I think it is one of those aspects I do not understand. I like my country, but I would never love a concept like that.  While I think my country is a pretty good place to live and it is also very highly rated on all kinds of international meters. However, I have no concept of how to "love" a country. I have served my country, but not due to love or feeling of patriotism, but because it is expected of us. I also have lived in other countries, including the US. I can say that there is some truth to the saying, "Your home is where your heart is", but not because of love, at least not for me.  It is feeling of familiarity  to me and there is some comfort in that.

I have often been asked whether I would die for my country when debating with Americans, and I have to say that I rather would not. It would have to a very special situation where I would use a weapon against a fellow human being. And borders alone are not a good enough reason for me.

I also do not feel the need to defend my country against verbal abuses to the degree that many Americans do. Now, of course, my country is not a spotlight all the time, but I still probably would consider it absurd.

Nationalism and patriotism simply are not for me. And it seems in so many ways unique to Americans when face critisicism, regardless of its validity. You can predict how many of them are going to respond.

so true, and it was one of the best days in this countries history when the nation said sorry after years of arrogance from a former PM.  You do raise some good points in that post but i think the difference between Americans and the rest of the world (generally...which is stupid of me but meh) is that Americans are seemingly more patriotic about their nation which leads to more (yes, patriots exist everywhere) silly comments than other countries.  There are people in Germany who deny the Holocaust ever happened...seems silly but every country has these silly people.

Ever heard of the word "hooligan"?   That is the term used by Europeans to describe patriotic or over zealous, nationalistic arse holes.   Why?  Because of all the flag waving "hooligans" that go to soccer matches across Europe and say and do some pretty terrible things.    Yeah...all countries, all countries, have these and not just America.

Yes attack others, since you have no way of defending yourself.Whilst all the other countrys and such indeed may have done bad things, they have learned from their mistakes,it was a different mentaly back then ,it's a different one now.

What other countrys did is history, wich is rememberd soo that it may not repeat itself, every bad and good thing is rememberd, look at all the countrys ,they no longer have a desire for war,for expanding their territories.

Now look at america,it keeps instigating wars, keeps provoking millions of deaths, america did more horrible things that what other countrys did,and the fact is that whenever you do something bad,you erase it,soo you will never learn.

America is a country without any real history or culture,no ordeals and no traditions, you attack countrys that have strived much to keep their culture and way of life ,tho they might have done horrible things, they did good too.

America has not done a single good thing ,they only make things worse, the second war in Iraq ,what did it do ?

It caused 9/11 ,irronicly the old american saying springs right to mind "You reap what you sow",you springboarded terrorism to such highs, did you think that bombing and killing children would have no repercursions as long as you claimed you were protecting freedom ?

All in all,I hope americans remain arrogant, cause the years to their final end is ticking close, then humanity can finaly start to become one.

Your arrogance is showing it's true colors now and you continue to say that my country is a bad country.    I bring up other countries histories because other countries made mistakes and continue to make mistakes - the US is no different.   However for you to say what you are saying is so far out there it isn't even worth commenting on.   Because for you to say that America has never done anything good is so totally untrue it makes you look like the one that is being arrogant and ignorant.

It greatly disappoints me when I see people generalizing an entire country. Just because one person acts like utter fool, it does not mean that everyone in that country is a fool as well. However, I tend to agree with a few people here. Most of the world dislikes the US. I am not saying that Americans are idiots. I am stating that a rather large number of countries do not like the US in general. Why? Americans tend to not mind their own business most of the time. Politically, and socially. In terms of gaming experience, I've had a much more pleaseant time gaming with those from the United Kingdom. I've had VERY good times with them. However, when playing in a very American-only environment, my gaming experience tends to diminish. Once again, I am not saying that ALL american players are no fun to play with, and that ALL british players are fun to play with. Not true. I've had good times with American players,  and horrible times with British players. Now, can we quit the generalization and move on please?

    Thank you.

No it is called defending through the use of experiences.   When induviduals such as yourself fail to look back at history and to recognize that man is capable of terrible things no matter what race, creed or religion they maybe - whether in the here and now or in the past - and "you" point fingers at one instead of all - then it is customary to point out that none is free of sin.   I am not religious - but someone was once quoted as saying 'let he who is without sin cast the first stone..' - I like to think this is a good thing for all to learn.   Some just seem to think of them as silly words.  I do not however.   Because they make a lot of sense.

I think its obvious you are just a person who feeds off of sarting big pointless arguments. I am American and I am none of the things you describe as the typical american. I can also proudly say that the majority of people I know do not fit into that category either becuase if they did I would not socialize with them. All the horrible traits you descibe as American only are found in every Nation and every people in the world. I have friends in the gaming community from multiple nations and races and I can say with out any doubt the ones from the UK would be embarassed to think you are a reprasentative of the people in their country.  In short open up your mind becuase I refuse to think that anyone can be as close minded and ignorant as you pretend to be.

This is very compreensive as the north american  entertainment/midia is very strong and self sufficient...

What I find a bit questionable is that most of negative aspects people are saing about North America here and almost everything some north americans are saying about Europe and other countries here are only based on what people see in the TV.... a person can only truly know a country or its people with real experiences.

"Democracy is a government where you can say what you think even if you don't think."

I think the only person in your post that is full of hypocrisy is you. Broomy was making the point that although he and IronZ are both Americans, IronZ does not speak for him. I see no difference between his defence or you getting a bug up your nose due to me as you put it "Speaking for the Native Americans." He is well within his rights to say and feel the things he says. Just as you are well within your rights to disagree with him. However you have no right to self rightously judge him as "less of an American than you." I personaly feel that, that kind of arrogant outlook right there is what has helped feed the America bashing in other countries.

Please point out where i said he was "less of an american"? I am merely pointing out certain gaps in logic, hypocrisy and silly statements used as a means for whats considered a weak response.

Its not hard to point out the fallacy of these types of people. If you were to say America is stupid, and refer to it as "ameri-cants" then, logically the person saying that is the contributing factor to that. Much like a dirty bum complaining that his box smells like crap, ignoring the fact he doesnt wipe and craps right next to it. The point is, why complain when you are the cause or contributing factor. ITs hypocrisy, im sorry you cant deal with that very well.

    Cheers!

Sure, you can pay taxes and have the right to be ignorant. You are also right, you are what you said, an ameri-cant. IF a nation is no better than its people, then you have shown that it definately is a shitty nation going by who you are and what you say. Thankfully you are the minority.

The irony burns doesnt it? There is too much hypocrisy going on in your statements.

Furthermore, the hundreds of thousands of people who come to the US every year from other countries must have a reason for wanting to live here. Surely they must be stupid since you know better than them. I mean who in their right mind would move to a country that has the second highest tax rate in the world...unless it was a great country. NIce try.

"Democracy is a government where you can say what you think even if you don't think."

Other than throwing out insults I can see that your just another copout with nothing to say.  Distract, insult, compare, (now its all the immigrants that come here blah blah,) but never ever ever, respond to the atrocities this country has committed that perhaps some of us have enough courage to face.  People like you, whom I call AMERICAN'Ts, make me sick.

One has to face one's history in order to overcome it.  One has to accept one's past inorder to move forward.  The cowardice I see here from Americants like you is precisely what people through out the world find revolting about this country.  I  would love to say that people like you are in the minority, but unfortunately I cant.  Too many ignorants like yourself exist in this country.  The best one can do is try at all costs to avoid you and hope there aren't too many of you that I need to be in contact with.
