People need to calm down about the Box price.

MrbloodworthMrbloodworth Member Posts: 5,615

We have all paid more for colectors editions, and that is essentially what you are doing here, buying a limited run box set (Even the "Normal" is a limited run, as a BOX was not ever really part of the distribution plan, until fans asked for it). AFAIK, this is the only time you can buy a box for this game.

Buy it, or don't.

AOC - CE: $89.95

LOTRO - CE: $79.99

WAR - CE: $79.99

Everquest II - CE: $83.89

AION - CE: $70

I agree...nothing rediculous about the price. But I would think after the past few years of let-down after let-down in the MMO world, people wouldn't be so fast to jump on a pre-order limited edition.

And really, from a limited edition...what do you really get? Some junk that will sit in a drawer and a few digital items for looks. First and last 'collectors edition' I bought was from AoC. Now it sits in a clothset, and I no longer play the game...waste of money. From now on, regular editions are good enouph for me.

This is exactly how I feel, Collector's are a bit of a waste of money, and without having played MO is hard to actually buy it, its just really annoying people blowing it out of proportion tho, its obvious to me people wanted to be in the beta but wanted to pay much less and are venting their frustration on the box prices and how the company "screwed" them over ,but beta is not mandatory anyone can just wait for release and/or for the NDA to be lifted to judge the game and buy it cheaper.

I normally buy CE and box sets, even if i may potentially not like the game. But that's me.

And thats why they made the boxed versions :) , some people just like to buy them and they should receive something in return for the investment in the game in this case a place in beta, I didnt buy a box version I will wait for DD if i get into beta fine, if I dont I will just wait until the NDA is lifted and reviews start coming out to fully partially evaluate the game.

I agree...Limited editions are meant to be expensive....Though they tend to be a waste...I have Aoc and WAR sitting in a drawer somewhere....I think ill start waiting for a trial to come around for these new games....

Just curious. Where do you get that the boxed version is a limited edition. The shop clearly said that the loot bag is a limited edition, it said nothing about the boxed version and I haven't seen anything suggesting otherwise.

    Interesting thread title :)

After reading the thread title and many of the posts regarding this topic, i must say that it is too late!

Looking  at the angry/agressive postings of (fanatic?) supporters versus (fanatic?) critics there is not much chance they will calm down.

This reminds me very much on the old DnL preorder flame wars *laughs*

    Does anyone remember this crap?

thanks for looking up these prices.

i too like to buy limited edition styled boxes. I simply couldnt afford the 999 copy run one, so i got the normal box set.  I buy them usually for the art books. ^_^

A little reading and a little research would go a long way in this case.

Look it up yourself as to how many boxed edition copies there are going to be, and if there are going to be anymore. If not then it is limited.

Before one of  you play the "everything is limited by that definition" card, think about what you are going to say and how you will look saying it. Even WoW with millions is "limited" if you want to stretch credulity but any one with common sense knows what I am saying.

Some people seem worried now after pre-ordering, then come here to reflect their worries. Hopefully they won't start threads later about "how garbage the game is". Seems they are taking a break from Darkfall and starting to go emo on this one.

B Block here, I have no problem with the price personally.

  • MrbloodworthMrbloodworth Member Posts: 5,615

I think the people really up in arms, were upset because they now had to find a justification to someone other than themselves for the price, and may miss a chance at a beta.

But this price really is simply par for the course. Buy, or don't, its your call, don't blame developers for making things you really want, but cant afford. lol.

After the pathetic nature of many new MMOs over the past few years and Darkfalls outright scammy nature.  Think I will sit back for MO and watch how it develops. I am certainly NOT going to fuck around with any collectors editions/early access bullshit.

Being cynical I also have to wonder if they are going for box sales over long subscriptions ? Mind you Df has proven than people wil lap up any shit so why not ?

I don't think you cynical, I think your confused and think developers only want money, and not a successful game they have put years of there life into with a long term revenueto continue doing what they love, make games.

I fall in that same category I always thought CE's were a waste of money and given the state in which so many mmo's come out now I agree they are an even bigger waste of time.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

1 play a trial before you buy it.  Second most games I have paid for just for the game itself by default was roughly around 50 bucks.  Where in the hell do you idiots buy your games.  Hell I got Lineage 2 for like 20 bucks due to the fact I bought the original game long after the game had been out.  Stop blowing all your money on over hyped games.

Actually, I think most of us realize Starvault 'needs' the money, or this game will never see the light of day in order to generate long term revenue.

Hey, its cool by me if they decide to fund raise by selling beta slots, and it appears they had no problems finding many people to participate.
