OP, I''m having a hard time visualizing what you were expecting the first 6 levels? Sounds like pretty standard fare designed to familiarize the new player with the controls and the environment. From what I understand, this game is all about its RVR style PVP which doesn't really get going to levels 20-25. Might want to try and get to that level before passing judgement on the entire game.
No matter what you think is standard there is one game that did, and still does it differently, Warhammer Online, ya, hate on it bash it and spit on it, fact remains that you can start RvR, and general intresting PvE from the word go. You get XP for everything, including the RvR, hell you can level by just doing RvR, the quests are not just gather, or kill quests either, and if people would read themt ehy would know the game has tons of potential.
It will get better yes, WAR has its issues but all MMOs do, and for a young one like WAR it will only get better, people just need to have patience instead of hopping to the next best thing to realize it is just the same old crap. WAR is the only game recently I felt did it different from level 1 all the way to 40. It is an enjoyable ride.

Enjoyable as far as it goes. Nice thing about War is once you play the trial youve played the game.I know, i know i didnt believe it either so i bought the game and cancelled after three weeks. Level 1 and level 20 was the same thing. Grinding for xp in quests in most MMO's or grinding pvp scenarios in War, i choose the quest and storyline grind.
I have told my friends and people on the net that have asked me about the game that I'm reserving judgement until I can reach a decent level and experience the game in its totality. And I think that would be the best thing that anyone could do with any game. Right now I'm also only level 6, but I've played a total of maybe 2.5 hours (split between 2 characters), so who am I to say that this is no good?
On a side note, I do like how you level slightly slower than in most MMOs. It gives you a chance to experience the area you're in before being whisked off to the next group of level appropriate mobs. One of the most annoying things about a certain blue chip MMO *coughcoughwowcough* is that fact that every step or move you take in the beginning has you exploding in a leveltastic burst of light. Never felt like I was earning levels, just being spoonfed them.
This game is officially called iYawn - what a snoozefest. I got to level 6 last night. Kill 5 of these, collect 6 sticky mushrooms, run to this guy a few minutes away and repeat. 50 levels of this will kill me! Where's the hook?
Yep level 6 makes you qualified to judge the entire game.
Hahaha....
I can not judge, but honesty... NOTHING I have seen so far really felt like "wow this is great". And yes, IMVPO, is DOES make him qualified. A game must be fun right away, not *sometimes in the far future*.
Honestly, I haven't played an MMO where I was amazed and instantly having fun in the first few levels (besides my first, FFXI). It usually takes me about 10-20 levels to know whether I like it. I need to have a decent amount of skills and understanding of how the game's world works before I choose not to play. The only time I will dismiss a MMO within minutes or a few levels is, if I can't stand the controls. WoW spoiled me with the smooth gameplay. I can't deal with clunky controls, it drives me crazy.
Also, OP... What did you expect from a MMO? Have we gotten any better quests recently? Not at all. At least Aion has some cut scenes, most MMOs don't even do that. I'm not expecting much from Aion's gameplay... Shit, after playing WAR since release, I don't expect much from any MMO. All I am hoping for is fun pvp and little to no bugs.
I don't look forward to grinding out quests and exp, once again; but if endgame pvp is fun, it will be worth it for me. I'm sure I will find things to hate about Aion, it's inevitable. I just wouldn't dismiss the whole game from experiencing 6 levels. There are always good and bad aspects of a game, but it's all about how well it all comes together. I just hope the pros outweigh the cons this time.
I wish you people would actually make it to at least level 12 before coming on here and giving half baked "reviews / impressions". By level 12 you've had 2 levels to play your profession, you've gotten out of the "newbie" area, you've had a chance to fly a bit, and you've gotten to see a major city and all it has to offer.
But then you are told to get to level 15 and then 20 and then 25. And then people say "You are not max level" and it goes on and on.
QFT
Level 6 or level 20, its all the same gameplay. Actually level 1-10 are fun because it moves fast. After that its just the same thing but ever slower. So I guess this is a 'max-level' game where you just pay the subscription fees for a few months, waste your life auto attacking small furry animals, and then they let you play the PvP aspect of the game. You know, if you buy any FPS game, you get to the PvP from day one...
It looks like people have just gotten burnt out of doing quests, 1 year ago everything was fine and spectacular when they were doing exactly the same thing in AoC, but one year later, all of the sudden, quests are outdated...go figure.
ok at lvl 9 i got my destiny quest and all of the sudden the game was fun
At lvl 10 having wings changes gameplay a lot though their is a 1 minute counter + walls in the air so u cant really fly anywhere u want , thats kind of a big disappointment
Whether you agree with it or not, the OP's opinion is extremely valid. If he is not having fun . . he's not having fun! There's no sense saying "It gets better at level 10 . . or level 25 " because it's HIS money, and if he isn't having fun, why in the world would he pay for the game? The last I checked Levels 1-6 are the first thing you see in the game . . .
My opinion difffers somewhat from the OP's. The game is fun, but there is just too much running around for my tastes. I can see his point . . as around levels 5 and 6 you are constantly back-tracking and running fairly long distances to talk to people. This, my friends, is not my idea of a good time.
Overall, the game looks promising. It does seem to be extremely polished . . and other than the lag spikes from time to time . . the game runs smooth as silk for me.
The OP is right!! Yeap, I said it, he's right. the game is a snooze fest, until level 10 anyway. Then it picks up a bit. I've heard from somewhat reliable sources it picks up yet again at level 25.
wow has 11 milion subs, i wonder how many trolls that is.
11.6 million since E3 actually ))
That's indeed the core problem with any other new fantasy mmorpg with standard experience lvl's and gear.
That's the playing of the market.
No one can out-Wow ...Wow.
That's the reason why I as a WOW fan like the people to play all those latest mmorpg's.
Free publicity for Wow .... and Blizzard doesn't even need to pay for it. ))
11.6 million trolls? Insecure about their game losing subs to Aion. Its gonna happen as its a new game and while it is another MMO its very fresh in its style and art. WOW is tired and wearing very thin for more peeps than the worshipers would like to admit. LOTRO took some, Warhammer took some and Aion will take many many as well. It all adds up. Look at the bright side Mr. Z, there will be less mob competiion when your grinding rep or rolling for that uber staff you have been chasing for weeks on end. And by the way , Chuck Norris sucks.

