Sam Raimi, director of the Evil Dead and Spiderman films, has been announced to be the director of the upcoming live-action film based on the Warcraft universe in a press release issued by Blizzard Entertainment today.
In addition, Charles Roven, who recently produced the blockbuster hit The Dark Knight, is attached as producer.

What do you think of a live action World of Warcraft film?
Personally, I think I'll watch that one at home, I don't think I want to be in a room full of nerds when the scantily clad Night Elf chick appears on screen!

Live action? really? .. ... ...
it would just be a better straight to dvd animation movie.
I can only see it doing well in box offices just because of the fact that everyones obsessed with fantasy movies at the moment ..
[twilight;harry potter; etc etc ]
PS - All mammals have nipples.
Get over it already.
I believe this will be a disaster movie. I can't think of any way that the art style of WoW will allow it to be live-action and look anything like what I think of when I think WoW. The art style is what I like first and foremost about WoW. Lose that and it doesn't interest me as much.
I prefer animated films over live-action movies. They capture the spirit to me more. I hate the Spider-man movies and Dark Knight style so that means I believe the movie will be even worse than normal. I will probably only see the movie if it happens to be on and I don't feel like finding the remote because I am playing something (like WoW even).
Love the picture!
With Sam leading this movie, I can at least hold out with a little hope that the movie won't be horrible.
well i always like when my favorite stories are told in movies so why not give them a chance if they try hard enough it might work
kudos for trying and lets hope it doest BLOW...too much, ´cause lets face it it probably wont be as monumentaly good as we would want it to be
Seeing as all of Blizzard's cinematics have a very real look to them I can't see why they shouldn't make a live action movie. Even if it's going to be live action it's going to be packed with world class cgi. This is Blizzard we are talking about. They are for computer animation for PC games, what Square Enix is to consoles.
I have barely heard for both the director and producer, so I'm a bit sceptical on that. Imdb show some fine movies on both tho
I have full faith in Blizz on this. They know they can gain or lose a lot with this movie.
I sense another Mario Brothers movie- type fiasco coming on...

I like Raimi and all, but I'm personally tired of the video game/comic book/cartoon to movie trend. I suppose it could be ok, but remember these lovely titles:
Super Mario Brothers
Double Dragon
Street Fighter
Wing Comander
Tomb Raider
Alone in the Dark
BloodRayne
Max Payne
Resident Evil (actually not too bad)
In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale (Burt Reynolds as the king?!!)
Silent Hill
Hitman
Well i did like the first two movies from the Evil Dead series and the original Spiderman movie where very good, so i'm willing to be skeptical that this movie will do ok.

I see nothing in Production or in Development for Sam Raimi.
I don't Buy into it
Cool! This would be a hoot to watch!
I have no problems with most video game movies, but this is just a horridly retarded idea. Warcraft was never about focusing on individuals, so its either gonna be a crappy movie based around just a couple people, or a crappy movie based around a squad of units.

Go go "Raimi cam"!
For me to watch the resulting film the name would have to be: "Drag me to Wow".
Of course it's going to be horrific garbage. There is no incentive for them to put effort into making a good film since people will pay their money to see it regardless. That's why the movie studios keep coming back to the video game movie well - lots of money for little to no effort.
Really?
Let's see how many times "Arthas" appears in the new expansion. His name as well as himself personally.
WoW is very focused on individuals. I hope you were being sarcastic.
I think people are overlooking what (to me) seems obvious.... just because it's a live-action movie doesn't mean they can't capture the WoW "feel" if they do it right. Think about the Lord of the Rings trilogy - it was almost completely live-action (exceptions: Gollum, Fel Beasts, Balrog), and John-Ries Davies who played Gimli looked like a real dwarf while he's actually on the tall side.
If this story isn't BS to begin with, I'd say they'll use actors for humans, night elves, gnomes, dwarves, and blood elves, but the trolls, tauren, orcs, and draeni will be CG.
I hate what Blizzard have done to WoW (haven't played in over 2 years) but I'd definitely be interested in seeing a movie about it.
Honestly, I'd have a nerd-gasm if they had Onyxia.

Don't forget Mortal Kombat lol

I really don't know what to think. I can see myself watching it and think "awesome" but then rate it a 2/5 just to stay true to my image

That is not sam in that image, that's his brother, that is in every one of his movies.

