What do you think of a live action World of Warcraft film?
Personally, I think I'll watch that one at home, I don't think I want to be in a room full of nerds when the scantily clad Night Elf chick appears on screen!

Seems like an interesting idea I'll just have to wait and see how it turns out. I'm not so sure on how its going to turn out

1 ) As they've stated in the past, this will be a movie based around Warcraft.  Not World of Warcraft.

2 ) Way to insult your readers about the "nerds" -> night elf.

It could work as a live action:

    Or CGI:

And these were done by semi pros.....people here need to stop trying to be Miss Cleo and wait until we see something more from them.

This movie is going to be amazing. Every one of their video games have powerful plots and good pointsets. I only played wow for about 3 weeks a few years ago so this isnt coming from a fanboy. Their storytelling is powerful, the warcraft lore is deep and has a great plot. Yes it is possible it might be a bomb but what have you ever seen that was released by blizzard to not be of amazing quality. I honestly dont think this movie will be a letdown and people are thinking, live action warcraft? Its not going to be their cinematics its going to be a live action movie. (Think of Lord of the Rings) Thats live action. But only time will tell. I knew this movie was being released 3 years ago when the name was copywrited and it was taken on imdb. So they are making sure to make it good. Like every one of their other released items. Plus they have plenty of money to pour into it and thats what kills a live action movie. Lack of funds. Basically the blockbuster movies cost a million a minute to create. So they will have plenty of money to spare to make it pretty and hire good actors atleast.

Why bother typing this after knowing the fact in the back of your mind you will check it out? No one on the forums that read your message would never know. Grow up.

I personally think that this is full of win. Despite what YOU and YOUR ALL NEGATORY comments says.. this will be one of the biggest box offices ever.. You have no right to immediately become critics of a movie you yet have seen. It doesn't make sense. Why do you guys bother bitchin' already? It amazes me how wannabe gamers are like this.. WoW is one of the best things that have ever happened in the gaming industry -- I frankly don't care if it has gotten you bored, wasted your money, and/or how immature those people in the game are.. You represented a great deal of similitaries just talking like this. Fuckin' hypocrites.

Because forums and the internet is for complaining and bitching. Atleast thats what most of the immature children that post on them feel.

    ....

I agree that Blizzard comes up with good lore and characters and subplots in their games... Not to mention they've put out some of the most unforgettable cinematics in the history of computer gaming... But you seem to overlook the fact that those story elements only look solid when taken in the context of *gaming*.

We do go ahead and say some games have brilliant stories, because they follow the storytelling techniques of novels and games after a fashion. But the truth is, they are usually so full of tired cliché and obvious plot mechanics that they would be shot down if they were actually movies or novels. In games there's always that interactive experience that's going to fill those gaps in your storytelling. Without it, most gaming stories would ring hollow. (The sole exception that I can think of is Planescape: Torment)

So if this movie turns out to be really good (which it can with Raimi helming it), I think it'll be thanks to the scriptwriters and the director, and not the IP itself. A novel or a movie script is much much more than it's premise. We really need to lay off the "high concept" way of evaluating stories or the whole storytelling culture will go the way of Michael Bay.

    LOL!

Raimi's movies are decent. Plus, if you stick the WoW logo on a movie and it'll do well. So I foresee the WoW movie doing quite well regardless of director (excluding Uwe Boll).

I wonder if they are going to include in the movie the spammers/beggars in the cities or even wait for a couple of hours for the level grinding

Lol, I think the question that we must ourselves is : who didn't think they would do that some day ?

Hah, well, now that's a movie I won't go to the theatres to see, guaranteed ;)

First off, one poster said Blizzard should handle this themselves.  In case you're not paying attention, that's exactly what they're doing.  Blizzard hired Sam Raimi to direct, Blizzard attached Charles Roven to produce, and Blizzard allowed us all to be able to sleep at night when they gave a resounding "Oh, Hell No!" to Uwe Boll when he asked to direct this movie.

Now, personally,  I agree, this movie would perhaps be better if done in Blizzard's amazing CGI style.  I've been saying for years that I would love to see a whole movie like that.  It's not just the frozen throne cinematic that was amazing, the very first cgi cinematic from WoW blew my socks off.  When I first heard about this movie, I was under the impression that that's what it was going to be, and I was excited.

That doesn't mean that I don't think Sam can do a good job.  Most of those of you bashing the Spidey movies are, to be honest, likely lying through your teeth, following the crowd, bashing the whole franchise just because of the third movie, when in fact you probably greatly enjoyed the first 2 movies.  I know I did, in fact I thought the 2nd one was the best of the three.  Regardless of your, and my, opinions, Sam did a mostly excellent job in keeping true to the "feel" of Spidey.   And I think he can do the same with Warcraft.

As for other video game movies you guys have mentioned, and said you liked, I too enjoyed some of them.  I enjoyed Double-Dragon, but still recognize that it was a crap translation.  The movie companies throw these movies out, slap the brand on em, and think that's enough to satisfy us and make some money.  Blizzard isn't doing that, imho, they're trying to give us the best movie possible.  And be honest, Warcraft has always had a light-hearted, funny side mixed with it's fantasy, and Sam Raimi is good at that.

I don't see this being a big hit.  I've grown out of WoW, but I would be interested in seeing it just to see what they can do with the storyline.  I am skeptical because of the failure rate we have seen from video games turned movies.  Good luck, I think you will need it on this one.
