Read a majority of the posts, most of them are completely uninformed, and many of them are just hate/anger mongering for no apparent reason. A few good points were brought up though. Sadly, this is the story of the game. Dig through a pile of garbage to find some actual information. Thanks trolls.

 

Despite whatever you might want to say, despite how many times you said it would never happened, the game launched in a stable state, with the vast majority of promised features (85%ish) and no amount of trolling will change that. And yes, subscriptions are growing, hence why a new server is being opened.

I do not see how a game, having 10-20K active players 5 months after release qualifies for a victory dance. I would say its the other way around -a fiasco, a failure, and big one at that. I cannot see any MMO business model to hold on long on these numbers. But what do I know, I haven't even played the game to know that MMORPG needs more then 20K people to be successful. I must be a hater cause I said something bad about something that you love and cherish so much, it makes your mother jealous.

I guess you've never heard of a small little game called Eve Online. They operate in a very similar fashion actually... Server farm that keeps getting upgraded, steady growth over several years, free expansions every several months or so. They are now one of the most successful MMOs out there. Whereas you have WAR that gets a million subs, then down to 300k, Age of Conan 800k down to like, 90k. Darkfall started small and is growing, just like Eve. Seems the healthiest busniess model so far, if you want to argue that. 

Darkfall is a small indie niche game, it's numbers are strong and growing. It's not supposed to compare with WoW, or else it probably wouldn't attract as many er.. passionate, people. You're just as misguided as all the other trolls who think they've made a point, when instead they've just proven they don't know anything about the game. 

 

And for the post underneath you, oh I KNEW this post would attract trolls, infact I said exactly that. Guess your reading comprehension fails pretty hard, no wonder you don't know anything about Darkfall.

300,000 people signed up for beta, and only 17,000 think its good enough to play. I wouldn't call that a success. And if Mortal Online is any good, if will finish off this game.

Those of us enjoying DFO have nothing to prove, nor does Aventurine.   That is why AV doesn't post much; as it understands the hostile nature inherent in message boards, and allows its actions to do its talking.
There is obviously a great deal of angst among many here, who have never tried DFO, or have, and are convinced it's not for them.   That's fine, but why they believe it's their mission in life to save others from the terrible fate of DFO is indeed a mystery.
I took a break from DFO last month; played AION beta (which I like a lot), resubscribed to Lineage ][ which I also like a lot, and I am in the closed beta of a few other MMO's.    The longer I stayed away from DFO, the more I appreciated DFO.  There is no game like it out, and the fact it is an open sandbox pvp game with consequences at death like full loot drops, no auto targeting, skill based, makes it a very special game.     Some legitamately don't like DFO, and that's expected; no game is for every one; but some simply can't hack a game like this.  Dying and losing their gear is a fate too terrible for the typical gamer brought up on loot-centric games to accept.
At any rate, it's a great expansion (Yes, expansion due to Housing, VIillage System and Nexus System), with a ton of content additions and fixes.      I wouldn't take the trolls on this board too seriously.      It will be nice when the DFO forum becomes subscriber only, so at least the discussions can be between those actually playing the game.

Thanks for the understanding. I knew I was going to get nothing from hate by posting a brief history on the trolling, and how they were all proved wrong. What I didn't expect was many of the same people to STILL be trolling Darkfall.

 

Something I learned a few months ago. If you play Darkfall without reading the forums, the game is sooo much more fun. Nothing but bitterness on the forums cause of these people.

None of you should have replied to him.  You are doing exactly what he wants you to.  Which is bringing attention to Darkfall.  You never noticed how when Darkfall drops off the radar.  That it's always someone like Signus that makes a contreversal post.  That pretty much gets the two warring camps arguing.  Of course when that happens.  The ticker on MMORPG's front page that shows the top 5 most recent post.  Will show one or two threads from Darkfall General Discussion.  Thereby bringing it to the attention of anyone that happens to come to the site via the main page.

AV knows, the supporters knows, & the skeptics knows.  That AV isn't going to be able to fill up the NA server, and keep a healthy population on the EU server.  So what do the supporters do?  They create unnecessary drama.  Hoping to con even one or two people into buying DF.  It's actually brilliant marketing by AV.  They sit back and let all the fanatical fans do the hard work, without costing them a dime.

