Here's what I love about AOC:
- The combat system (shielding, combos, directional attacks, active strafing)
- The game world (from the pirate infested Tortage to the Cimmerian hills of Ymirs Pass)
- The Lore ("low fantasy", based on the works of R.E.H and its lack of orcs pleases me)
- The graphics ( visuals aren't everything, but it does add to experience)
- The guild systems (guild cities, player stats buffs, battle keeps)
- The Music (Helene Bøksle vocals, the epic feel of every song track)
- The destiny quest (I very much enjoyed my various destiny quests on my way to 80, and killing a god is always fun)
- Fatalities (blood, guts and gore...just how I like it)
- PVP ( Fury is a server of ganking, its true...but when teamed up and fighting back and owning the gankers its a great feeling)
- Class diversity ( each class is very unique, from the traditional tank to the outright crazy transforming demon)
and much more...but I think will do for now
There is so much hate on these forums, most of which is mindless rubbish (I am not a new AOC player, I have played since beta)...despite some minor and major flaws for me AOC is very fun to play...more so than any other MMO on the market .
So take a break from the moaning, what about AOC did you/ do you like?

I agree I liked most things about Conan.
Honestly I left due to life circumstances, but contemplate going back.
I still cringe at the amount of racism by players in the game, probably main reason I don't go back.
Racism? Honestly I can say I have never seen this in any global chat...and if there was, those people would have been banned.
welcome to the minority, most people disagree with your points greatly...I'm talking about the people that voted with thier wallets and time, gave the game a chance and quit. I'm not going to waste any more time on an advertisement troll.
EDIT: whatever the combat is dumbed down because they needed to for this game to work on consoles so you get way way fewer abilities than any other MMO, it is easy mode...blocking, shielding, and straffing are a joke in this. Class X usually ends on one direction so put your shields there...easy, blocking drains to much stamina to balance casters who use no stam vs. melee who do...funcom was to lame to have energy drain. Straffing, lmao 2 people will wiff every shot when done right and it is not working as intended today. Basically the combat sucks, everyone knows this - it is dumbed down worse than World of Warcraft or any other MMO. Activate ability xx GCD simon says 1 xx GCD simmon says 2 Vs. activate ability, XX global cooldown think of your next ability.
The rest of your post was superficial, graphics, a small MMO about the size of a prison cell, a premise of a writer who killed himself after writing AoC stories, and music(I listen to pandora.com while playing). Generic classes with no balance, what type of MMO has worthless healing. Generic art, everything looks the same from level 1-80...this is the most linear MMO ever made.
So your point is this game is more artsy than playable, thank you.

Firstly I'm not an troll, I posted MY feelings on the game and I too voted with my time and money...and I still am. If you would have read the last part of my post I was not asking for a rebuttal but for players who enjoy the game to post what they enjoy about it...not some grizzled old forum troll out to seek revenge, by bad mouthing a game constantly.
OK you say combat is "dumbed" down, compared to what exactly? You may disagree with the current balance of the mechanics but its undeniable that the mechanics used in AOC take more interaction than most MMO's. Your comment on blocking draining too much stamina is completely outdated like most of that rant, no classes within the game has all combos ending in a certain area so that is rubbish...switching shields in pvp, takes alot of tough and speed.
The rest of my post is superficial? quests are superficial, guild mechanic's are superficial and so on? I don't agree.
The zones are the size of a prison cell? you really are deluded, never in a zone have i felt "boxed" in...they may be zones but they are big areas. But it does not offer the expansive landscapes of wow, but the visual trade-off is worth it IMO.
So the creator of the lore killing himself, is a bad mark on the game? GTFO.
I like AOC's musical score, apparently you don't.
Worthless healing? go do a dungeon without a healer..you cant. then its not worthless is it? AOC from the start was trying to stop the idea of a "healbot", they wanted to make all classes more fun to play.
So my point is the more artsy than playable? wrong, you obviously missed the point of the whole post.
I like all the points you listed. What does it for me is the setting/lore. I'm a big fan of Conan for biased reasons. I like the unique classes, HoX is a very fun class. Pretty neat being a caster with a big sword.
Good points about the game.

