Is that not the greatest warning on earth ever? If AV truly used all $12m in developing that code, if. Since they spent not a dime on ad, not a dime printing boxes. All $12m development loan is spent on developing the game.
$12million, and they can only come up with this kind of crap. What kind of efficiency we are looking at? How many more $12m before they can fix the pile of turd? Another 8 years? Another $12million?
You don't know much about MMO developement do you. UO was a multi million dollar development and they had their own engine made from UO 7. WoW, if I remember correctly, was 2x as expensive as DFO in developement cost. 12 mill is pretty standard.
Why do you stop at half way. $12million is pretty standard ... you said, yes it is a decent budget for a good game. What DF delivers is not worth 10% of that budget. Many Asian grinders are developed at 10% of AV's budget and definitely offer far more content and far less issues, and not taking 8 years.
Fact is all of the games delivered online free by Tencent cost a tiny fraction of AV's loan, many of them pretty fun to play with, daily number of players online in Tencent amounts to aroun d 10million, in china, as measured by the counts of account in the game system online. That alone counts. Fun. You do not need $12m, you only need to delivery fun. Delivering a pile of turd after spending $12m is not a thing to take pride on.
Do I know much about software? How much do I earn per month? What is my job, my credential? Do you know? Go personal. That is the way you talk I believe.
Korean grinders also don't develiever anything original (for the most part) and copy Lineage or WoW. This game was also developed in 8yrs (standard is 5-6 yrs MO has been in developement for 6 yrs I think) 12-20 mil/8yrs Yea all the money went into developement. Not hard concept to understand.
Nothing original from Korean grinders, with a budget of $0.8 million on average.
Crappy client side hack ridden codes, empty world void of NPCs, no quest, worst grinder skill set, ... you finish the endless list. All these for $12million. You can try to present all these weakness as features, sure, you can sell turd as intended features, people with a brain will know not to buy it.
Shame on AV, to deliver such a turd after promising so much on a phony list on their own website, and squandered $12million + 8 years.
1) Sigh the way the hack program works is by intercepting client to server and visa vi information. These cheats/hacks also exist for AoC, WAR, EvE, Planetside. They are working on these cheats for MO, Startrek, Starcraft 2, and WoW.
2)There are quest, about 250+ of them of various diffculty and amount of work
3) US1 has been up for about 4 days. People already are getting elemental magic becuase THE GRING IS NO LONGER INTOLERABLE. The hacks are also not working on US1
4) Player housing is in, villages are in (similar to SB mine fights), titles are in
5) Crafters are making a crap load of money on US1 (800 for a set of banded second lowest set of metal armor lol)
Of course, you don't know about any of this because you don't play the game.
So I guess the 100 or so people who were actually dumb enough to pay another $50 are having a good time, right? Good for them!
More than a 100 sadly. 100s of new players are joining the game as well. Many people waited for US1 to launch and still kept up with the info of the game and still saw it as worth a buy.
We'll see after the free month is up. The EU version had about 13,000 - 15,000 players at it's peak. How many do you think the US version will have? I'll guess that it will have half of the EU population.
But like I said, we'll see after the first month is over.

The client side distributed processing cannot be fixed by anything short of total recoding, if you do not understand this, that is not my concern. I know my business here.
There are x number of quests? Good. Sadly many of the disapppointed DFers were unable to find them or enjoy them.
Grind is no longer intolerable, after months of release, after 8 years of development and $12million. This is an achievement indeed.
Crafters are able to make money, is that news? Crafter in many games are able to make money, from UO to SWG to DAoC to WoW. That is another feat of DF? Sure.
Once again, deploying the same dismissive dirty trick. That I do not play == I am unable to make comments. Good, why don't you ask the court to throw us all in jail because we talk about your precious baby without contributing money to AV's shady business?
You missed my point completely. You are talking about stuff that were problems as if they are still problems when they aren't. Since you never played the game, you wouldn't know that these things are no longer problems and listing them as if they were hurts the game. If someone dosen't call you on it people will think that what you say is a fact, when its not.
The reason people couldn't find quest is mainly because 1) most people don't care about them so the info isn't out there 2) there aren't many quest that tell you go talk to this guy to get more quest. People are too use to seeing ! over every NPC's head instead of trying to find things themselves.
The reason I commented on the fact that people are selling banded armor sets for 800 is that they are only worth about 250 a set. Since nearly all the exploits for mobs was fixed, dropped armor had is durability cut by 3/4s most of the time, and nodes were changed crafters are able to over charage for items and make more money than they should.
The grind hasn't been intolerable for nearly 2.5 months now. The problem is everyone felt that they had to grind everything to be on the level of "cheaters" when you really don't. Peopel realsied this it appears and are focus leveling skills and doing it while PvEing.

Points noted. I am not involved in the DF codes in anyway, I cannot tell for sure if the client side issues are or are not there. NA-1 is a new server, so far I only heard of 1 claim of hacking. Good, lets wait and see.
What I am saying is, the quests are not in a way that contributes to the game. Sad, if they exist. The overall game mechanics somehow limits their value to the gamers. Unlike WoW or other PvE games in which ppl look for them. Good if ppl do not miss the quests and enjoy the game on its own. Sad if some people left the game b/c they were bored with endless ganking but unable to get connected to the thousands of quests you mentioned.
Ok all the fixes you mentioned, lets see how the game goes.
Fact is, if AV can turn around this initial fiasco, it would be amazing. Lets wait and see.

On the quest note: There are quest that give enchanted armor, siege equipment (battle spikes and siege hammers), and 1000s of gold prior to the expansion. Most people couldn't find them and thought that quest rewards stopped with trolls and decided to go PvP instead.
After the expansion title quest, which give you a stat buff that you can change once every 24hrs (peopel believe that its 2-10 depending on the buff level or how deep you are in the chain), have been added. These quest tell you to DO A LOT (the Str one has you kill 300 mobs), but are meant to be taken as soon as you drop into the game. The low level ones, which give you +2 to a stat, have you kill easy mobs. If you are just starting out, doing these quest will not only give you the stat buff, but also the 2k gold, items, stat gains for doing the quest when you are killing mobs, 100s if not 1000s of gold from the mobs either in direct gold drops or in items, and material you skin from them. I've just started doing the one that requires me to kill goblins (lvl 1 mobs), and have wracked up 1k in just gold, about 40 in useable crafting material, 3 levels (34-37) in my 1h mastery which is slow to level, and various other small gains.

Interesting additional information. Why are the DF supporters not talking like this? This would at least help people watch and think about DF. We need information, not hot air.

Thank you.
