I'm just getting interested in Champions. I read a little, watched a few Youtube clips, and everything sounds great. Until you come to the microtransactions part of it all.
I have very little experience with this option but I DON'T think I'm gonna like it. I understand you never have to use this feature but I'll always have the feeling of what's the point of accomplishing anything, as others in your group will be purchasing everything. As I was watching a good clip on Youtube you can see the " microtransaction hot keys " staring you right in the face, just waiting for you to hit them, believe me they stand out. I'm not cheap and I have the money, but I have a major problem with stealing, corruption, and trickery. and I call this trickery.
Last month I was getting ready to go back to one of my favorites D&D Online until I found out that you have a choice now to pay or microtransaction. Well maybe both can co-exist but I like all things equal or not at all !
So how much is champions gonna cost, and is their a monthly charge along with the micro-trick ?

was it really necessary to start a new thread? there are countless numbers of those on this topic. you can find few of those on the first page of this section.
I think the bigger issue may turn out to be the console-friendly gameplay. It scared me when I read it'll be played best on a 360 controller.
about a necessary as it was for you to reply. Is that me sayin neither was or both? You decide!
Back on track!
I'm having that same internal struggle too. I'd gladly pay more per month for quality content but I have trouble accepting MTs. This is where I am with it now after much consideration; The game looks great and if it wasn't for the MTs I'd be all about it. Therefore, I'm going to cautiously give it a shot and hope Cryptic is true to their word that MTs aren't going to be a gamechanger. I am also trying to see the other side of the fence for MTs as mini expansions. Really it will all come down to how Cryptic handles it. I am hoping for the best.
The only 'trick' here is if you make it one - Cryptic have always put forward that 1) The MTs are NOT the main source of income for the game (ie it's not going to be forced at you because otherwise they don't make any money, the subs WILL cover the normal costs of the MMO) and 2) 99.9% of the MTs will be items from within the game..
I see this as more of a 'cutting it off at the head' when it comes to goldfarmers as we all know with these 'want it now' gamers they DO go out and buy gold to get the elite rewards stright away, so instead Cryptic are offing them the same option legitmitly... To me the system works on a second level as the 'want to now' crowd can indead have it 'now' but at a cost, but then they'll probly get bored and move onto another MMO, really Cryptic and the long term players don't lose out as really you've got all you can out of that person, so it's no trick, it's a busness idea.
The core question is does not purchasing MTs affect your personal gameplay? the answer is no, theres a lot of people out there that will play the game as a MMO not a e-peen extender, so you wont be 'underpowered' or left out, it's just the case of would your rather pay for the playtime and earn that item or have it then and now and buy it?
Bring on the WARRRRGGHH!
If you don't wanna use the microtransactions, then don't. So what if others are using it, it won't effect your gameplay one bit.

It is a part of forum etiquette to not start new threads on topics that are discussed on Page 1.
It is also a common practice to handle them with "Use the search function" approach.
yet your post neither changed the fact that the post IS here now nor contributed to the discussion. What your reply did was ensure the post lived on! Participate in the discussion or not, but why not leave the moderating to the pros? (who actually have the tools to do so)
Annnnyway, as to the point of MTs not changing one's gameplay, I do absolutely hope that is the case! The game looks like a winner and I'd hate for MY own enjoyment of it to be negatively affected by purchased ingame effects. I suppose that could only realistically rear its ugly head in pvp, so we shall see!
Now that's using too much common sense, plus it's not as if this is a new concept, you'd think ppl would have been able to figure out that just becuase the game has an item shop doesn't mean it's got to be used by the general populus, only those with the extra money to waste.
DDOU's MT system is just fine. I think as the OP you just have an irrational hatred of MT.

I will not be playing because or microtransactions if they involve any virtual items. I believe microtransactions only belong in a game for character transfers, name changes, and other things that are service type transactions. Once a game adds an item shop then to me it is no longer worth even starting playing. I play games to play them for items and experience, not to buy those things with cash. Definitely will not be plaing Champions Online with that garbage in it.
Especially expecting their players to pay to play. If you are paying to play the game you should get every item included with the game. If you don't then you are doing your self a disservice by giving them your money. Support games that don't milk their players.
Is it me, or does anyone else play an MMO for fun? Everyone nowadays seems so concerned about items in the game. The developers have stated numerous times that the mt items are mainly fluff and the majority are available in game. If the point of a game is to have fun, who cares what the other guy/gal is buying with their rl money as long as it doesn't affect you?
This may make me sound old, but I miss the old days of UO/EQ/Meridian 59 when people had fun with others, not see who can race to the top and get the most uber 1337 loot.
sigh....
Cheers!

Heard about PLEXes or timecodes in EVE? you buy them for money and sell them for millions of ingame money that you can use to buy everything. Everything's legal, using the tools from the developer.
Game's totally ruined? Population dwindling? Let me laugh.
Hay,
The microtransacation are gonna effect game play. just watch this youtube clip, you will see three categories that you can choose from, all seem important. ( 3/4 into the clip )
***Purchase travel power
*******Purchase super stats
*******Purchase talents

Did you even pay attention in that video? He was leveling up and buying his new powers, not with real money, but with the points he accumulated by leveling. Next time, pay attention.
Cheers!

hehe...this post is full of epic fail.

Wow, it all just goes right over your heads doesn't it?

after reading mulitple posts on this subject, it seems the vast majority of the "complainers" are worried if X player is going to have cooler items than they are and make them feel less "uber". i always play a game to have and have a good time with my friends and the people i meet in game. not to worry about who has the hottest gear etc... if that is all the complainers are worrying about, then they should quit MMOs period.

Not really. Still nobody has answered how other people using MT effects your gameplay. Especially if all the items that can be bought, can be acquired in game. So, I stick to my original statement.

this
Did you ever stop to think that if they don't go with the MT payment model that there wouldn't be any extra fluff items available at all?
Or they would just have to wait to put them all in a paid expansion 6-12 months down the road?
Personally I would rather have the option to buy a blue flame instead of the normal red one right now, through MT, then having to wait a year until the expansion comes out.
"There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer."
and there lies the whole problem with your post. You basically say you wont try the game because of a feature you have little experiance with and are thus making judgements on something you have very little information on.
If it was me i would say Champions should be the first RMT game people try (as it is a AAA title) and then and only then should they make any judgement on whether they like RMT or not.
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
The RMT is not an issue by itself. The RMT on top of a subscription is.
I never liked gold farmers, never bought anything from them. If the developers want to become gold farmers themselves, more power to them. That doesn't mean I'm going to like it any more than I liked the presence of the unauthorised gold farmers. Just because they "legalised" gold farming, doesn't mean that I have to approve it with my wallet.
It will be more rational to wait for them to release news regarding what is available inside the item shop, than come to a conclusion so early.
Unless they said epic weapons and armor is available for $5 each, than yes, let the tears flow...
RIP Orc Choppa
You just made Picard /facepalm at Warp speed.
