Why isn't there more people playing this game???

socrates656socrates656 Member Posts: 142

Been playing mmo's for 10 years. Played wow for 4 1/2 years. Quit wow because the game is retarded now

Everquest  2 is 10x better then it was before. Why are not more people playing this game? This game is so much better then World of Warcraft in almost every single way.

- More things too do in Eq2 then wow, when you play eq2 you will always have somthing too do. You dont just to have to quest and lvl up all the time.

- Better crafting system

- Better character creation

- Better class system

- Better gameplay

- Better questing system

- Better achievments system

- Player Housing

- More game lore

- Books that you can actually learn stuff about and get special attacks when completing the quests they you get from the books

- Better achievments system then wow, more indepth

- Better talent tree's

I could list many more things. So my question is... what the hell is wrong with gamers now a days? Why do more people play wow? what the hell is wrong with gamers? do they like to play shitty games or what?

What is wrong with gamers nowadays? Why do they throw out their personal opinion as absolute fact and then insult everyone else and every other game than the one they're playing, and claim both to be inferior?

Everything you stated is opinion, and those that aren't playing EQ2 obviously don't agree with you. EQ2 has its population, and they're enjoying it. WoW has its population, and they're enjoying it.

In my opinion, I believe EQ2's combat system to be too limited in movement, and it's just not smooth and fun. So gameplay is out for me. Achievements just aren't THAT major a selling point, even if it is better than other games versions, both games have a large amount of lore that the individual player must decide for themselves which they prefer. Um... the class system I don't really enjoy that much, because they have a lot of classes, but if you're playing one type of character, then all classes of that type pretty much feel the same, at least for the first little while. Questing is opinion, and I personally find they're roughly about equal... until WoW gets into Northrend, at which point it's definitely more varied and fun.

I won't argue the crafting or player housing, since I didn't try crafting much, and player housing is obviously a winner for them, since WoW doesn't have it. Character creation wins here as well. However once you get the armor on, you really don't look much different than each other anyway, aside from height and stuff. Though I assume you can turn off helmets and stuff.

Item shops, adventure packs $5 each in a subcription based game. In World of Warcraft those "adventure packs" are called content patches which are included in the subscription price you pay. Why deal with the money grubbing when there are other MMOs out there that give you all of the game for your subscription fee and expansion fees?

The reason people didn't flock to EQ 2 is a lot of people had the experience of dealing with Sony in Everquest, SWG, and other games already. There isn't a lot of people that look favorably towards SOE.

I enjoyed EQ2. I left because the class I enjoyed the most, the Troubador,  felt like the devs made it into a red headed step child. I don't know if it is still that way, but I'm too wrapped up in AoC to invest in EQ2 at the moment.

WOW is the perfect PVE mmo. It is player friendly, you have fast levels and all your friends play it.

EQ=WOW=EQ2, so why not play the one your friends play.  This is also the reason why AOC, Lotr, War, Aion and the rest of the clones fails.

Well EQ2 is a great game, nowadays. I have only played it since summer 2006, and it has certainly improved a lot.

As previously posted, the launch was horrible, it required an very high end computer to play in the beginning.

And Wow managed to grab the big audience with a much better product when EQ2 was weak.  That was a long time ago now and EQ2 has steadily improved and today it is in my opinion the one of the best MMOs on the market, it has several strung features, it is biggger than most MMO in size of landmass and number of quests. So why is there not more subscribers? Well it is still SoEs biggest game after Freerealms, you see new people as the word of mouth is a strong marketing force, in spring 2007 you saw several new people from WoW on the AB server. But it is a mature game where few new people start and SoE does not market it.

But if you are looking for a good game you should try it, is it without issues, no certainly not but what game is?  If you are 2-3 friends looking for a new game it is something you must try if you have not tested it before.

a lot of people have grown bored of the game over the years.  Also the low end content is a little...stale and does not really encourage people to roll up new characters.  Endgame is sweet though.

I love EQII but I left because I felt I would never catch up. My play schedule plus SOE's release schedule means I'll never make it to the top, or at least makes it feel that way.