* Multiple hits on multiple targets from Weapon arc swing in Melee.
So convenient!
And of course the Lore!
The first time I played through tortage and its story is one of the most fun times I have had in any MMO I have ever played.
after playing MMOs for years, this one has caught my attention. Now if only they place player Housing..
The melee combat system with it's combos, collision detection, directional attacks, splash damage and multiple hits and dodging is where AoC really shines for me, but in general I approve of all the OPs points. Also there are a lot of small things, like some of the of the crazier quests you are set out to do which really gives me a good laugh.
"You give me old 100 gold, I give you 90 NEW gold!!" LOL
"You give me old 100 gold, I give you 90 NEW gold!!" LOL
Best quest line ever in a MMO to be honest.
Playing: Battlefield - Bad company (Xbox360) Arma2, DFO (PC)
On my radar: TSW, MO
MMO's played: SWG (pre cu/cu), WoW, AoC, WAR, DFO, Planetside
MMO's that I have tested: Lotro, L2, Aion, Ryzom

I was so confused for a few minutes, lol. AoC has alot of funny quests that you get to do.
"You give me old 100 gold, I give you 90 NEW gold!!" LOL
Lol yeah I rember this quest line in the noble district, very funny.
/Agree
The melee pvp is one of the places where this game really shines. I definetely lean towards pvp'ing in any mmo, and that's why I play Age of Conan.
"nerf rock, paper is working as intended."

Cracks me up today still.

Very clever quest they did there. The game has shaped up nicely with the latest changes and is as good a game as most. I enjoy it and have fun playing. I absolutely think the music and, of course, graphics are top notch and the combat is active, which is a pleasant change from queuing up attacks like in the more traditional MMO style.
I wish they would add an alternate starting area as I am tired of Tortage but the first couple of times it was great.

Yeah Tortage is great, each class type giving a diffrent perspective on the how the story plays out was great. But I do agree that they should add a new starter zone or even expand the areas within tortage.
I am really enjoying my return to AoC, and agree with many of the OP points. Truth be told, I am a -open world design- fanboy and thought I never could enjoy Hyboria like it was presented by Funcom. In closed Beta I didnt appreciate it, but now, it doesnt bother me that much.
There are acouple additional of small things I like about AoC the OP didnt mentioned, like;
Two things I would like to see in AoC in the very near future...
All in all, I like what AoC has become. (kudos funcom) Me and my Priest of Mitra are staying put for acouple of months to see how it progresses...
I love this game too. Breathing world, brutal combat and great lore. Only thing I hate is that this game doesn't support ATI.
AoC is better than i thought it would be by far . I basically started it when i got fed up with warcraft earlier this year and have been playing it as a stopgap till Aion is released . I love it too and will certain return if Aion does not measure up or when i feel like a break from it at some point in the future . A couple of thing i would change . shield of the risen needs to be applied when your obtaining a quest so you can actually read what it says without being ganked . also the ranger class needs to be nerfed and penaltys need to be applied for attacking someone thats of significantly lower level than you .
Really? The more attacks/skills the more advanced combat?
That is not true at all. AoCs combat do have one merit no other MMO have: If you weapon touches your target you hit, if not you miss. The rest of the combat is still the same boring stuff we have in every game but numbers of kinds of attacks does not make a game better, I play EQ2 now and my Swashie have something like 35 different attacks which I most often spam in the same direction.
We do need a totally new combat system that is more realistic, faster and more fun than all the current systems. But AoC at least nailed the hit system, too bad that you can't hit specific bodyparts in it.
If anyone ever tried Kendo or some other form of melee fighting you know how unrealistic combat the MMOs have. It is time for a change.
Saying AoCs combat system is simpler than the rest is wrong, It is not. It is not enough either but it is a small step in the right way. I hope the games were you can make a macro and just click one button over and over are a thing of the past soon. AoCs combat is too slow pasted for my taste also, there Guildwars shows how a fast paced combat should be.
The combo system itself is one part of the system, you must attack based on the players/npcs directional shields. If you hit on a unshielded side you will inflict maxium damage, if you attack on a side with all shields you will do around 20% of your possible damage. This for me made combat alot more interactive and enjoyable.
While that sounds really good, in reality it's nothing special.
Can you give an example on any mmo that has a 'special' combat system? I don't disagree, it becomes to easy really fast. Still, imagine AoC without it.

I can. This is probably one way I would balance Casters vs Combo users, to remove 1 or 2 shields from casters. Bear in mind, I havent played AoC enough yet, but this tweek seems logical to me...

But then the system would still there. What I meant was picture the PvE-combat without the shields and positional attacks, it would become incredibly boring.
