Ok game, ruined by it's community

Is it just me, or is the Aion community nearly worse than the WoW one? The only difference is that while the Wow community is just childish, Aion's seems to be additionally pompus and petty, looking to belittle anyone they can.

Unfortunately you get less than admirable quality people in whatever game you play. It shouldnt have surprised you.

Played : WOW, LOTRO, COH/COV, EQ2, SWG, and WAR.
    Playing EVE Online and AOC.
    Wtg for SW:TOR and WOD

    Um...

What are you talking about?  I've barely seen anyone speaking, let alone slagging on anyone else.  Most everyone I see is running around doing their own thing.  All...several thousand of them, it seems.

Maybe he means in PvP. I saw friendly people spam-yelling, "Attack [%target]". Nice community.

I have yet to come across a person that has acted that way. Then again I'd personally rather have a a community with "elitist" type people than a bunch of illiterate 10 year olds.

'Community' is the people you associate with in game.  Just like in High School when there are 3-5k people to associate with how many were your close friends?  That is your community.  If you can't make friends in an online game then I don't know what to tell you.  If you think you have the right to judge an entire community then you are a toolbag.  Community is who you hang out with, and there are potential friends, enemies, and jerkoffs in every game you play or venue of life.

eh... for what I've been able to tell so far I think Aion will have a much higher than standard community.

I agree. So far in my playtime I haven't run into anyone like that. Rather, I was working on a few quests, and without any prompting, a couple of others nearby actually invited me to a party and started working together. You know how many players in WoW (for example) would rather spam their AoEs and macros just to kill one mob that 20 other people are waiting for? A lot. I've had to deal with them plenty of times.

Aion's community, at least in terms of the betas, seems to be far from this.

That's true. But going by that logic, every game has a good community. Can you really say that with a straight face?

Let's say you have a good core group of friends you make in every game you play. Because there are nice, mature people in every MMO. Let's say you play two MMOs - both have some type of large-scale chat (world-wide, or multi-zone; it has many people in it at once, i.e. Trade chat). If you're playing with your good group of friends who you only associate with, but MMO A has a very small amount of stupid, immature spamming in that large-scale chat while MMO B is flooded with it almost every night, you'd say MMO B has a good community?

Hard to believe. While you can't "judge" the whole community because you don't know every single person, you can easily make assumptions based on what you see and hear. If you don't, you're just ignoring an aspect of the game that most people do consider when playing.

Personally I think every MMO should have an unlimited ignore list, so that you could live in Prof's happy world and only have to deal with your friends.

I've noticed that the community is pretty horrible as well; people will try to harvest your nodes while you're harvesting them, tag your mobs and refuse to group leading to one person killing another's quest mob. In WoW, most people will at least ask to group from my experience if there is competition around the same mob/resources. EQ2's community was ridiculously awesome, but my best community experience has been FFXI so far: Best bunch of people I had ever met in an online game (although I hate the game... it was indeed the people I had played with that kept me playing for the months I had).

Okay lets start by... WHAT GAME DOES NOT HAVE PEOPLE THAT STEAL YOUR NODES AND KILLS?!

Now that I am done yelling...

The game is in beta. The beta community hasn't had the oppurtinity to get completely owned by people that don't do those type of things and people in beta are generally focused on themselves because they want to see as much of the game as fast as they can. I will say however forum communities are all the same. Forums are full of fanbois and fangirls and you just have to sift through all the stuppidity to get a real answer to anything. I don't think you should judge a game by the lucky what... 3k in the beta?

the game ruined itself... it's just wow .5 with boring combat

The difference is the Aion community attended a seminar put on by the Eve Online community. Pompous and petty, that pretty much sums up the Eve player base.

I have said it before, and I will probably say it many more times in the future.

PvP games draw a certain segment of the population that can only be labled psychopaths. They live only to destroy other peoples enjoyment as a means of boosting their own egos. PvP games give these people a woody. It is giving them a liscense to engage in all the most anti-social activites that they thrive upon.

I do not imply that everyone that plays PvP falls into this category, but it does not take many to destroy a game. Once the community has been destroyed, the people who do not choose to deal with the psychopaths will leave, leaving these people behind to feed on each other until the next PvP game releases.

Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do.

Last beta i ran into a few buttheads but today was just the opposite, i logged on and was grouped in about 10 minuetes, played for 4 hours, logged to eat got back on and played another hour or so with someone needing the same quest i was working on. So today was great, tomarrow who knows?  If you dont know anyone in the real world who is playing a legion might  help, im in a smaller legion and have only played with two guildies but have talked with them and they are great people.   And as  for Aionsource, it is pretty bad there.

It's like playing with a bunch of Brazilians/Malaysians, if you don't know what I mean then you haven't been around long enough.

I dont know about Brazillians/Malaysians but ive seen the WOW crowd and hope you are wrong....was hoping the bunny hoppers i saw were just a fluke.

What you have to remember is that experiences with the community varies person to person so while your initial experiences were bad you may likely have some that aren't so bad while some others may have yet to have a bad experience also I have to ask are you still in what would be considered a lowby or starter area?  These areas are notorious for bad behavior.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

I don't necessarily think you can judge a game community during the beta, and really the first (free) month after release. I've beta'd a number of games and inevitably there will be those disrupting things and being as much of a pain as they can muster. These types don't usually last in large numbers after the game goes live and the free month is up.

Now, as far as Aion specifically, I believe having pvp in a game draws certain types of individuals, including those who like to gank lower level players, etc. for no reason other than to harass. I witnessed this in World of Warcraft and other games. This goes with the type of game and can be mitigated by strong alliances and who you group with to a certain extent.

The biggest thing right now is neither to judge the overall community by beta board complaints and twits in game having no intent on playing after release. We'll see how it all works out once NA and EU have the opportunity to play live.

It is sadly true though, in every gaming community or just society in general you will always have your, rude, immature, thieving, players and those with massive epeens. haha :P

The most you can really do is just find the good ones start a guild and weed out the bad players, bad in terms of behaviour not skill.

The community shouldnt be so bad, Darkfall is already released.

Isn't it all based on perspective?

There's the people that like a community that won't point out the stupid crap they do in a group.

There's the people that don't care about succeeding at all and all they do is screw around and do "funny stuff."

There's the people who enjoy working with a community that treats an MMO like a second job.

There's the people that can't imagine a game that's not similar to World of Warcraft.

There's the people who think just because they're on a popular guild that they deserve to be the leader(s) of any group they join.

There's the people that think MMO's are all about reaching max level.

There's the people that think all the people above are morons.

    And so much more...

When will all of you morons realize you don't know shit?
