Get Into closed Beta! - It's not that hard!

Hey guys, I just sent in a Beta applicaition last night, and they accepted me already. If you haven't tried isgning up for one, just do it.

Anyway, good part about being in closed beta, is you get 1500 cash shop points + plus reset for when it goes live.

And so far for Beta, I give it a solid 8/10

    I tried a few weeks back and never got an invite.  Guess I'm not worthy ;_;

I just signed up for the beta so we shall see. It looks interesting.

I finally got a key from Ten Ton Hammer, downloaded the game, updated my account and when I go to login it says my account is not subscribed to ddo (which clearly it is I even checked my account 100 times).  I can't even login to the ddo site. Awesome job Turbine! I totally igve up with betas for now, it really has become more of a hassle then what the game is really worth.

Are you sure you dowloaded the beta client (Lamania) and not the retail client? I think the retail client have a dragon picture when loggin in and then beta client have a monk. Its always easy to assume that its the companies fault when something isnt working.

    DDO died tonight.

Is it ironic that it even though the date was pushed to September 9th that tonight was the original date - what was the eastern time when the servers failed?

p.s. this is starting to remind me of a telemarketing scheme i worked for who mysteriously moved everything in the middle of the night...

DDO servers crashing should never be a shock. They do that on a regular basis since the move to a cheap server farm.

Good thing they are getting new servers for DDO:unlimited then. :)  But still, what does this have to do with the topic?

Yeah, I have a feeling he is trying to log in on the live servers instead of the Lamannia server. I do this by mistake from time to time.

Only problem is they have not said they are moving them out of the cheap farm they are still in, which they are likely stuck with contractually.

Have they said they will be replacing the old ones? Or just adding new hardware to them?

They've written they're buying new servers. It happened for the first time about a month ago in the beta.

I dunno, it's quite fun with a group, as I've mentioned before.  Without a group, not so much.

Actually I found that soloing in DDO can be alot more fun than in other MMOs it just takes more time and effort to find ways to solo. Soloing in most other MMOs is just "kill me 10 boars and bring back their hides" in different variations.

    (sorry about double post)

Im not sure what exactly they are doing but the Beta server have been working very well and  during the stress tests I have got very little lag even playing from EU so they must have done something good.

I know but are they replacing the old ones or buying new ones to add more servers and reduce the stress on the ones they would keep?

Topic is relating to being able to play the game as being "not that hard".  Can't get into the game to play if there's a reputation for poor server stability with the game sporadically being offline.

If I were taking about biskets and tea you might have had some validity in claiming I was offtopic.  Fact is - if the servers go offline it's VERY hard to get in.

I hope that helps you understand the relevance.  ;)

Have they said how long the downtime will be? Removal and replacement of complete servers is generally not done while the game is up and is not a simple or fast process. I figured they would be adding hardware not just replacing it. Do not be surprised if this replacement causes a delay at some point.

PS: Can someone link the DDO forums post about the servers? I did a search and I am not finding anything.

    Posted by Tolero here:

"We've thrown multiple things at the lag this time around. I believe Glin said it best that lag is like an invisible moss and you work to make conditions where it doesn't want to start creeping in, but sometimes you find places where it goes "ooo this is a nice spot to grow /multiplymultipymultipy"... in the case of the lag we've so far:

    - Bought brand new server hardware

    - Made changes in the monster's brains and combat interaction

    - Increased XP in optionals to encourage the killing-off of more baddies

    - Added dungeon alert to regulate performance-heavy behaviors where applicable

    - Pounced on the edge-case dungeons that were super out of wack performance wise

Does it mean that no moss could ever grow ever again? Unlikely, but if we find more moss we'll scrub it out as necessary."