I'm not sure about the low end content, at least not the first 20 levels. Kunark made a good evil starting zone and I'm sure Odus will do the same for the good side. Past 20 though and it's straight to BBM every single stinking 'toon.

Come back in 4 1/2 years after playing EQ2 and see if you still feel the same way.

There are many reason people don't play this game, but you wouldn't be familiar with them, because you were playing another game.

I really liked EQ II   expecually the crafting part .  But I was there at the beginning and left because of a lot of the problems they had early on.   Why dont I go back ?  ive tried it again a year or so ago, but there are so many levels and hardly anyone around in the low zones i was in that i got tired of trying to do things by myself and feeling that i wasnt catching up to anyone soon.

I believe Gajari's response is indicative to the current player mindset (NewGen Players). This is not to take a shot at Gajari, but simply to illustrate what prospective players are looking for. As an 'old school' player (EQ) Lore/Questing is important to me and not so much custimazation, using those as examples and a sense of comparison. Trade Skills and Crafting are also high on the list of elements that I enjoy about MMO's or Everquest/EQII respectively.

With EQ there just aren't any new demographic of players. I wouldn't imagine there are many people going to Best Buy, EBGames or other Gaming Boutiques that are going to find EQ or EQII in the line of sight self compared to WoW, LoTRO or Warhammer. You're sometimes hard pressed to even find EQ/EQII on a gaming shelf, particularly at Best Buy.

When SOE offered the Living Legacy account last year (June) I returned and was amazed at the changes (EQII). So like Socrates I was wondering why more people weren't playing. Gajari is correct, EQII had a terrible launch and all the 'restrictions' even for an old timer like me was just to invasive. I understand they wanted to take the 'most annoying' elements that people complained about for years in EQ and insure that they weren't going to be a problem in EQII, however the 'restrictions' just made the game feel WAY to micromanaged.

The 'new' EQII is an amazing game, but sadly the NewGen players aren't going to want the layers of game design that make EQ and EQII the games they are. My only beef with EQII is that they left the 'combat speed' in the game. As a former Druid in EQ this 'combat speed' feels like someone putting the Brakes on my mobility.

Listen to yourself.  You played WOW for 4.5 years, and now you call it a bad game and hate it.

I gave after playing for 18 months for the same reason you did, it wasn't what I was looking  for in a game, but just because we don't care for it doesn't mean its crap.

Where were you 4.5 years ago when EQ 2 launched? Same place as everyone else, playing WOW.

Now its too late, MMO's almost always bleed subs from the first few months after launch and almost never reach the heights of their first year except in the case of WOW and EVE.

Doesn't matter how good EQ2 is now, people are waiting for the next great thing, which is probably AION this year.

I think this may have the biggest reason of all to be honest.  I agree EQ2 is amazing now, but people don't want to start playing an mmo after it's been out for 5 years, they feel they already missed too much.  Obviously not every player is like that, but most.  With Aion coming up and the insane amount of quality mmo's in production, most people are just looking forward I think.

I think you are incorrect here with this generalization.  Warcraft is still on the top ten selling software list for almost 5 years running, so new people are still joining that game which is the same age as eq2.  I suspect we will see more games in the future that follow this type of trend.  Maybe not to the same degree, but quality will stand out and word of mouth will attract new players despite a games age.

EQ2 did not really have either of those two things for many of its early years.  The game can offer a terrible first impression on a new player with performance, clunky ui, ugly default graphics, the worst downloader in the industry, etc.  It is a pretty tall hurdle for many players.  Fixable yes, but that is the first impression the game presents.  Word of mouth hasn't been great either as soe was in a mode of constantly changing the direction of the game between patches and expansions in an attempt to find a larger market.  I think this has alienated more players than it has gained overall.

I don't see Aion as a replacement for EQ2.  Aion is a PvP oriented game not a PvE oriented game like eq2.  For me I prefer PvE so Aion doesn't offer anything.  Also Aion from playing the beta seems to be a rather simple game.  Very linear, only two races, only two starting areas, quests are rather plain, go here kill x, etc.  There are two things about Aion that are very nice.  The graphics are excellent, and flying is very cool.  Equipment customization is nice also.

