I wouldn't really call content you can blow through in a week an expansion. Heck, after WotLK went live, within a week, people had already hit cap on levels, professions, and downed the 25-man versions of the hardest raid bosses and got achievments like "The Immortal". I have seen someone go from level 1 to 70 in under 48 hours. If that doesn't scream easy piece of cake I don't know what is. The reason WoW is popular is because of Blizzard's game record and it's so easy to use. Outside of that it is one of the shallowest games out there and lacks any real depth. It seems this is another thread that has changed from teh original topic which states if you want to play AoC then just play it and not worry about the opinions of others good or bad, make your own. It is a mature game designed for mature gamers who can make a decision on their own. But yet again, people highjack it to bash both WoW and AoC. Let me ask a question, what difference does it make? That's a question for both of you. I've seen these arguments take place for the last 4 years, they never go anywhere. Aside from a closed thread of course, is there something you're trying to accomplish or are you just arguing for the sake of arguing? If so why not take it to PM's that way the rest of us won't have to waste our time opening up a thread and expecting a conversation to be taking place. Instead there's this, or you could simply save some bandwidth and time by simply writing "my game is better than your game". What's next, who's dad(lead dev) would beat up the others?

It doesn't make any difference, but if you don't like the conversation, don't read it. I'm simply stating that someone such as the OP criticizing WoW's start is no different than criticizing Michael Jordan's basketball career based on a foul ball shot he missed in high school.
I played WoW at launch as well as AoC. There is no comparison between the two. Whatever problems WoW had were quickly made transparent by the fact that the game was, and still is, one of the funnest games ever made. AoC's problems were not bugs at launch, but rather a weak overall game. The subscription numbers speak for themselves. If the OP likes AoC, good for her. Why bring WoW into it at all then?
Hey Guys, AoC had a rocky start (which honestly a lot fot he big named MMO's have, including WoW and WAR). A lot of the angry player base are American gamers who got spoiled by easier MMO's that have been around for years and had time to polish the bugs. They're inevitable. Funcom has spent the last year since release fixing bugs and the stability of the game, implementing DirectX 10, itemization, as well as new content to round out the middle and later levels. If you are thinking of playing AoC here's some advice. Don't read threads that bash the game or hate it. All I can say is if you're interested just try it out. Don't let my opinion (love it) or the opinion of others cloud your judgement. Try it out and see what you think for yourselves. I did even after reading the basher/hater posts...and guess what I play AoC now instead of WoW or WAR or EQ2. Get your own opinion from your own experiences.
I did what you said, what a boring game. Just my opinion.
My opinions on some issues I've seen in this thread:
Population - I play on Set and have yet to gone anywhere that was empty, I've actually spent a good bit of time waiting on spawns when I get to an area right after it's cleared or I end up grouping with anyone else who is waiting.
Chat - Yes, it gets ugly, about once a day from 5 - 6 PM EST, right around the time a lot of kiddos get out of school, then it dies down. There is a lot of helpful, friendly chat with normally 2-3 asshats spamming it up. The ignore button will make the community go from feeling stupid to nice.
That is fine if you don't like AoC. I just get annoyed about people who claim they know more than me. I have seen videos of how easy WoW is (I saw Onyxia getting 4 manned pre-BC). It pays to have a premium membership at warcraftmovies.com and have access to the underground stuff. As for 1-70 in under 48...lets say it wasn't done with the cleanest tactics or intentions but it was done. I HAVE been in Ulduar... I have one 80 and I have only had that one high character since WoW released. A bunch of others but only 1 high one. I just haven't been fortunate to get the gear drops and plus I haven't played WoW in over a month easy. I don't PvP because WoW's PvP is a joke and caters to teh exploiters (I know I'm not teh only one who think twinks killed PvP in WoW). Next time try not to judge someone by the gear they have or arena rating. Some people have different play styles and mine doesn't involve PvP. Plus I never admitted to AoC being more difficult. I just prefer teh mature content and graphics of AoC which has come a long way from when it released. The WoW fanboys just want to rant and rave and try to have the last words in edge-wise.
If someone feels that strong to want to yell because I don't like WoW and I compare it to AoC then tehy can PM me. Now depending on how it's written will depend on how I respond/ignore. I am not a firm believer in forums are for shouting matches and e-peen measuring contests just because everyone feel like they can say whatever behind the guise of a computer and an internet message board. I at least try to be civil and polite regardless of what the opinions are.
It's almost like being in a conversation with a christian. I am Wiccan and every time I discuss differences (note I said differences) they bring up how Christianity is "The" religion and that I will burn in hell because of it. I don't provoke at all but yet that's usually how the conversations go. Here I merely stated that I prefer AoC over WoW. Some of my dislikes about it and that people should gather their own opinions of it but somehow the WoW players came along and started spouting their hate. But then again I see the same hate spewed forth on every thread regardless of topic so I just choose to start ignoring the hate comments and just focus on what the thread is about.

