    Best: FFXI

Worst: World of Warcraft (tried to think of something worse to avoid the cliche, but I just couldn't).

I have no intention of quitting games.  I just see no reason for yelling in them.  And the "I pwn'd u" part...not sure what point you were trying to make.  I just stated I got tired of seeing said by immature players in the WoW general chat.  Thanks for the welcome, although I've been here for a while.

People yelling in games is pretty normal. pretty much for every game. There will always be jackasses around that take a game to serious and will often take it out on there raiders/members.

My point is people saying it in WoW should not force you to unsubscribe, there are many good guilds in WoW, you just have to avoid the bad. Which is rather easy. And to further show what I was getting at, ever played a FPS? RTS? hell any other MMO? The pwned thing goes on in every game. You see it more often in WoW because zones are broadcasted, not just a chat bubble floating above your head.

And if you was truely that tired of seeing it in general. Leaving the channel often solves that problem.

    same for me

Or....I can quit a game I didn't enjoy and was tired of the immaturity.  I don't play RTS's, so again your point went flying over my head.  Speaking of sensitive...I think you have a soft spot for WoW....Sweet.

No no no, you quit due to stress remember?

Using every form of game, or just any mulitplayer game in general as an example, to show that heavy immaturity exists in every single one is quite complicated.

I have a soft spot for logic.

Best community: Three-way tie between EVE, SWG and Ryzom.

EVE had (and surely still has) plenty of morons, asshats and lowlifes, but there are also just as many skilled, intelligent, helpful, and just plain awesome to be around people in EVE's community. Even people who are your in-game enemies could be "worthy opponents" and enrich your gaming experience, playing cat-and-mouse with them in-game and then reliving the good times on the official forums. EVE has it all, that's why even the bad parts of the community are good: Without them the game would feel incomplete.

SWG had a great community (pre-NGE anyway, not sure about now) because of the interdependence of characters. Since you had to rely on other characters for various crafting materials, crafted items, buffs, services, and certain other unique skills, and because you couldn't do everything with your own main character and alts, everyone had a niche and it really brought the community together in many wonderful ways. There was even plenty of factional patriotism to be found. The sandbox nature of the world also catered to many different types of players, so there were always new friends to meet and different activities to engage in.

Ryzom... well, I don't know why it has (had?) such a good community, but it does. There were lots of international players, and everyone was friendly, welcoming and helpful. Sadly, I started playing Ryzom a month before the game's servers were shut down (it's been up and running again for a while now), and I haven't been back since, so that's all I can say about it.

Worst community: Tie between WoW and WAR.

I don't have to explain WoW, everyone knows the crap-stained dregs of humanity populate its servers. WAR's community is better in general, but no one ever talked to anyone else outside of their guild for the two months I was playing (I started in open beta), and it just seemed devoid of meaningful interaction.

That said, in both WoW and WAR, if you find a really good and active guild the community will seem much better, but the general communities were terrible in my experience.

My best community experience will have to be: Silkroad online. I greatly enjoyed that game, plus grouping was fun.

ALSO, Gates to heaven, which was literally my first MMO and I thought it had a great community.

    Worst: WOW

To be fair, the community in wow is HUGE meaning it attracts all sorts of people, good and bad. Don't get me wrong though, there are lots of nice people on WoW as well but more times than naught, the "bad" sort of people are more and plentiful than the "good" people.

Best: Ryzom - didnt play long, but I give that to them

Worst: Wow - ninja looting, insulting, elitism everywhere

The point "wow has a bigger audience" doesnt work, since the servers are limited in players. The percentage of unwanted players in wow is much bigger than every other MMO i tried.

Your logic is failing you.  I never said I quit because of stress.  I just said it was relieved when I did quit.  I think we have derailed this thread long enough.  My apologies to the OP.

"So you generally stick to games that cause stress?"

I'll just simply laugh at this question, because that is all it deserves.  I'll bid you a good night and leave it at that.

Edit: Glad you enjoyed it, and are unwilling to answer. Cause I sure as hell know you didn't quit due to immaturity. If that was the case you wouldn't be on mmorpg.com.

My best was of course Asheron’s Call 2.

Someone was ready to greet me, guild me, and teach me on day one.

(Actually there were a group of people there that day)

Probably World of Warcraft for the worst.

Someone seeking to duel me in the Human staring area and a guild that didn’t have DKP ended up wanting to closet introduce it.

Best: LotrOs community is very mature and friendly but not the most social. I have been playing the DDO:Unlimited beta and was surprised to meat such a helpfull, fun and social community. Most PUGs I have joined have been really good and people chat/talk all the time.

Worst: Cant say i have really encountered a Bad community in MMOs. Sure there was alot of immature chat in WoW but didnt bother me that much. WAR is probably the most anti-social MMO I have played, no one ever speaks. AoC was simillar but atleast you get some insults and profanites after being ganked...

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

    Best.. UO

Yes, there was the reds, and the griefers, but there was also the anti-pks, and those that would come to defend player-towns from attack. Its was a great community, more like a "living world" than any online game i have played.

    Worst.. WoW.

Not even a close second imo.

Best: Lord of the Rings Online -- at least, on the EU-RP server Laurelin. Awesome community there.

