Its basically an immersion breaker. If you can't swim, there shouldn't be a way to actually enter any water deeper than a stream. Its lazyness and nothing more. Before someone screams BETA, the game has been released already folks. There is no real beta anymore. Immersion would've been a drowning animation as soon as you fall into any deep water. THEN I would've accepted that in Aion, people can't swim. THAT's called polish. Some developers go the extra mile. Others don't.
On the other hand, there really hasn't been any effort what so ever in designing a world thats even barely beleivable. Its pure over the top fantasy. Aion is not a living, breathing world and doesn't even attempt to try to make you beleive it is. Its not a game breaker, but its similar to not being able to jump. Just lazyness.

Fact is water as a barrier is MORE realistic than allowing consequenceless swimming. This is one of those issues that just shows how silly alot of immersion stuff is in people's heads.
How many people do you know that routinely swim, in clothes, to cross water. How many State and Country border have been created by significant bodies of water?

Might as well say flying with armor breaks immersion if you want to go that far. FACT is water being a barier is LAME and a cop out. Don't make excuses. You can swim in WOW, WAR, AOC and a host of older MMOs. F2P games are the ones that don't impliment basic features and swiming is a basic feature. Deal with it. Most people playing will start running through deep water or get stopped in their tracks and think "this is really stupid". There should be no pointless swimming. It should be a part of the game because thats what full featured AAA MMOs do. The more you play though, the more the typical asian grinder similarities rear their ugly head. Sad really.
