What you guys fail to understand is, that there was no merger. One suit from Bioware is adding Mythic to his plate to take care of. He will no longer have much of anything to do with Bioware's games, other than ask for advice for making Mythic better. Well that and he will continue on the usual Bioware suits golf outtings and trips abroad. Bioware's devs will not be merged with Mythics, and only MJ (for now) was let go from Mythic. In essense, the two companies will remain seperate. Hopefully the new common thread, will do a much better job of keeping Barnett away from the actual devs of both studios. Sanya would probably agree, that when Paul walks in, be prepared.
Waiting for- Tera, Jumpgate Evo, WH40K, WWE, WOD, TSW -- -- "Hey, if Activision liked it, then they should have put a ring on it," Double Fine President Tim Schafer said. "Oh great, now Beyonce is going to sue me too."
What you guys fail to realizse is that John Riccachello (sp?) the CEO? (prez?) of EA used to be in charge of BioWare Pandemic. Since he was hired on a couple years ago he has turned the corporation around and allowed a lot more INNOVATION to take place. On top of that he brought BioWare into EA and basically has made them untouchable within the company.
SWTOR has, most likely, over a 100 million dollar budget and yes, if it fails it will hurt BioWare. But with the Mass Effect series (best rpg in decades IMO) pulling in the numbers it will with 2 and 3 I don't think they will even sweat it. Only thing that might happen is BioWare Austin will close (mmo division). By the way the Mass Effect devs have nothing to do with SW:TOR.
Also EA is not the evil company it used to be. They are actually the good guys now. You should hate Activision and Ubisoft instead. Don't believe me? Maybe you should visit Neogaf and check it out. There are much better things than MMOs.

Probably let go, no one leaves a top gm/vp position 8). Besides, they usually have a track record for doing this when things dont go their way.
I am pretty sertain too.
Let's face it. WAR failed.
And especially when it comes to Europe (wich has by far the largest Warhammer fanbase of the world) it failed misserably.
As Mark was following his dick (seduced by the hot chick of GOA) instead of his brains and went with GOA again for Europe, while the ENTIRE European fanbase litterly begged Mythic to NOT go with GOA since the announcement.
Mark ignored it all and now GOA has run WAR completely into the ground here in Europe (as expected).
And seeing player reports. WAR isn't doing all that better in the US either.
No one believes the 300k subscribers mark in the last report. As it probably contains both registered users (from trials and free 30 days of box) and actual subscribers. Making the actual subscription numbers a hell lot lower.

I do hate Ubisoft, but why should I hate Activision Blizzard?
because of how they treat their partners.
lets look at id software for example. id's games BUILT activision. i mean this is the company that invented the first person shooter for gods sakes. their titles have always been great. but because they were an external partner they were always treated like a second class citizen.
hence when the blizzard buyout happened, id took the opportunity to walk away.
on an interesting note, id merged with bethesda today.

Lol ID games built activision LOL. It was a 2 way partnership without Activision ID would be nothing probably still trying to get their games out. Activison were big players in the games and media industry long before anyone even thought of the game studio ID.
Brad McQuaid Gaute Godager Mark Jacobs I'm sensing a pattern here
"You know, as much as I hate having to carefully craft (AKA, lie through my teeth) an answer to "What was Vanguard's biggest failing?" in job interviews, I realized after reading that rather disappointing article how proud I am of it.
Know why? Because I can honestly say with 100% validity: I'm a big reason for Vanguard's failure. Not Brad Mcquaid - not Microsoft. Me. And Guess what? I'm really kind of proud of it.
Brad Mcquaid didn't do shit. (News Flash?) He's had an opiate addiction for years now, which only got progressively worse as the project failed. His cumulative face time with sigil designers in the most crucial final years of development? Approx: 15 minutes. And some of the time was spent begging for legitimately acquired narcotics (Or in times of desperation, jacking them from people's desk)."
Once again EA the destroyer of game companies rears its ugly head....*sigh* When will companies learn to stay away from them.
Sad days.
Hard to stay away from money though and EA has way too much of it.
Now with Valve's L4D2 debacle and this the only decent companies left are a bunch of Japanese ones, a few indie devs, and Blizzard.
You are quite silly if you think Blizzard is a decent company. They are slowly turning into another EA/Frankenstein. They have their own way of destroying games.
All I've got to say is HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
If you look at my posts on MMORPG I've been saying it all along that the axe would fall on Mythic and it's dev's, CEO's....WAR was from the start a disaster. First Brad Mcquaid now Mark Jacobs, its good to see that CEO's of these faltering MMO's are being held acccountable...and yes read all you want into it...he was FIRED, FIRED, FIRED......
Sad for Mark Jacobs, but laughing at EA. They again exhibit their touch of lead to the industry. Maybe the CEO of EA should look inwards a bit, he most certainly never uses a mirror any more.
I really hate EA, they are no good for the industry.
We can hate EA for various reasons.
But what happened here, happens in EVERY other bussiness. Especially when you are registed on the stock exchange.
As CEO you have to meet sertain expectations and milestones. Failure to do so means EXIT! Simple as that. And that's what happened here.
Everyone that is shocked and suprised right now, really needs to deepen themselves into how bussinesses work.
And ironically. Lets not forget that Mark Jacobs himself had set unrealistic and very high expectations himself from the beginning.
He always bragged that he saw Warhammer Online reach 1 million subscribers and that when the subscriber number went under the 400.000 mark he would see it as a failure! Because of the amount of money that went into development of WAR.
Subscription numbers going below the 400.000 mark is exactly what happened. So do the math yourself!

You mean ActivisionBlizzard, makers of 4 Guitar Hero games in 1 year, a ruined Tony Hawk franchise, so many Call of Dutys (which only some of them are good and I prefer battlefield or tf2 anyways) they had to split the franchise? The company that wants you to spend $500 on periphials in the next gen? The company that dropped Brutal Legend due to it not being a title they can put yearly editions and now trying to sue EA after they picked it up and it turning into a game that has a lot of hype going for it now? Yeah Blizzard is in bed with some really stand up guys.

This just proves that EA considered WAR to be a failure.
I think its a great move by EA. Mark Jacobs has lost his vision that made DAoC a success. Hopefully with new management team, they can direct EA Mythic to make RvR fun again.
I'm not sure he ever had that vision. DAoC was crap after ToA rolled out. It'd be a shame for BioWare to lose its name, though. I think what that studio has done has earned it the right to keep their name.

Activision Blizzard isn't Blizzard. In 2008 Activision merged with Vivendi to become Activsion Blizzard. Since, Blizzard was Vivendi's game developing arm. Activision Blizzard is still headed by Activision's former CEO not a Blizzard employee. What exactly do you think Blizzard did with Guitar Hero and Called of Duty(which all of them are awesome, btw). Blizzard has nothing to do with those franchises. Its a division of Activision Blizzard just like NBC is a division of GE.
As long as they make good games - its all that matters.
Regardless of "EA" hovering over them, a much larger purse string is a very good thing for good companies like Bioware & Mythic to have and the combination of the two should bring about powerful titles (we can hope). Just keep EA Sports far, far away from them & we can all rejoice...