EQ2, LoTR, Vanguard, and Wow (to a lessor degree) are the only games that offer PvE oriented gameplay now and in the near future.

I think what you are fearing is pretty common for any game.   I've thought about giving LoTR another try but the thought that the main story questline is heavily group oriented and that the pop is gonna all be top heavy gives me pause since until I get into the higher levels the game is going to be a lot of work...

Of all the games out today this one area is most the exception in eq2.  EQ2 has one brilliant feature that really changes things and that is the ability for a high lvl person to mentor a low level person.  This means if you are lvl 20 and have a quest to do something like stormhold dungeon and need a group you can look for people you level (like most games this will be tough) but you can also add anyone higher level and they can mentor down to your level.  Mentoring gives you bonus xp too.  For the high lvl person it gives a chance to do low level content and quests they might have missed.  It also gives them AA point experience which is needed by all high lvl players.

This does mean that you have to ask for people to join.  You want to ask in 1-9 global chat.  I've joined many lower level groups where there is one low level person and everyone else is higher level.

This single feature in my opinion is the best feature in eq2 and it didn't even make your list :P

I just couldn't stand the graphics in EQ2.

Even completely maxed out, it ws pretty and full of nice pixels but it just didn't have any feeling or style.

Too realistic, or trying to be too realistic, and ended up just looking kind of detached...

It's like the characters are just thrown on top of the world like a fridge magnet rather then actually being a part of the world. Just feels... out of place. Only way I can describe it.

Yeah that and all the "being so far behind" and empty early game etc.

I played EQ2 for a solid year after launch and had a ball.  Eventually things got kinda stale and I went to WoW.  After several years of wow and some dabbling in LOTRO, I decided to give EQ2 another chance last fall.  It was great seeing all the old places again, enjoying the sounds of chests dropping and decorating my house.  But as others have said, the game population is top heavy.  And the lowbie zones and instances are barren.  It's a shame really especially considering how busy everything was when I played in the beginning.

A good time for new players to come into the game esp if they want to see more people in the lower end zones will probably be in february when GU55 comes out.  This update is going to include a new starting city Halas and new starting area.  I'm guessing when this happens there will be some surge of people starting in the new area.

    4) The game is very top heavy with a very lonely journey and you miss a ton of content that people no longer run

These are just a few. Its a shame really because it is a great game but hampered by some handicaps thats hard for a new player to overlook

^ That's about right.  At launch, EQ2 failed to attract the EQ1 fanbase.  Whenever you make a sequel of something that doesn't cater to the loyal playerbase, you needed to reach out to new fans.  Unfortunately for EQ2, WoW was launched just 1 month after it, and new fans went to WoW instead of EQ2.   Thus I agree with the list, EQ2 had a bad launch, did not attract loyal fanbase from EQ1, and at the same time lost out on the deal with getting new players since WoW stole them all.

SOE tried to cater to both EQ1 fanbase and new player fanbase, but when they saw they failed on both, they started changing EQ2 to be more like WoW.  This took them almost 2 years of changing and revamping the game.  This paid off because as WoW players get tired of the game, they reach out to other games like it.  But the problems that happened in the first 2 years really hindered the growth of EQ2.

It's a pretty good game now, but I still prefer EQ1's gameplay and feel personally.  You know EQ1 has 10 year history behind it, so people can get pulled back to the game due to nostalgia and character attachment.  That's why even after so many years, people still go back to EQ1 every once in awhile.  It has a continuous flow of players that come & go.  EQ2 is getting up there in age, it has its own fabase support, but it's still building it.  Time will tell how it turns out.  I would argue with new games coming out and all, it hurts EQ2 more than it does EQ1, because newer games are made like EQ2/WoW.

From my friends who played that their first mmo was WoW they say the combat is too slow and clunky, the PVP is crap and the servers are dead.