Worst: World of Warcraft -- Eh. I don't think any explanation is necessary.

Yes, there are some good WoW players, and every game has its dickheads. But I think that, in many people's opinion, WoW has the highest ratio of dickheads relative to other MMMORPGs they've played. Thus, it's among the worst of the bunch, even though its community has both good and bad like every other MMORPG.

As you say, WoW's official forum is definitely a filthy sewer full of turds. That's fact, not opinion... even WoW fans will agree on that point. That also doesn't reflect well on WoW's community.

best: SWG and LOTRO, though, just in the past two weeks, LOTRO seems to be in decline.... i've been playing for two years, never had any random spar attempts.... i've had four in the last two days.... who plays LOTRO to pvp????

worst: WoW, my god.... just christ. the greastest feat about WoW to me, has been keeping the majority of jackass' confined to one game.....

I see WoW bashing is still what all the cool kids do in the internets.

    Anyway:

    Best:  Hands down pre-nge swg.

Worst:  Can't really say any one community was worse than any other, at least of the mmo's I've played.  However, if one was to judge a community by the actions and words of its players in forums like this, then no doubt it would be Darkfall.

Edit: LOTRO has a really great community too.

All MMO communities. But that's more or less the drawing factor to them. There colorful. From the mouthy to the quiet. From the brightest to the darkest. Socializing is apart of the game. People tend to forget and seem to think it's more about 1 sided opinions. Live and let live.

Don't get butthurt and lash out just because most of the posters in this thread list WoW as having the worst community.

I don't even think most the people in this thread have a problem with WoW's community when playing the game, if they did. I just think they hate on WoW because they blame the way the direction of the genre has gone and it's fashionable to hate on WoW now cause it's popular.

Most of my friends have played WoW or still play WoW and they're all nice people. I know entire guilds I used to be who went to WoW and they're nice people. Every EU server I've been on has had really nice people where I've never come across someone that everyone describes on this forums. Infact every server is packed with people making it much easier to find groups than other mmorpgs at any level, not just the end game. WoW's community also has loads of amazing people who creates great videos and other kinds of media. You're not gonna get on with everyone so just like anyother online game, you'll meet people you don't like.

And FYI WoW didn't ruin the genre it's a great game for what it's done. The problem is with all the developers creating clones ever since and thats not WoW's fault.

Duplicate knock offs have been made since Everquest and UO. WoW is one of the knock offs that appealed to the most people.

best would easily be Eeverquest Online Adventures for the ps2, just an all around amazing community.i quit for awhile went back to check it out, got in a lowbie group on a different server (my old one was COMPLETELY dead) had a nice time grinding and chatting. at the end of the grind pretty much everyone in the gorup contributed to my newbie character. one was an armor crafter another jewelry, other weapons each hooked me up with some lowbie crafted gear to get me going and to grow into. i never ask for hand outs they just offered, originally offered money but i wouldn't take it..lol

the VERY worst would have to be AoC Tyranny server, the community as a whole was just horrible. racisist jokes, faul mouthed lil kids in global, nonstop ganking in lowbie zones. ask a simple question the answer EVERYTIME was the clasic "your mom"

second would be WoW alot of the people i interacted with was nice (tho all of us in my guild was formerly of EQOA same server same guild like 30 of us).  and as we know you don't need to interact with people much in wow if not in your own guild. eventually i started playing Horde got into a nice guild that eventually progressed into a raiding guild  where we learned our GM was a complete tyrant..lol in groups like 5 mans and what not he was nice and we all got along great. get him in a raid and jesus its like dr jekyll and mr hyde. wasn't allowed talking during raids, he'd even mute us during them. if things wasn't going perfect (but we was still having fun) he'd go nuts "you guys F****** suck, my grandma could out heal everyone of you, i should kcik every healer and get some noob in greens they could out heal you" blah blah blah. every other word on vent was F***, even if it was going perfect and we was having a good time in one of the easy mode ones we already learned he's still be screaming. and i mean SCREAMING in vent his mic would crackle. i wasn't a healer i would just mute him during raids. if i was a healer i would have quit the first day if he talked to me like taht. i think the healers put up with it because we progressed very fast, 1 -2 days tops learning a fight before a boss was down. usually down a boss, go try the next ,fail that night, the next we'd have it beat. one day our RAID LEADER set up a raid for Magtheradon after they made it easy. we never bothered with it before so figured we'd go in and goof off in there. the GM said no we can't he wanted to later or what ever, some one asked "so we can't go on raids the raid leader sets up" then the GM kicked him just for askin and goes "ok anyone else?" all you see is MASS exodus from the guild, every last person /gquits..lol we reformed 5 min later with every single person that was in the guild minus the former GM..lol the former GM had his "Phases" we called it and when he hit  "Phase Ten" tahts when he'd be screamin in vent and frothin at the mouth..lol so the new guild was called "phase ten", but he was the worst player i came across in any game tho. but the server as a whole wasn't THAT bad but did have the usual "Barrens chat" and sheep spouting the daily norris jokes.

WoW's problem is because its so huge, theres many more oppurtunities for stories about douche bags to come out.  I know theres a lot of asshats in WoW but the number of good and helpful people I've run across in game far outweighs the bad.
