You are correct. Aion will not appeal to most WOW players and actually it will make them quite angry when they get to level 20-25+ and Rifts start opening and they realize this game eliminates the player's choice to PVP when they want too. It is simple as that.
WOW players like choice, that is ultimately why the game is so big and why so many people like it. Aion doesn't give you a choice to PVP, it doesn't give a choice of leveling zones, it doesn't even give you a choice of starter zones or races (just 1 per side and that is the only choice you make).
And wow fanbois come here to remind us how terrible the aion community is after spotting a post that might seem agressive towards a trolling thread.

I don't even go to Aionsource anymore..I joined the site in November of 2006 and lets just say ever since Mark got canned and the preview events started the community there went to shit.
The community at Aionsource fell apart when NCsoft decided that they were going to take EXTRA long for their "localization". Since then it has been nothing but hate, miss-information, and downright rudeness.

The game is ripe for this type of community if you think on it awhile. Pretty graphics, fast linear leveling to get to the gankfest quicer, and dont forget wings, oh my we can fly. Just the right bait to attract those that cannot see any past their nose to see how shallow the game appears to be, at least what ive seen of it . But i have to admit, the graphics are pretty.

I enjoy the game. I have played the Korean release, the Chinese release (must say the Korean release was much nicer than the Chinese), and the preview weekends and don't feel that the game is shallow. However, the gameplay is quite linear in the beginning but opens up to a lot more areas to explore after level 20. All level based games are going to be linear to a point. The only way to get rid of this would be to place high level mobs amongst the low levels resulting in frustration among the players.

I don't have any problems with your sincerity, however, your sarcasm in some of your posts makes it sound like all that follow Aion are empty headed fools and that you are far superior. Narcissism does not befit anyone.

To the last two posters: The number 1 reason I am not trying Aion at launch is the community. Now granted, there are some nice people and some helpful ones. But the majority of the people here and at that other site, only want to attack you, insult you and refuse to listen to any criticism about the game. It truly reminds me of the Age of Conan forums prior to launch, just worse. People rather insult you than debate you. And the funny part is, very few people have trolled (going by the definition of the word) these forums. Sure there are some, but for many we offer constructive criticism of the game and debate/discuss issues we think will be come problems later on. The other major issue keeping me from the game is how linear it is to me. But there is no fixing that at this point.
Sorry but imo Aion seems like it'll have a great community and I rather play with a bunch of players who are also happy and defensive of the game, then people who couldn't care one way or another.
Perhaps the reason people aren't listening to your criticism is because of the way you say it. You better be able to articulate yourself if you expect to get anywhere otherwise of course you're going to get attacked and insulted if you go to a forum, of a game you clearly aren't happy with. That much should be obvious on any forum you go to and if you didn't realize that before you should know that by now.
The issue was raised that Aion would appeal to the common, everyday WOW player. I am arguing that it isn't and that is the point of a forum, debate and discussion.
Agree completely.
It won't appeal to the average WoW kid/housewife because it's kinda hard to get good gear (and freakin next to impossible to get the best). Also there's a Death penalty that is significant and hurts a bit. Those are too much of a pain for the average WoW player. A friend (plays WoW and knows squat about any other MMO, like most WoW players) nearly had a heart attack when I was telling him about Eve and how you lost your ship forever once it was destroyed.
WoW has an insane amount of players, however everywhere you go the zones are empty. Why? All the high levels are crammed inside the city queueing arenas, bgs or waiting for some raid. The majority of WoW players like and enjoy that (obviously), so seeing as it isn't so in Aion, it doesn't appeal that much. It's relatively painless, and Blizzard still makes it easier and easier by the week so that every 8 year-old and above enjoys his full tiered gear and his awesomeness and uber skillz.
Of course you need to add to that the art style, the lack of starting areas, the similarity with WoW during the early levels (extremely boring as well) etc. So yea, it won't appeal to the common WoW player, and am I thankful for that!
Aion is different in that PvP is more meaningful than WoW. Aion is a more PvP focused game than WoW. The majority of WoW players in NA / EU are on PvE servers. WoW is focused on the casual mostly pve player. The two games are very different in focus. The main similiarity between the two games is no collision detection on players / mobs verus each other.
Now, are there issues with Aion for me? Of course, there are issues. The biggest one is the amount of consumables used in pvping. The second is concern over botting, hacks, and gameguard. However, I will play the retail version and see how NCsoft deals with these issues.