You know if it is just to familiarize the player with controls then why don't they have a tutorial that shows you the basics, then what? Is it gonna be the same or is it gonna be different, and also why would you want to wait 20-25 levels just to get to the "fun" stuff? Isn't the point of a game to have fun right away?

Most people find the questing, leveling and storyline a fun part of the game if not the fun part. Look at Warhammer. PVP at level one and by level 20 you realize that is all there is. Subs show folks are not happy there. Where as the "carebear grindfests" do pretty well for themselves. Do you really think its the end game or pvp that keeps LOTRO doing pretty well? Im not sure about the figures but im hearig Aion is huge in Asia and i for one can see why. For myself and apparently many others its the journey and the endgame is a part of the journey.

Obviously WAR wasn't a great game, I liked it, but one problem that it had is the system requirements and it wasn't a full game. I think if you take out the levels on WoW you could have a great game, one with good pvp AND good pve. Now sure WoW was made on levels so it probably wouldn't work out well, but if a game comes out with good pvp, good pve, little to no grind, and playable on a $500 laptop I think it could be a huge success.
But then you are told to get to level 15 and then 20 and then 25. And then people say "You are not max level" and it goes on and on.

I agree. I mean with a game built around PVP (I assume it is since everyone says the game starts at 25 when the PVP starts), you would think that you would get some introduction to PVP or an option to PVP early on.
But you are right...it is all small furry animals, delivery quests and bring me X of this or that....once you do enough we let you PVP. It just doesn't make that much sense to me.
The only problem with all of this is that there is PVP introduced at earlier levels. They're portals that will spawn that allow the opposite faction to hop over to the side you're playing on and raid your towns/kill you. Therefore you "get to experience PVP from day one." Secondly, EVERY MMORPG out on the market requires you to level up, why are you upset that AION requires leveling? If you look at the genre "MMORPG" you would have known what to expect (i.e.--leveling).
Let me compare to World of Warcraft. Do you remember PVPing Horde while leveling in Elwynn Forest? Or PVPing Alliance while leveling in Durotar? Do you remember leveling a rogue and having nothing more than 1 dagger and "Sinister Strike" "Eviscerate" for 10 levels? I do. I remember hunting fluffy animals and delivery quests, bring me X of this or that as well until level 80. Once I did enough of that I was allowed to raid content after getting X piece of gear from Y instance. It just doesn't make sense to me why you guys are agreeing with yourselves over issues that aren't even issues. If this bothers you so much that AION is following a successful formula and does something different with their game, then dont play it.
This game is officially called iYawn - what a snoozefest. I got to level 6 last night. Kill 5 of these, collect 6 sticky mushrooms, run to this guy a few minutes away and repeat. 50 levels of this will kill me! Where's the hook?
what an idiot this op is . i mean what does he expect in the first 6 levels . has he forgot what every other single mmo rpg is like at the start . i remember my nightelf in warcraft the first levels were killing so many mobs and collecting x number things theres not one iota of difference here .

well i suggest you and he give up mmorpgs then because you ll get the same experiance in every other mmorpg you play including warcraft in the early levels lol . because you wont have much fun in any of them because they offer exactly the same game experiance in those stages . the trouble is you ve got to the high levels and you ve forgotten what the low levels when your starting a character was like .
It weeds out weak players like OP and the one above me.
totally agree . i would think most likly they are both warcraft players ( i m not saying that its a bad game but it seams to attract some of the most immature people on the planet ) . if aion attracts a decent player base and leaves warcraft with the 12 year olds and people with the mentality of 12 year olds so much the better .
The only game I know of that has "intelligent quests" is Dungeons&Dragons Online. But I don't think it is the questing that draws people to Aion. The RvR-style PvP, the beautiful graphics, the flying and such things are what is interesting about this game

Absolutely.
1-10 = snoozefest
11-24 = easy predictable grind
25+ = tolerable mind-numbing opiate
