1. If you like raiding endlessly vs mobs... then play WoW.
2. If you like Open World PvP in a game that can handle 300+ people fighting then play Aion.
Some people get better FPS and performance in Aion than they do in WoW. The linear path of quests and such in the beginning can be daunting at times, but it's perfect to bring in new players to an MMO.
Also the reason I could never get into WoW was because once you used a skill, every skill would have a global cooldown. So say I used Shadow Word: Pain, which is instant cast, I'd have to wait a cooldown timer to use any other skill. In Aion, once you complete a skill, you can start the next one. This is probably the reason I stuck with Lineage 2 over WoW as well. Global Cooldown's suck!
My opinion on this topic has been touched on in this thread. I've also stated it on other threads. I'm gonna give it again here.
Aion does not offer anything innovative or new. With the possible exception of flying.
What Aion DOES do is rehash all the previous mmo's you've played, and presumably loved, and does it really really(add a few reallys) well.
So, If you enjoyed mmo's like eq, eqII, acII, swg, lotr, war, and aoc, you will most probably like and appreciate Aion.
If, however, you are looking for something new and innovative, you will most likely be dissapointed with Aion.
I have enjoyed playing the game so far, 20 chanter. If you're a fan of anime, like me, you will have a greater chance of enjoyment.
Please proceed to the next post. ty.
See? Someone who actually likes the game but UNDERSTANDS and ACCEPTS it could possibly not be for everyone and ISN'T all that innovative.
The thing is most people who don't like AION or just aren't enjoying it AREN'T saying it's an awful game, they're saying "meh, not for me...was hoping for something else". But of course, rabid fankids have to freak out like every negative review is some personal attack against AION rather than just an opinion that differs from theirs.
The only real issue is the fact that those games listed, "eq, eqII, acII, swg, lotr, war, and aoc", are so different that his post loses creditability in my eyes.
Maybe his point was its a good game like many western mmos. but grouping eq, swg, war, aoc, and ac2 is a joke no game is like those because those games are not similar. (some of them maybe but most of them are rather different from each other).
This makes me think in my little dumb dumb head, that is B.S. because it cannot be true. If my little dumb dumb head can see this obvious fallacious, misleading, or illogical statement why can't yours.

Unless they figure out a way to put people in the game this will never happen with any mmorpg.
You are kind of takeing my quote out of context. I agree with what you are saying, basically. But I am defending Aion in general by saying it does the mmo thing we all love very well.
In other words, it's a shining example of your tried and true mmo.
Now that I think about it though. Doesn't the Never Winter Nights series allow you to have an active player in the role of a dungeon master, in game? That may(may i said) be a feature that a future mmo tries to put in.

I understand what you were saying, I just see many of the haters of Aion post this same thing, they expect FF and SWTOR to be so revolutionary when in reality they will be just like every other mmorpg that has come before.

Ouch. I'm a lil' hurt.
Well, my point WAS that I consider Aion to be another solid mmo like the ones I listed. However, since you take issue with those games being SO, so different from each other, I'll address your point.
I would argue that all these games, atleast most of them, have way, WAY more in common than they do not. Their differences are nuances within the mmo genre. Some are more theme park, others more sand box. Some have pvp, and others don't(this being the biggest difference that I can see). Some have your typical Tolkien cast of characters, some have the conan cast, another the swg cast of characters. Some have basic housing, others have whole player created cities, others just npc cities.
It is the characteristics that they share that lump them into the mmo genre, not their differences. Basically you build up a character through combat, crafting and adventuring. There are combat combos, spells, special moves, whatever you want to call them. You can build a factory, or a magic sword of (insert strange unpronouncible word), but either way it's crafting. You can travel from one side of the galaxy to another, or from one side of middle earth to another......
Unless they figure out a way to put people in the game this will never happen with any mmorpg.

I think FFIX was pretty innovative with the job system. Where one toon could be any of the classes, or all. Your primary class could be maxed and your secondary class would be at 1/2 max. You can swich from class to class pretty easily. I hope the new FF has this, if it does, sign me up.
