It was my first time playing Aion lastnight, it is a nice looking game and the over all enviroment is nice. But as i lvled(grinded) to level 7, I found myself searching for quests. Usually you can obtain 5 to 10 quests in the starter area, i think i only got 3, and i spent some time running around trying to finish these quests, they have you running along ways, and this is the starter area! As the game progressed i found myself finishing quests higher lvl then I was, so i was forced to grind some just to gain a lvl. As a noob to Aion, the progression of a new player wasnt the best experience for myself, they could have made the newbie area a bit more smooth with alot of quests to get you on the way, but i will continue to test this game out, overall as the levels are coming, the game is starting to open up a bit, just hate the grinding in the lower levels, kinda scary what the high lvls have to offer.

i'm level 13 right now and it doesn't get much better. right now i'm out of quests and i can't get new ones until i hit 14, so i have to mob grind level 13 in its entirety. sound fun? nope. that's why i'm browsing forums.
Well sorry if Aion is not easy as WoW to lvl /Sarcasm
sorry you guys aren't enjoying the game. well not totally. its good to have a chance to try it out before you drop the 50 bucks. if you're done with the CB test this weekend, would you mind sharing your key with me so I can do the same?
Much appreciated if ya can help, Cheers.
a lot of the keys are one time access. also, i believe this is the last CB test. next up is open beta.
strange, I have a level 16 cleric and had no problems finding quests all the way through.
lol. since when hard games must be time consuming?
aion= lineage 2 reborn.
pathetic ammount of grind. if i want to grind like an idiot i can just try... lets see.... 9999 other asian mmos?
im surprised that aion is so popular. wow as carebear as it is was atleast enjoyable to level.
More crap about the grind and no quests. The game has quests. You may not like what they are and you may have to group to do them (at level 18 or so) but the game has quests. I have some issues about Aion, which are stated here on the boards but if this is all youve got youve got nothing.
very true.

Yea I guess I was leaning towards an account password being changed and given to me, if you were done with it for the weekend. I think that would work, on the NCSoft side of things anyway.

Well sorry if you want to get to max lvl in a week or less Aion is harder but still not that slow how the OP is saying. I played it only once and got to max and didn't took me much so it's your problem if you don't know how to play.
You shouldn't be even coming close to running out of quests, until you hit level 16 or so. For the first 10 levels, you should actually have more quests than you need to get to 10 (a quest you get at lvl 9 even levels you to 10 regardless of how much exp you have at 9, so you if you want to you can skip the rest and get to 10 immediately to leave the starter area).
However, it needs to be said that the questing content is nowhere near that of WoW/EQ2 (even when they releas ed).
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.
Let me guess, on the Asmo side in Altgard when you get to Basfelt Village right?
When I got there I had quest that were levels 15 that I could do to get to level 14
How are you guys not finding quest?
I've abandon a whole bunch of them because I out leveled them.
You talking to the NPC's with the blue arrows over their heads?
My same question.
I've abandoned a fair few also because i've breezed over them.
this is spot on im level 13 and have had alot of quest's and never have grinded yet but i will say it isnt like wow where you can be lvl 10 in min's lol and i kind of like that.
The thing is (especially with the Asmodians in the 14's) that the quests kind of run thin and if you complete them quickly while minimizing the creatures you have to kill that don't contribute to questing, then you will run a bit short on quests; until then, however, I completely agree with you: If you can't find enough quests in the starting area, then you're in a heap of trouble when you get to Altgard.

I had quests til I where like 16-17, so I dont know what your doing. You prolly just suck lal. Didnt grind for a second almoste.
And more quests are added with 1.1 , 1.2 and 1.5 .
Its kinda stupid for them to give us "preview" / test the game in 1.0 since in the release we will have many bug fixed, many quests to reduce grinding, lots of UI fixes like more camera options and lots of content.
The real question is...why is doing 10 quests to kill 100 mobs less of a grind than simply kiling 100 mobs in the first place? If you get lots of xps for doing a quest turn in that simply means they require more xps per level in the first place.
I compare quest grinding to a store raising the price of an item by 50% then having a grand "sale" and giving you a huge 40% discount. You are still paying more than a normal price...just because they advertise a huge discount does not mean you are gettting one.
How many people who complain about quests actually read the quests and follow the storyline? I know a handfull of people do but the vast majority dont really care about the text of the quest. Would it not be simpler to just decrease the leveling curve and get rid of the xp reward for all quests?

true alt can be a pain but heck give yourself a quest.
Going of topic but seriously when did the MMO playerbase become so unimaginative that they can't create a bit of content for themselves, whats the difference betweena NPC saying go kill 10 rats to you saying in your head I need to kill 10 rats to feed my family etc
EQ the word grind was bareley mentioned and that was a fecking grind WHY ? because players made storyline's for why they where having to do X thus it wasn't a grind.
I personally hate quest's and would rather generate my own backstory and reasons as to why I'm doing what I am but in this MMO age you just can't overlook quests or your gimping yourself.
Just curious how many hours it took you to reach level 16ish. Because I would bet it took more than an hour and thus you still spent a lot of time grinding. The grind just have a different veneer slapped on top of it.
I like your mentality
I actually do this with other genres too.

I definitely agree with you to some extent: I remember playing AO, which almost had nothing but randomly generated missions; the objectives would often be to merely find a good path to a mission without getting killed by high level monsters or enemy factions. The difference between these new MMO's and AO, however, is that they completely lack the kind of detail that those old ones had; the little things like bars, discos and all sorts of odd things that made exploration worth it. Story lines are easier to come by when you're immersed in the game.
WoW's expansions, WAR, AoC and Aion definitely have a sort of linear quality about them that is lacking in the older generation of games and might be due to the younger audience, which places more emphasis on instant gratification than it does immersion.

I do quests because I like having a set goal, beside just teh next ding. I gives me a purpose for doing theses things.
I did played FFXI for 3 months, but the lack of quest, was only part of the reason I quit...
The fact you couldn't level quickly solo, since when I played groups were hard to come by. About 7am EST is not a good time to play, cause no one was ever on.
I really don't get this. I'm almost lvl 17 and have leveled solely by doing quests so far. Only thing I can say is you must somehow be missing hell of lot of them.
Anyways, so far for me this game is alarmingly solo oriented. I don't want a game where you are forced to group all the time but this is ridiculous. Looks like around lvl 18 that may change a bit so we'll see. Other than that the game seems enjoyable. I wouldn't say I'm dazzled by it or anything but its fairly fun so far. The carfting seems a bit tedious to me. Simplistic, which I suppose is what most want, just time consuming least far as alchemy goes-can't speak for the others.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