I consider myself very articulate and I think I have my points have been made clearly, it is not my fault people rather insult me and not debate what I am saying.
There is a different with being defensive of the game and being ignorant that there are issues that need to be addressed and treating the game like it is perfect in every way.
Yes, but some folks like myself would say it's futile to argue one way or another about a game we have seen so little of. Even those folks who have played the C-Aion don't fully know what we will be seeing come 9/22. If you have experience on the Korean version, can back up what your saying with sound facts, and can prove it to us (through convincing us you know what your talking about, or screenshots) then your argument pro or con will hold a lot more weight then this pissing match of theory craft of what might or might be wrong with the game off the out dated version we have seen for just over 1/3 of the levels.
Every game has issues, some games do well to address most of those issues to cater to the player base, some games have the player base adjust to "features" that are seen as issues.
There have been some decent points made here and there, sad to see the flames roar up here and there with no basis to there arguments other then "don't attack my game" or "I said it, there for its correct".

There is also a difference between "issues" and "features". You think Rifts are an issue to be changed whilst the developers (and i'm inclined to agree with them) believe them to be a feature of their PvPvE game.
You want to change a feature part of Aion without even having experienced it in the live game is nothing more than trolling imo. Personally i'll give the developers the benefit of the doubt and see how it plays out first before passing judgement.

Its not sarcasm im very sincere when i point out that there are a lot of "empty headed fools" that come to the banner of Aion . The problem with that is that they yell the loudest and most often. There are good and bad in all games but make no mistake im not the only one to notice an overabundance of it in Aion and it doesnt help convince people on the fence to buy the game. I have already given my opinion on what attracts these types to the game. I also have seen intelligent, well thought out posts by Aion fans as well but from what ive seen the scales tip heavily on the side of the flamethrowers.
What many are missing who say that there is no choice in Aion, is that Aion is a game designed with playability in mind over re-playability.
To compare WoW and Aion as has been done so often, lets even take the time WoW has been availiable, out. WoW has 3, 4 even 5 times the content for 50 levels. More dungeons, more zones more characters etc. However, Aion has polished it's zones, it's characters, it's quests to the point where I'd choose any single factor in Aion over WoW, it lacks however replayability.
The continual new content that is added for the higher level characters in particular also lends credence to this theory. This isn't to say the lower levels are being neglected, but Aion is a game where you create a character-maybe two, and become attached to them, rather then creating 10 different alts all max level. The fact you can buy emotes(in game money), that there is fashion, the armor customization and the character customization also is another point tothe idea that Aion is a game about attachment.
The attachment to the character is what leads to immersion, regardless of the environment or gameplay. Granted, both gameplay and environment help, but if you can't get attached to your character, no matter how cool or pretty the world is, it will all feel wrong.
It's almost 2010, and I am just not wiling to tolerate clunky graphics while being told that "gameplay is more important than graphics". That excuse won't wash with me any more. I expect my games to have both good graphics and good gameplay. -Quote Isoke(VN boards)

Its a Korean MMO Its published by NCSoft It doesnt look visually attractive It doesnt appear to bring anything new Its clearly not new itself (being v1.5) So what am I missing? Is it just that since around 2004 all of the recent MMO's have been crap and thus anything that doesnt look 3/10 suddenly jumps into everyones MMO GOTY list? I dont get it, I think everyones being blinded by hope and marketing hype and neglecting to see this game for what it really is.. A ho-hum, run of the mill lineage2 clone.
You are 100% right on what you think. But I will play before I start thinking about Aion. There is nothing like personal experience.
Many said WoW ruled and was the best game out, I tried it and I found it sucked for me. I always learn by doing and not listening. Maybe you learn by listening and not doing. Different people have different preferences.
Your prefrences is Lieage 2 and ours (Aion "Discussion" forum people) is Aion. Why are you posting here lol.
I feel dumber even opening this thread .. This is moronic and the what the OP says is pure fallacy..
"A fallacy is an argument which provides poor reasoning in support of its conclusion. Fallacies differ from other bad arguments in that many people find them psychologically persuasive. That is, people will mistakenly take a fallacious argument to provide good reasons to believe its conclusion. An argument can be fallacious whether or not its conclusion is true.
Example
Argument: Cutting people is a crime. Surgeons cut people. Therefore, surgeons are criminals.
Problem: Cutting people is only sometimes a crime. "

I don't have any problems with your sincerity, however, your sarcasm in some of your posts makes it sound like all that follow Aion are empty headed fools and that you are far superior. Narcissism does not befit anyone.

You wouldn't understand
Sorry but imo Aion seems like it'll have a great community and I rather play with a bunch of players who are also happy and defensive of the game, then people who couldn't care one way or another.
Perhaps the reason people aren't listening to your criticism is because of the way you say it. You better be able to articulate yourself if you expect to get anywhere otherwise of course you're going to get attacked and insulted if you go to a forum, of a game you clearly aren't happy with. That much should be obvious on any forum you go to and if you didn't realize that before you should know that by now.

It does tend to attract trolls for some reason !
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
Ok that just sold me on this game.

And your likely just another American......like all those other Americans who were on the Rick Mercer show......does that make you like them all? I hope not!!!
Therefore your logic fails.........*stops the OP in his next mid-sentence* Shhhh......you've lost......
