Yep. It ids time to move on. XP servered me well and all I hear is good things about Windows 7 so yeah...I'll be moving on to it. Probably even going to pre-order it.
Vista 64 is fine for me.. I have no problems whatsoever.
Just remember... the upgrade to win7 will be pretty easy for Vista users... but for XP users, you're gonna have to back up all your files, upgrade and then restore them back. At least that's what I've read.

Although I said wait until SP1 it may be longer. I'll probably wait until I upgrade my mobo and cpu to core i7 (or whatever is current at that time) and probably won't be for a couple more years. I'm a firm believer that if you OS is working for you why change it. My Vista Ultimate 64bit works fine, especially now I ditched my HD4870 for a GTX285, so I'll stick with what I have for the foreseable future.
Look at the poor Australians due to the EU forcing all that "anti-trust" shit because of companies like AMD. They get Windows "E", which doesn't even come with a web browser. Why? Because Google and Opera and other browser makers claimed it was unfair, so the EU demanded Microsoft package all of their competitor's browsers for customer's to choose. Would you package your competitor's shit with your product? Neither would MS, so they just removed the browser all together.
A long time ago, in a continent far far away (EU). People have this really bizarre concept that competition drives progress. Products become cheaper and improve in quality.
As opposed of course to defending monopolies where companies get to dictate the quality and price of their products to the consumers. While making darn sure that their billion dollar advetising campaigns and lobby henchmen prevent any alternative products from ever hitting the shelves.
Zorvan, I'm not trying to be insulting, i'm just gonna call it as i see it, but either:
-You work for Microsoft and/or one of their subsidiaries and good for you for earning that paycheck.
or
-You're a sheep and you completely fail at your responsabilities as a consumer. What idiot believes that there's an advantage in buying something that's more expensive than it should ever be under normal (competition) circumstances? And what idiot thinks that Microsoft has any incentive whatsoever in serving your interests, unless theres someone there to keeps them on their toes?
Still thinking how those EU folks that bought win 7 gona download other browser if its the first pc they have at home...
I know, copy from friends etc, but its too troublesome... Stupid law...
Personally , i would only buy after sp1 is out. Though MS always claim that their new os is more secure, but in a few months time people willl always find a loop hole, a critical problem with it...
I love the people who knock it before they've tried it. I've been running Windows 7 RC and it is wonderful. I have yet to experience a problem. It's fast and sweet. It even ran beautifully on a low powered netbook.
I took advantage of the preorder offer on the upgrade versions. $49 for Home Premium compared to $119 the upgrade will be when released.
We are talking about Microsoft aka Microcrap who have a bad track record when it comes to operating systems. Lot of you people have short memories, look what happened with Vista and you want to buy Win 7 at release. Personally I wait until a year has passed. Plus with the recession in force in lot of areas, not everyone is going to be abled to afford WIN 7 or the hardware required to run WIN 7 if WIN 7 turns out to be worse then VISTA and we all know VISTA is a resource and memory hog.
Also what burns me is that Vista users get FREE COPIES OF WIN 7 while those of us who are still using XP have to pay full price for WIN 7 which is quite expensive and especially after reading the recommended specs for running the OS one has to get a high end system to run it.
Maybe when the economy recovers and when are out of the recession, I might consider getting WIN 7 and a new rig to run.
I am most likely going to be buy it shortly after release. I have been running it for a while now, older beta version and now the RC version. It runs very well. My computer starts up quickly, runs super stable, plays almost all my games, even older ones. Have been running Warcraft 3 on it. So, compatibility issues are pretty low. Have not had a blue screen yet. I built a new computer at the end of march and this is the only OS it has had. I was skeptical, but very impressed now.
I run with Vista now. I would go back to XP, but don't wanna bother with all the effort to re-install everything. It's summer time and I don't spend much time on the PC anyway. I will just hold on till Win7 comes out and buy it. Vista is tolerable now...but I still have alot of annoyances with it.
I will probably get it in the new year am currently running the RC of it so no mad rush.
On a personal note i have found it to be exceptional with a lot of nice features.
No performance gain on main machine but its a monster but on my laptop which is a avergae gaming lappy from last year have noticed a massive performance increase over Vista 64

