I think we're forgetting about the video and captures from when the game was still called rapture. Has that been announced to be fake or true yet? Becuase I remember seeing the Gria in the caps if my memory serves.

I didn't see any in the old video, but I do know that the "Rapture" demo was really just a tech demo for what the MMO would look like... that video is like 3 years old now :-( I bet a lot has changed since then.

And I think I remember SE saying something about using FFXI stuff for that trailer like the outfits people were wearing so you have to be careful what you pick out of that video!

Mainly I only liked viera for their classes in tactics advanced in 12 I did like Fran.  I believe if they do decide to add a new race that it must serve a purpose...or under the new system races may not be based on stats but rather abilities whether active or passive.  If they take that route they could bring in as many as they wanted.

The Feol Viera is a sub-race of the Viera, characterized by light blond hair and shorter ears than standard Viera. They are the descendants of the Aegyl chief Feolthanos who fell in love with a full-blood Viera. The Feol were from birth treated as exiles by their full blood kin, cast out of the Wood to take refuge at Roda Volcano, where none dare enter. Since they have no wings, Feolthanos left the airship Galbana and the Auracite in the hopes that one day they come to him. His inheritance was received by Mydia/Judge of Wings, who decimated all that remained of his progeny to ensure that her people would never learn the truth behind their patriarch.

    Maybe!?

I thought it was an Elvaan, but you could be right in any case that's a really cool story. I need to brush up on my FF lore me thinks. :P

Elvaan ears point backwards along the head, Taru ears stick out. Although that doesn't mean anything since canon doesn't matter >.>

It doesn't in XIV because the universe in FFXI and the universe in XIV are two completely seperate concepts. Entirely independent, so previous canon doesn't apply. They are just using similar art.

If they are two different universes then what's the point in having the same races, Hume, Galka, Taru, Mithra?

They wanted to give players a sense of familiarity with the races. They probably will have different names and story backgrounds, I'm pretty sure.

I think it would make sense to have Gria as a female only race to replace the Mithra which would give males a race and females a race although im sure ppl will then whine about not being able to be Male Gria.  If I had it my way i would put in moogles!