I wanted to add, I find WoW to be about as boring, but with a far greater concentration of annoying people playing it.
I just started the re-activation trial but I can't seem to find much of a community. I just ride around on my own, bored out of my mind.
They really need to add a LFG channel like LOTRO & WoW have. I'm thinking of trying WoW again or maybe the LOTRO re-activation trial. I really just need something to play until SWTOR is out.
All my higher level characters are on Cimmeria(rp-pvp). Maybe I'll try Wiccana. What are some of the more popular things to do in AoC? I know before the game launched the hope was that there would be a lot of player cities to hang out in and battle over.
There are just so many instances in the player-city areas that I got tired of switching and looking for cities.. It seeme fairly empty.

the point of the cities isnt to provide a shopping mall enviroment. you shouldnt be running though others guild cities like they are tourest attractions, this is not their purpose.
the guild cities are for internal use, a trader in a guild city has the same things as a trader in ot.
you build up the city for crafting and siege defense.
From my understanding there are really only a few guild cities that can be sieged. Even then your guild has to have a tier 3 guild city to claim one of the siegable cities.

Wicanna had a very healthy population last time I played there. I also played in Cimmeria. I may come back if Funcom releases an expansion that adds a huge land mass. I liked the game, but the game felt small. Also, I am not going to play again through Tortage. An option to start in one of the main cities would be great.
I am going to wait until they release an expansion and see if a new land is added.
the recent patch allows you to make a 1 time level 50 char if u have another toon above 70 i think.
There is also a new area and some instances. However, and indeed rightly so they have fleshed out their current land mass, i remember how much i had to grind .
There is supposed to be a returners patch coming out which will allow all people with accounts to play for a month free... might be worth a blast!
I just tried it out, its honestly the most addictive MMO out there. I can't seem to put it down hehe.
Really enjoying the group PVP aspect, everyone on my server seems really nice...
Cimmeria <--
The instant I started playing a guild invited me and i've been playing with them ever since, very different game. The combo system is addictive, I'm normally a caster class but in this game I didn't really enjoy it until i rolled a barbarian.
I've played almost every MMO out there and I never played AoC when it was broken, I waited until they fixed a lot of everyones complaints to give it a try and i was pleased.

Well, there is an expansion in the works but it's not slated for release till next year sometime. By the looks of it, it'll have an Asian/Persian feel to it.

Something you hear more of these days for the people that waited. Perceivance paid off.
I think it is important to get in to a good guild in game for the best experiences.