Just ignore him, don't argue with him.  Notice how someone asked for proof that DF is growing.  Yet all Signus did was ignore the question, and reply with something.  That can only be considered "flame bait".   He isn't interested in talking.  Just creating arguments that bring more attention to DF.  You know what they say.  Even bad publicity is better then no publicity.

"What would be the point of having moderators, or having them answer any questions, if everyone just assumes our answers regarding policy we made up on the fly?"   You shouldn't be quoting any policy at all except for that which fulls under your authoriized domain (IRC in your case, board rules for the forum moderators, etc...).  If you don't represent Aventurine then you shouldn't reference game policy at all except to quote something officially communicated by actual staff or to offer your opinion on any such policy.  By doing so, you muddy the waters and overstep your authority.  If you're actually authorized to communicate policy, as you did in this post, then you do represent Aventurine.  So, which is it?

Other than one liners and such, can you share your opinion of DFO with us?   I've tried to get some context from your post history, but genuinely can't figure it out.    It appears 25 pages or so ago, you were enjoying the game, or at least, playing it.

What are your thoughts on the expansion and patch items in it.

I could waste a few hours correcting the inaccurate, misleading statements in the op.  I could waste time correcting the inaccurate, misleading statements made by shills supporting the aforementioned statements.

 

None of it matters.  People will come up with whatever lies that allow them to sleep well at night.  They will defend these lies to their last breaths.  Why?  I have no idea.  Everyone seems to need a god of some sort to follow, I suppose.

 

Regardless, I played eve when it first launched.

 

I will state this plainly, and use as tiny of words as i can muster --

Do not compare this joke garbage of a game (which was released in 2009), to "how eve was when it first released" (6 years ago.  Which was what - 2 years into darkfall being developed? 3? Was that during one of the do-overs, or start-overs?) - EVER.

 

Make up whatever silly, nonsensical, rambling OPs and replies that you desire, until your heart is content.  The game more than speaks for itself in the utter garbage trash joke that it is - no amount of spin or lies will change that.

 

But, your license for making up silliness ends when you start comparing the liars running Darkfall and their ineptitude, incompetence and arrogance, to the people at CCP and Eve Online.

 

Blah, blah, blah all you want - honestly, no one cares - but leave real games out of your fantasy world of silliness.

 

I would probably say the same if you tried lying and comparing this joke to another real game; but, true to the party line, you insist on making a comparison to Eve Online.

 

Try DNL, or one of the other jokes, no one will care how much that type of game is lied about.

 

Also, please look up the terms you use.  Many of them do not mean what you think they mean, or your knowledge (i.e. about Eve) is faulty.

He already admitted to this, and his volunteer status on the Darkfall.com forums, months ago.  I don't know why he is denying it, or this is an issue today?

I heard people mentioning Darkfall, and it was quickly followed by "VAPORZ!! LOLOLOL", so I started doing the same, cause I figured "Oh it must just be common knowledge". 
 
