I love EA..  the way I love Darth Vader. Hahaa...  another studio that byte the dust.

But maybe is a good thing?  I suppose this mean the style of mmo represented in WAR has died, to fuel the development of TOR.

Or maybe this is temporal.  Or maybe the join of both groups could mean better things?.  IMHO  WAR was a really innovative game, with lots of very good ideas and implementations and art. Joining forces could produce better things here?

We need a game analist or something, to clarify if this is some horrible bad news  or very good news.

     Very interesting.

I'll be interested to see if they can revive WAR, it has a lot of potential.

I think its a great move by EA. Mark Jacobs has lost his vision that made DAoC a success. Hopefully with new management team, they can direct EA Mythic to make RvR fun again.

Sorry to see Mark Jacobs go.  He is one hell of a talent.  I'll miss him.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

Thats huge news.  I wonder if Mark Jacobs left on his own or was let go.

  • LocklainLocklain Member Posts: 2,154

With Mark Jacobs getting the boot I am interested to see what will become of Warhammer.  Perhaps it could be the next MMO joining the F2P item mall payment plan.

Probably let go, no one leaves a top gm/vp position 8).  Besides, they usually have a track record for doing this when things dont go their way.

This.  About time they kicked him to the curb after the debacle that is WAR.

ok, I admit, i'm biased and hate the game, while 300K people disagree with me.  Where's my DAOC2?

They should fire everyone that had any part in designing WAR, and fire Paul Barnett so they can rehire him just to fire him again. Tired of that guy always saying it's the players who are dumb and WAR is great, all while the numbers drop nonstop.

this just made tor so much worse.. might as well drop all interest in it..

I really hope that Mythic wont drag Bioware down with them.

  • ProfRedProfRed Member UncommonPosts: 3,495

I don't see how people are seeing this as good news.  Two studios who used to be innovative are being merged into one and if there is one thing EA does not promote it is innovation, creativity, or originality.  Get ready to see the KOTR/Mass Effect formula milked for all eternity.  All this says to me is that Mythic and Bioware are now a one headed monster being influenced by the suits at EA.  Both of these studios in their prime had a passion for the industry and role playing games in general.  EA does not.  EA is based on money and greed.  As soon as there is a formula that works the innovation and originality stops and the milking begins.

Sure they throw around famous names like they have the freedom they once did or the ability to make the choices they once made to make successful games, but that is just a facade, and as soon as something isn't as profitable as the suits want they will be axed just like Jacobs.  They are merely figureheads now.

You mean EA dragging Bioware down like it did with Mythic?

  • LobotomistLobotomist Member EpicPosts: 5,981

    Man...

Such actions were there obvious but feared consequences of EA rule.

Mark Jacobs was let go from Mythic - although Mythic claimed that EA have no decision making power over Mythic.

Well. Its clear now who is the boss.

Bioware are the new stars now. The new kings.

But as the saying goes :

King for a day fool for a life time.

What happened to Mark Jacobs, will happen to Ray Muzyka ... when EA deems SWTOR does not meet their expectations.

Did WAR turn out to be mediocre game because of Mythic or because EA involvement ?

We will never know for sure. But judging from experience , EA has driven many sucessful game sequels into utter blandness.

Ultimately again , i see Bioware as great victim. Its now clear that EA rules the house. Destroying studios as they always did.

And Bioware are next to face the axe

You are right I'm afraid.  Now I worry about BioWare and if SWtOR doesn't live up to expectations but is still successful, what will happen to BioWare?

This is when BioWare needs to start saving money to buy themselves out of thier merger with EA.

That last part will never happen.  The only way to get out from under the thumb of EA would be to leave the Bioware name and join up elsewhere as something else.

WAR was a huge disappointment for me. Maybe the Bioware folks can do something to improve the game.

In regards to the SWTOR comment, the Bioware folks are taking over and being given more power. If anything, this shows a high level of commitment and trust from EA in their work.

There are still things that EA can do to damage the game. Like a $60/€60 pricetag. And talk about item shops / horse armor. Both of these things would really open a wound on the game, and in some ways EA is too dumb to avoid these mistakes.

somehow i sense dejavu from AoC actually. (no offence towards the Conan, its not that bad game nowadays) But still, is this new trend of mmo-marketing these days? Put the man charge to pump some overhype for the game, after release when all hassle settle down you just fire him down and he will take all mess with him and company can wash it hands and start from the clear table. I mean...Wut?