One of the main reasons I quit yet again (I think this is the 4th time) during the re-evaluation period is the global channel. I mean really, just who the hell thought of that must be some real douchebag who knows nothing about MMOs. I couldn't find grps for anything, people spamming constant bullshit at such speed that it's next to impossible to find not only useful info but also people willing to do some group quests for low level zones. How hard can it be to put a LFG channel, ffs? Does Funcom need yet again 1 year to fogure out how to implement such basic things in an MMO?
And global channel in AoC reveals very much the true state of the game, I'd say. For one thing, people on the most known European pvp server Fury are much more immature than on several WoW servers, be it either pve or pvp. Secondly, in AoC people CONSTANTLY talk about other MMOs, in WoW you only see a little bit about Aion from time to time, but mostly people there talk about the game they are playing. I don't know, but people constantly talking about other games in AoC and discussing where to go when upcoming titles are coming only leads me to think that they are either bored of AoC or simply can't do anything in the game to pass the time but talk about other games and reminisce about the good old days.
a.) You can block channels b.) Fury is where all immature players met. Try other servers - FFA pvp ... do you remember xpirs? Well there is 1k xpirses there
And how am I supposed to look for grps, then? Everything is done via global channel, from trading to pugs. Local channels, such as Cimmeria, are dead.
The thing is that trying it out you'll mostly be experiencing Tortage, but is that a good representation of the game post-Tortage? I did the 7-day trial and made it out of Tortage and had a great time with it. But I'm just a bit uncertain about subscribing because I don't know what the real game will be like. And once I got into the area after Tortage it was pretty empty of players. I think I only ran across one other player. But by that time my 7 days were up.
I actually find the game opens up at 20 and is far, far better once you are out of Tortage! I even felt that the first time around. I don't play an MMO for a linear story driven solo player experience...I enjoyed the game much more once I was out exploring the Wild Lands, Khopshef and the like...so I guess it's down to your personal tastes.

I agree with you on this. I found Tortage to be the worst part of the game. Unfortunately we are the minority. Majority of players seem to prefer Tortage. Maybe it's because Tortage is much more detailed and polished than the rest of the world?
i would say tortage is pretty polished and pretty detailed, but its the size of a speck compared to the size of some of the later maps.
The game is much more fun later on, especially when combat opens up as you get more skills/combos, and features.
I can see tortage becoming very tedious as i experement with rolling new characters, the only thing keeping it fun for me is some of the epic noob pvp that breaks out, definitly keeping a lowbie pvp character in tort. Not nearly as fun as the khesh pvp battles that can break out.
Not hard at all to scroll up global chat and right click ignore a person who is spamming chat. I'm willing to wager several other people right clicked and ignored the person as well.
Not so hard to do, then you can go back to looking for a group.

You're full of nothing but misinformation and lies. I find it hard to believe that you have ever played WoW if you actually believe someone can normally do 1-70 in 48 hrs. Even among very experienced gamers, and with the introduction of higher experience rates, it is generally accepted that it will take around a month for someone that is not a freak to level to 80. While WoTLK has very easy raids, so what? Blizzard quickly added Ulduar, which is much harder. And again, why are you bringing up how "easy" a game is as though you are some kind of pro-gamer?
You claim WoW is so easy, yet you have zero arena rating, almost zero PvP experience, and you haven't even completed all the heroics in Northrend. While some people were able to breeze through it, how does that effect everyone else? You have accomplished nothing in the more difficult raid content. If WoW is too easy then why are you even playing AoC? There is nothing difficult about AoC.
As for your "awards" , what a joke. Sure WoW sucks and AoC is great, keep telling yourself that as you play with the 10 other people on one of AoC's 5 servers LOL! If you are so smart that you know the exact reason WoW is so popular, then maybe you should open your own MMO. And please tell me, if you are so much smarter than everyone else and demand a game that is not too "EASY" for you (Mr. ZERO arena rating, Mr. Not Stepped a Foot in Ulduar), then why does almost no-one else play AoC?
And if it bothers you so badly to try to compare WoW to AoC, then you only have yourself to blame. You are the one that brought it up in your OP.

/sigh
I did what you said, what a boring game. Just my opinion.
I wanted to add, I find WoW to be about as boring, but with a far greater concentration of annoying people playing it.
lol
I just started the re-activation trial but I can't seem to find much of a community. I just ride around on my own, bored out of my mind.
They really need to add a LFG channel like LOTRO & WoW have. I'm thinking of trying WoW again or maybe the LOTRO re-activation trial. I really just need something to play until SWTOR is out.
What server are you on. Wiccana seems to be pretty lively on the PvE side of the house.
Save a Tree.... Eat a Beaver
Welcome to Hyboria, mate:)

REMOVE THE F****** GLOBAL CHANNEL!
a.) You can block channels
b.) Fury is where all immature players met. Try other servers - FFA pvp ... do you remember xpirs? Well there is 1k xpirses there
And how am I supposed to look for grps, then? Everything is done via global channel, from trading to pugs. Local channels, such as Cimmeria, are dead.