Wait...i thought the free copies for vista uses only applied if you bought your system with vista on it after june 26th? I got my Dell back in February.
At this point I'm terrified of Windows 7 - Not because it's Microsoft or I'd need to see SP1 first, but because everyone I've spoken with who's run the RC on Win7 say's it's incredible and they love it. I have heard not a single negative and I deal with a wide mix of highly technical people.
My first thought was "Wow Microsoft finally did it they brainwashed everyone that is amazing"
The thing about it is these are all people I trust. Again I'm waiting for one of those Invasion of the Bodysnatcher moments and haven't tried the RC myself, but maybe they finaly do have something that borders on complete??? Is it time to stop waiting for Apple to open up OSX to run on every system ? ( <-- Hope not Apple has a smart thing going running their software on their hardware)
I think they finally listened to all of the complaints especially after Vista. I can only assume they listened to the gamer complaints as well. That said I do have a copy of Win7 reserved already and hope to test out Maya and a couple other apps to put it through its paces. To each their own, but at this point I'm saying go for it.
For those who don't want to pay the full price besides buying a new system eligible for upgrade or an eligible oem now I believe they're also releaseing a stripped down starter edition and there's finally info out there that explains how you can upgrade from XP (http://www.wxpnews.com/IYBRSH/090714-Hardlink-Migration).
and - Yes, June 26th hearing some call it Vista on steroids - or Vista without Vista?
I will buy it sometime before the license runs out on the RC of Windows 7 I have. I have liked it a lot more than Vista even though it is pretty much the same.
My answer would be yes, if I could build a PC with a directX11 card when win 7 launches. Since this probably won't be the case, I'll probably wait until the new generation of cards is available. So for me it's a decision restricted due to hardware, not software. Edit: I didn't vote because nothing applies for me. I'm also relatively happy with vista.
I believe the vast majority of Directx 11 features run on Directx 10 cards. So if you are mistakingly waiting for that, you will be disappointed.
I personally have avoided Vista, even though I have a directx10 graphics card because all games run slower on Vista on my system, but I will probably upgrade to Windows 7 next year sometime.

Well, here. Let me see if I can not insult you, too.
I don't work for MS. Wish I did, I hear the pay is great.
And what's with the "responsibilities as a consumer" crap?
My "responsibility" as a consumer is to buy what wortks best for me and to let others know if something is shit. Windows 7 isn't shit.
More expensive than if their were competition?
Gee, I guess Apple doesn't exist anymore then, right?
Did all the different distros of Linux shut down too?
Or is it that maybe, even with competition, MS comes out on top?
And where did you see me say anything about MS serving mine or anyone else's interest? Becuase I agree they were right in stripping out the browser completely in the "E" version rather than be forced to market their browser competitor's shit?
Go open a business and have the government tell you that you can't sell your stuff unless you include your competitor's shit for free, also. If you're willing to do it, then obviously you don't belong in business to begin with.
Personally, I think your little rant is a joke, but as a "sheep", i don't want to insult you.
Personally anything Microcrap publishes scares me. But the reason I run their OS is cause I play almost every game out there with a rating of 8 or more that isn't in the sports genre ((hate sports)). But if they could make a Unix variant that ran games as well as Microcrap, and one that supported all my components, well hell I would run that.

Any gamer who runs a bleeding edge OS instead of waiting at least a year is an absolute moron. The support isn't going to be there, and it won't be encompasing for at least that long. If you're cool with having to ask "Does it support windows 7 ;;" every time you want to try something, go right ahead...
I've been running it for over a year and a half ( legit as a TechNet tester, not "cracked" off torrent sites ) with no game compatibility issues with anything other than Gameguard when trying to play AION ( and considering Gameguard is a rootkit, the fact Win 7 blocks it out tells me it's working as intended ) and Tage DRM used on Darkstar One ( which is the same rootkit type shit as Gameguard ). So sorry, this gamer is not a "moron" but is enjoying his "bleeding edge" OS very much, thank you.
For me the deal breaker is no "What u hear" function because Microsoft have disabled it on Windows 7 so the record companies don't moan about people recording their tracks. So legit people who used it for making videos and stuff get burnt.........
Is that Microsoft's fault? Or Windows 7's fault? Nope. And there's free programs to download that work with 7 that do the same thing.

I plan on waiting till the first service pack comes out personally. My reasoning is simple...
1. I mean really, when has Micro$oft ever put out anything not majory flawed on first release day?
2. Most MMO's are set to play on xp and vista...when Win7 comes out the devs need time to coordinate their game coding to support Win7.
When I know its stable and my fav MMOs support it..THEN I will get it
