Yeah. What a retarded comment that was. Getting pretty fed up with these idiots constantly calling WoW fanboism on every topic they don't like or agree with. Every decent MMO out there has swimming. From MMO's released 10 years ago till MMO's released recently. The only reason I can think of there is no swimming in this game is that they ran out of time and/or budget. Simple as that. Cheers

So what! People have the right to complain about a missing feature. A very very common feature in MMO's that have water.

You don't contribute to that. You are trolling. You are generalising with stupid comments about someone that complaints about swimming (or any other subject that matter... as this crap generalising comments pop up everywhere like the plague these last years) must be clearly a WoW fanboi.

I have played WoW in the pre-TBC days. And now play LOTRO and EQ2. Wich also have swimming. I also played many other MMO's like Tabula Rasa and AoC... and they had swimming too.

It bothers me because it feels/looks wrong. The attention to detail is amazing in most parts of the game. It is strange they would leave something as simple as a swimming animation out :-/
didn't really feel or look wrong from my perspective , Playing Gladiator with 75-100lbs of plate armor on i wouldn't expect to be able to float ..lol
but yeah i hear what your saying most other games i have played in deep waters you can swim but with Aion you really shouldn't run across that many deep bodies of water so there really isn't that big of a point to add it imo

My biggest problem is the underwater walls that Aion has atm. Still this is a pretty minor subject. Aion having well designed RvR and fast, fun pvp gameplay is far more important.

As I have stated before, swimming is something we're probably looking at implementing closer to launch or if that's not possible, shortly thereafter. It's not a thing we're planning to leave out.
Quote
While underwater scenarios sure sound quite nifty, Aion is not a game that focuses on water and the adventures therein. As a matter of fact, Aion's focus pretty much lies on the opposite end of the Y axis - the sky. And with such a focus I feel obliged to point out that you shouldn't expect swimming - as a major gameplay element - to have much priority for pre-launch implementation. Having said that, however, this is still a world of possibilities.

The official, clear, precise, definitive answer is as follows: The development team is aware that some people want swimming and may put it in-game at some point, but not necessarily at launch. They feel that certain other parts, mechanics and elements of the game have priority.
They are looking at it (which in dev terms is, we have something we were working on but didn't have the time to put it in, but might later on when the more important stuff is released) it's just not something the devs view as a priority, my counter is still the same, it makes the game look unfinished, if water is not part of the game right now then don't allow people to walk under it, that's lame.
There is really no reason for swimming. Water in Aion is just another way to define a boundary line rather than be surrounded by mountains all the time.
The reason for swimming is to take away from how horribly unrealistic it is to just trudge your way through at the bottom of water. If they want a boundary they can use the invisible boundaries many other mmos use.
Which sounds like wasted development time to me. Water leads to nothing the entire game, why should they waste time adding in swimming animations to go nowhere?
Why? It's call polish.
It's just one of those things, like jumping that EVERY MMO needs to have. Doesn't matter if there is nothing to swim to or nothing to jump to, put in jumping and swimming.
All the time they spent on the passive animations people will only see when they are sitting there staring at their toon not doing anything could be better spent making swimming animations, or drowning animations at least.
People say the passive/idle animations are so cool and add so much to the immersion, but you can't swim and instead walk on the bottom like you're wearing lead shoes? Lazy.
Super-gay. Give me a few hours I could learn to use whatever animation program they are using and making a better swim animation then walking on the lake/sea floor like a lump.

Anyway, yes they should add a swimming animation. Admit it, As beatiful and lovely as the game is, it seems rather silly that your character acts like he has Iron Boots on like Link :P They should just add an invisable wall at the shore line.
Really, MMORPGs should be more connected though to prevent this kind of problem instead of area by area :P
I over heard from some Devs at a tradeshow that the reason they can't swim is that, unlike humans, Elyos and Asmodae are composed mainly of sodium bicarbonate and other hydrous-reactive elements and are, infact, composed of materials that is close to those commonly found in Alka-seltzer.
Their skin protects them from some exposure, but total immersion results in a painful explosion of fizzing, bubbling and dissolving death.
The sloppy part (IMHO) of the Aion programming is the not including this death animation. I mean, it would be worth a month's sub just to watch some winged pretty boy writhing and screaming as he dissolves the same way Alka-seltzer does.

Add more lava, less water.
That works too, being that sodium bicarbonate burns, but that would require a different, yet gruesomely fun death animation.
I find it hard to believe that so many people are so adamant about swimming. I mean, I can understand having emotes and other immersive features. However swimming just seems to be one of those things that, well, why. I know most people want it "just because", but I really doubt that most of the people complaining about it here would spend any time at all actually swimming in the game.
I mean during the beta event I didn't see anywhere that even made me think about wanting to try and jump in the water. Most of the water around the pirate ship was shallow (unless for some reason you jumped off the other side...) and the other areas that had a lake all had very shallow water.
In the end it really doesn't matter if they do decide to add swimming, I'd rather they do just so that some people would stop complaining about it, but I still find it to be a strange thing to complain about. Maybe it's because I'm not a big RP person or something, I don't know.
Super-gay. Give me a few hours I could learn to use whatever animation program they are using and making a better swim animation then walking on the lake/sea floor like a lump.

It's more realistic actually since you cant swim while wearing heavy armor or large flowing robes.
