting action packed game where PVP means everything. In reality the game seems very stale I put it on par with the Sim City franchise for excitement.
Um...having world announcment about you finishing the quest is enough for you to become meaningfull?
I think I know where you are going. I can imagine a game driven by various events and ever changing PVE world - I happen to know this from MUDs. Still there is none(?) on the market.
Yes, people who do not move their Ravens are those who cry so much about Caldari being useless in PVP... EVE combat is tactical, depending on your fitting and taking the best advantage of it - flying it accordingly. It is the decisions you take that decides whether you win or lose the fight, not your manual player skills - sill there is big room for your player skills, especialy when flying smaller vessels. As I said, EVE combat is tactical and it's great.
EVE is not designed to provide you straight forwarded entertainment, it is up to you to find your way in wide amount of opportunities that are offered to you.

LOL
I love when people say Caldari are useless in PVP
I give those folks the following ships to chew on:
The Kitsune
The Rook
The Falcon
The Eagle
The HAM Drake (surprisingly good IF you fit it properly... 800dps & 71k EHP + a scram)
The Raven (don't believe me? Go look at Burn Eden's stats... Ravens aren't bad for PVP, they're just typically improperly used).
The Vulture
The Blaster Moa (yes, I said blasters... 500ish DPS, 40kehp and stupid resists = solid blaster boat @ 1500m/s + a scram)
The Crow <-- still one of the best interceptors in the game.
The Flycatcher <-- most under-rated interdictor in the game but with proper skills is almost as nasty as a Sabre.
Even the lowly Cormorant, when T2 fitted, can be quite an effective anti interceptor platform. Nothing like crushing inties at 80-90km range. Or sitting on a gate with a gank fitted rail Cormy with cal navy antimatter instapopping almost any frigate hull that is foolish enough to jump into system.
But hey, people can say Caldari suck at PVP all they like