I thought Silent Hill was an excellent movie. Blood Rayne, Dungeon Siege.... they were directed by whats his name? Lu Bol or something. I forget. His movies stink to high heaven.
splat
I can't wait to miss this in the theaters.
Video game + movie = high percentage of suck.
No, I wasnt being sarcastic because I was refering to accual Warcraft, not the storyline raping money grubbing WoW.
The only reason WoW trys to focuses on that crap is cause its trying to make every player feel like they are part of the storyline till they finally down the epic boss and hes back a day later with no affect to the world at all.
Mess with the best, Die like the rest
Alone in the dark, Bloodrayne, Dungeon siege, all Uwe Boll, you also forgot the House of the dead flick, which managed to screw up zombie flicks (near impossible to do, but hey, Uwe Boll is frackin UWE BOLL, he can destroy anything) and of course, Postal. Then Tunnel Rats, which he touched himself that is an ungodly game so don't touch it.
Double Dragon? Eh... could of been worse.
Tomb Raider and Wing commander? Never saw it.
Max Payne and Hitman were alright, worth the rental and thats it.
Silent Hill? I honestly liked it. They managed to keep the psychological horror aspect of it rather well, the story was unique and didn't exactly feel forced. And of course, my buddy PH showed why he's pimp by ripping the clothes, and skin, of a chick with a single pull each.
Super Mario Bros? I like that movie still. You couldn't expect them to do some cartoony version, so they decided to make it more dystopian punk. I liked the Goombas in it, they were mindless still, but were more brutish, and Koopah was interesting. And Luigi finally got the girl :P
Like you said, RE was pretty good too, like I said, its hard to screw up a zombie flick, and considering that, they handled it all pretty well. (Least it didn't have the 50 spinarounds of just a character firing a random weapon they didn't have like house of the dead had)
And Street Fighter? Really? I loved that movie! Bison looked and acted like Bison (unlike that horrible Chun Li flick where he's some blond guy in a suit). Zangief was, well Zangief! And Van Dam as Guile? Badass. I share the same feeling with it as I do the first Mortal Kombat. Both were great, yet their sequels managed to fck up the series big time.
Oh, and Dead or Alive. Funny, good, not amazing, but it blew my expectations for it (except for Ayane, her hair just didn't look natural heh).
As for this movie? Well, Sam is directing it, so its almost guaranteed Bruce "Ash" Cambpell will be in it as well. And so far, his movies haven't disappointed me (the worst was Spidy 3, but c'mon, that little dance "emo" parker does is funny) and always have a particular bit of wit and humor to them. If anything, I want to see if the undead will look like Deadites, and how he'll handle Sylvanas (who always seems to be portrayed as the only hot undead chick) if she shows up in it.
The movie then, at least, will be guaranteed to be funny, good or bad, I know I'll laugh at least.
I thought Silent Hill was an excellent movie. Blood Rayne, Dungeon Siege.... they were directed by whats his name? Lu Bol or something. I forget. His movies stink to high heaven.
Uwe Boll. His movies suck, but I respect him for this:
according to IMDb and Wikipedia
Boll made headlines by challenging his critics to "put up or shut up". In June 2006, his production company issued a press release stating that Boll would challenge his five harshest critics each to a 10 round boxing match. Invitations were also open to film directors Quentin Tarantino and Roger Avary. To qualify, critics had to have written two extremely negative reviews of Boll, in print or on the Web. In 2005, footage from the fights were to be included on the DVD of his upcoming film Postal. On June 20, 2006, Rich "Lowtax" Kyanka stated on Something Awful that he had been invited by Boll to be the first contestant, after Kyanka reviewed Alone in the Dark. The online gambling site GoldenPalace.com decided to sponsor this event, dubbing it "Raging Boll". The list of five critics stepped into the ring with Boll. It was drawn up in late August 2006, featuring Kyanka, Rue Morgue magazine writer Chris Alexander, webmaster of Cinecutre Carlos Palencia Jimenez-Arguello, Ain't it Cool News writer Jeff Sneider and Chance Minter, amateur boxer and website critic. Boll fought and won against all five participants. The first match took place on September 5, 2006 in Málaga, Spain against Carlos Palencia.[28] The others battled on September 23, 2006 at the Plaza of Nations in Vancouver.
he declined the one critic I most wanted to see him fight. Seanbaby of seanbaby.com.
His movies still suck.
I remember that too. I also remember him promising to pay for boxing training since he was the only one who has done some boxing. I then remember that the critics never got said boxing training, so they were at an obvious disadvantage.
Besides, before Germany fixed their loophole, he could of made a movie of him crapping on the face of a baby and still make millions.
