yeah, very sad... I had hoped he would be the first to beat it as well. He was another Hero of my childhood, who also reclaimed that role later in life. Wow, I NEVER had thought he was that young. Sheese, not even 20 yrs older than me... whoa... Very sad...

I don't think there has been a portrayal since then, and yes, Dean Cain is horrible...

My g/f was just telling me this right before I saw this post. Sad sad sad. *sigh*

As an edit: I was really hoping he would make it. He was always such a beacon of hope to look up to.

We are running out of supermen...

The original superman shot himself in the shower. Now we lost christopher reeves.

All we have left are dean cain and that guy from smallville.

Wow...That really sucks. Not only of it being a rather short life, but the way in which died.

I really thought he was going to beat it. It seemed he had such tremendous faith that he was going to mentally overcome it.

Oh, and for on subject of whos going to be the next super-man, either when the next super-man movie is being made, the star in that. Or Tom Welling.

I have heard that there is a new Superman movie inthe works. With Jude Law as SuperMan...

Not so sure I like that choice. He never seemed like a really big guy to me, and I always picture SuperMan as a big dude, thanks to Reeve playing the part.

Jude Law is in that movie Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow if you do not know who he is... Click Here

I think Jude Law generally does good in movies, but I just can't imagine him as Superman. Well, I guess he can do that Superman curl thing with his hair, but beyond that...

    Too bad about Reeves.

  • FinweFinwe Member CommonPosts: 3,106

Jude Law? Geez...I think that the actor they got to play batman will be the right actor. But Jude Law for superman? Looks nothing like him. And isn't Jude Law british, and with that, a british accent?

I think that either getting Tom Welling to play as superman would be the right idea. Or even I heard Jim Caviezel offered to play as superman, which I think if he bulked up he'd have the right look.

    But c'mon, Jude Law?

Some of those Brits can do convincing American accents, but still.

He was deteriorating rapidly in the last year, few public appearances, and he looked brutal. Not a big suprise here, the prognosis is 1-2 years for that type of injury. He lived 9, probably because of his resources. I personally think he was acting out of self-preservation, certainly not altruism, but he has now left a legacy and a foundation which will help other people.

I know most of you will bitch about this one, but I happen to fully agree with Maddox here.

P.S - Read the entire article before you flame it, or you will just sound like an idiot.

  • EnigmaEnigma Member UncommonPosts: 11,384

    A. Maddox is an ass

    B. Maddox has some severe issues within himself

    C. I couldn't believe you posted that link in a thread that was paying respects to Christopher Reeve

    D. I think Im going to be the nicest response to the maddox bs link

    E. I read the whole link....Maddox is an ass...he's probably bitter because he cant hold down employment or wife left him...whatever the case, the guy's a loon

It is very sad news to hear that Christopher Reeves (Superman) has passed. Hopefully his Legacy will live on and others will fight just as he did.

    1. Maddox needs to go back to the nice little place with the white little cushioned walls. I read about half of it, then scanned the rest, that guy just needs serious mental help. The quintessence of the ranting of the bitter old man, trying to put dirt on peoples name to make his own life seem of some worth.

    2. Drakaeon, you're still around? Surprised you haven't been banned yet.

I think Maddox is just like any other troll. Just wants a response and the end justifies the means. Probably doesn't really believe in most of those opinions really. Then again, I could be wrong.

    A sad day, I suppose.

As far as the Maddox thing goes, it's questionably tacky for this thread, but in a way from my point of view of what that article was about, it's kind of appropriate as well.

How many thousands of people out there that struggle everyday with paralysis, yet aren't fortunate enough to have Reeves fame, or fortune. To be able to afford all the cutting edge treatment that Reeves had, etc.
Yet I don't see Barbara Walters interviewing them. John Kerry isn't up there on tv talking about how he's their friend. And none of us could give two shits if they live or die, unless they were someone we knew personally.

Not to belittle Reeves, or the progress he made, but if you're looking for Superman, or for some sort of hero, you needn't go farther than your local VA hospital. Find the guy that took some shrapnel in his spine fighting in some shithole thousands of miles away from home so we could all sit here and bicker about video games. Go find that guy, and shake his hand, cause that's your Superman.

That's being a tad bit hypocritical. Do all of you fight for every single cause, donate money to every charity?
No. Far from it. But if a loved one, or yourself fell to it, then you'd open your eyes and contribute. He may not have been superman, but he was human. He was a hero because he could have very easily turned bitter or hidden away from his life and the fact he had what he had, instead he did what he thought was right. He fought to bring better treatment and better funding. Sure there are plenty of heroes everywhere, but he had the capacity to do it on a large scale, and you can't belittle him for that. It would have been ten times easier for him to just shut up and throw money at it. But no, he chose to talk about it, raise awareness and helped out immensely. Is he any more a hero than the man in the hospital with no money, no, but he isn't less of one either.