When Age of Conan started to smell fishy in late 2006, I decided to look up what exactly Darkfall was (if only more trolls had done the same). I saw the feature list and said "Oh man, that's quite ambitious, I'd love for this game to come out, too bad it's vaporware." Then I went on the forums, and read the developer updates, and it became quickly apparent that the game was completely authentic and that, once again, I was faced with the fact that the internet is full of STUPID people. I officially joined up with the Forumfallers. (not that anyone really cares)
Over the next 3 years, especially on THESE boards, people came up with the most elaborate excuses as to why Darkfall was fake. The conspiracy theories would have put the Lizardmen believing New World Order nuts to shame. Several dozen posters just dedicated themselves to derailing and flaming every Darkfall thread that came up. Eventually, some members of the Darkfall community decided to argue back. A few of them, however, were a little overzealous, and did more harm than good, but most argued logically and gave plenty of evidence and feedback supporting their arguments. However, we're working with trolls here....
Some troll tried to google Earth the Aventurine office address, and said that they found no trace of any building and that it was a fake address. Later, it was found, that the moron had translated the name of a Greek street incorrectly and was searching somewhere on the other side of Athens. 
More trolls swore up and down that Darkfall could never, ever ever handle 50 man battles with twitch combat, much less the advertised hundred and two hundred man battles. Arrows would NEVER actually FLY across the map, there must be some kind of targetting. There couldn't POSSIBLY be collision detection. 
Conspiracies were made as fast as they died, the trolling community grew, and they grew angry, because they sensed the battle slipping away from them. 
Then, the 20 minute video came out, August 2008. All trolls vanished all at once from the boards. Many new people flooded the Darkfall forums. It took just a few weeks before several trolls started popping up again, saying that the battles were scripted, that the graphics don't really look like that, that it was all done with Gary's Mod and doesn't prove the game was real. But the number of trolls was greatly lessened.
Then, come September, beta went into operation. The trolls tried to have a field day with this. There were very very few leaks from this beta in the early days, so trolls figured that must mean there was no beta at all! It was all just a scam, they knew it all along! A few leaks popped up, but that was counter intuitive to the troll argument, so they ignored the evidence. 
Come time for semi-open beta in January, the Darkfall forums got DDOSed. The trolls claimed that it was all Aventurine's inside job, so that they wouldn't have to send out beta invitations. The irony is, the day the servers got DDOSed, I got my beta invitation, and was playing one of the smoothest betas I've ever been a part of. (sadly, launch was not the same story, I concede). 
Trolls went nuts, screaming that they knew it all along, Darkfall was a big scam!! and then... the forums came back up, aw, trolls silenced again. 
 
Fast forward to game launch, most of the trolls decided, their fight was lost, so they had to go covert. They are among us now, making new accounts almost daily on the Darkfall and MMORPG boards thinking they can pass as subscibers. They made half attempts at trolling features they didn't fully understand, or had only read about, and this carries on to this day.
With the launch of the North American servers, and the first free expansion(a la Eve Online), the forums will mostly locked to anyone who doesn't have a subscription. The game will continue to grow and get constructive feedback, because I've never seen anyone as critical with their game as the Darkfall fanbase. They pull apart every detail. 
 
So now, with the expansion being patched in, and North American servers a few days away, this has been long long LONG in coming. To all the trolls that still are sad and hurt that the game actually came out, and try their best to flog and bring down an INDIE developer MMO, that managed to do more than the vast majority of MMOs in the past 6 years I TOLD YOU SO. The game is out, it's growing, and though you tried DDOS, fake reviews, flaming, derailing threads, lies and slander, the game is doing fine.

I played darkfall for a few months but ill never go back unless they remove the guard towers if this Expansion Removes all the Safe zones in darkfall id buy it but a new mount the release of a new Glowie weapon and some Diablo style portal system (which dont get my wrong is awesome) i wont go back until my guild can raid and siege a starter area.

Such as Alfar raid the Orks and take there town over from them guild vs guild race vs race city vs city is what i wanted and im very disappointed that they went back on there word on release and added the towers to prevent any inner city ganking which is dumb. so Mortal online here i come.

Those of us enjoying DFO have nothing to prove, nor does Aventurine.   That is why AV doesn't post much; as it understands the hostile nature inherent in message boards, and allows its actions to do its talking.
There is obviously a great deal of angst among many here, who have never tried DFO, or have, and are convinced it's not for them.   That's fine, but why they believe it's their mission in life to save others from the terrible fate of DFO is indeed a mystery.
I took a break from DFO last month; played AION beta (which I like a lot), resubscribed to Lineage ][ which I also like a lot, and I am in the closed beta of a few other MMO's.    The longer I stayed away from DFO, the more I appreciated DFO.  There is no game like it out, and the fact it is an open sandbox pvp game with consequences at death like full loot drops, no auto targeting, skill based, makes it a very special game.     Some legitamately don't like DFO, and that's expected; no game is for every one; but some simply can't hack a game like this.  Dying and losing their gear is a fate too terrible for the typical gamer brought up on loot-centric games to accept.
At any rate, it's a great expansion (Yes, expansion due to Housing, VIillage System and Nexus System), with a ton of content additions and fixes.      I wouldn't take the trolls on this board too seriously.      It will be nice when the DFO forum becomes subscriber only, so at least the discussions can be between those actually playing the game.

Thanks for the understanding. I knew I was going to get nothing from hate by posting a brief history on the trolling, and how they were all proved wrong. What I didn't expect was many of the same people to STILL be trolling Darkfall.

 

Something I learned a few months ago. If you play Darkfall without reading the forums, the game is sooo much more fun. Nothing but bitterness on the forums cause of these people.

Other than one liners and such, can you share your opinion of DFO with us?   I've tried to get some context from your post history, but genuinely can't figure it out.    It appears 25 pages or so ago, you were enjoying the game, or at least, playing it.

What are your thoughts on the expansion and patch items in it.

Thank you for asking, ChinaCat.  For the record, I'm neither a "hater", nor a "troll".  I'm critical of Aventurine and Darkfall, but I truly wish both the company and the game the best success.  I try my best to discuss issues surrounding any game I play with rationale and logic and looking at all aspects of them. For the most part, I think I succeed, but not always, of course.

I did try the game and I did enjoy aspects of it, however, ultimately I felt it wasn't quite ready for "primetime" and was, therefore, not worth spending any further money on.  As for the patch, some of my arguments are purely academic - it's not really an "expansion", IMO, but it is a big and very promising patch.  As to the new content, I'm really curious about the player housing and how it will ultimately work out.  As I mentioned in another post, I can see players using houses with windows as brick-and-mortar shops, which seems pretty cool.  As others stated however, there are only "hundreds" of housing locations in a game that's supposed to support at least 10k concurrent users, so will they be in high demand or even viable?  Does one lose the deed when the house is destroyed?  Nobody knows. Am I curious enough to give Darkfall a second go?  Maybe.  I havent' quite made up my mind. While I think the patch is very promising, I'm waiting for more information regarding the North American launch and publisher before i decide anything one way or another.

why do ppl still post darkfall is fail cause they had 300k beta suscribers and only 10 k are playing it!

for the 795380's time AV did open the shop for a limited time and sold a certain amount of copy's...

reason for that was, they never intended to have a large amount of suscribers and even said that in there news several times! How could you improve a game when you actually listen to what your players think about the game and what suggestions they have for it when there are 300k players. Start small! rise and shine after time! Hell look at wow and how long it took till they got to 10 million accounts! Perfect example is Eve Online. released in 2003 and now has around 40k players online 24/7 and 300k active accounts!

DF has many problems we know that! still we enjoy the game...plus we are getting rewarded today! "i hope"

I'm usually not a big "Housing" guy, as it's typically nice but more of a PvE thing.  In DFO, the housing comprises Villiages, which will be a nice extension to the PvP aspect of the game by making assetts capturable and such.   The villiage system also gives players in smaller guilds an opportunity to feel like they are winning some thing, if they are currently being left out of the City component.    The Nexus system could be great, in adding mobility to the game along with the additional drop rate of runes.

A lot of promise in this patch.   Will be very interesting.

It's not even like these are hard names to spell. Aventurine is a precious gem, people have no reason to spell it "Adventurine" and I've seen a simple name, TASOS, spelled Tacos, Taoes, Toes, it's just sad. 

There is an in game log of how many people are playing, there were about 17k on last I checked I believe. So yeah, I'd say that's growing. And for those saying "That's nothing! WoW this and WoW that!" Darkfall was never meant to be anything more than a niche game, and considering it only cost about 10M euros to make, it won't take a hell of a long time to earn back and make a profit. Unlike Age of Conan, who is still in debt, with one of their companies already being bankrupt. 

No one wanted Darkfall to be another WoW clone, so long as there's enough population for fighting and competetive play, we're all happy.

Not sure why you came here trolling, but as you've noted, we're better at it than you, so might as well head back to forum fall and play with your friends.

We don't even mind being labeled trolls, so not sure why you think the name hurts us in some way. It doesn't.

Though we prefer to call it open and honest discussion, you may name call all you like, won't change our opinions much.
