Here is something interesting about a screenshot:

(I copied it from someone who copied it from someone who copied it from another forum)

the box says:

Knowing How to do it:

If a PT member is in danger, "provoking" helps. With Provoking and Shield-Block you can minimize the damage effectively

the drawing says (low to high):

1st: Swordslash: Powerfull Attack

2nd: Swordslash: Precise (meaning of Accuracy) Attack

3rd: Shield Block: damage Minimizing

4th (red one): Ranged Attack: Great Distance

---== Drawing==----

5th: Provoking: Distraction

6th (red): roundabout slash: AOE damage

7th (red) Red Lotus: huge damage

That's right provoke, and RED LOTUS BLADE baby.

More videos coming throughout the day i'm sure, but no really close up ones allowed.  Zyuu said he had a couple that will be uploaded shortly.

The vids look nice and all but was left totally uninspired when it was all done. The hype and expecations were not lived up to so far. Hopefully they while have something to reveal soon that may be better.

It's alpha footage taken by reporters of early gameplay...  Of course it isn't going to inspire you or be super amazing.  It is a first look at the game though and for many of us that is something to be excited about.  I am sure we will see more 'inspiring' gameplay vids officially from SE, but for now this is a pretty badass morning.

One thing I always disliked in FFXI was the slow pace of combat. Hopefully the video isn't a representation of the final combat speed.  If it is I'll have to pass on the game.  Not saying it has to be super fast, but super slow isn't better.

    In War - Victory.
    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

Who said looks good? are you kidding me?

I notice detail and things and that i saw looked BAD.Things like the player movement was jerky, they jerk side to side like a older console game, they look like they are moving in a square grid map rather than fluent realistic motion in a game world..I hate that aiming reticule or whatever it is,it looks dumb.

The worst part i noticed was something FFXI did great and other games like EQ for example failed, and that was the HIT BOX.Notice in the DODO fight the Dodo and the player can actually move right inside of each other,HORRIBLE !,how could they get that right in FFXI and now botch it up?In FFXI it made combat more organized and would not allow for 5 or more players all standing on top of the NPC or mob, this looks like a step backwards in development.

That German guy that was the guy showing features to the crowd, was really awful,i gathered nothing from what he was doing, all i saw was him fiddling with that circled aiming reticule over and over.

All i heard from the advancement of this new engine is much better looking graphics,we will see exactly what you are used to in the console FF series from FFX onwards.I would not count on any advancement on the engine outside of that. They even admitted in one of their much earlier interviews, that they kept most of the same mechanics from the original engine, because their staff was so used it it and would take little no new training.

From what i saw in these videos, there is nothing to get excited about at all,i actually had hoped from 7 videos i would see something unique or some cool feature, all i got was that aiming reticule witch makes the game look even worse like a console game rather than a nice realistic feel,i hope they don't start adding big bopping arrows over NPC heads now also.

These guys are like early levels starting out so it's impossible to tell how fast it will be when they get some more skills.  Zyuu said though that he had a couple skills that gave him points to use on AOE skill or something like this so there seems to be something similar to the TP system.  Remember this is reporters playing for the first time as lowbies.

Dude it's alpha footage with reporters recording it with handheld devices of who knows what quality.  Are you seriously judging the game based off of this?  You are wearing me out.

IO disagree 100%,the combat speed was EXACTLY what i liked,i do not like arcade speed animations ,that look and play VERY unrealistic. The other MAJOR reason combat was kept that slow was to allow for more skillful arrangements, rather than 6 players all hitting a mob 5 times in 8 seconds, that adds up to a ridiculous 48 hits in 8 seconds, you can't tell me that would make combat interesting?

Besides if you actually played FFXI,you would know that DELAY was done quite right, you could actually get your INCREDIBLE,unrealistic combat speed for example on a NINJA using HASTE gear.I am sure you have seen a NINJA on HASTE gear?VERY fast especially using those mutli hit daggers[can't remember the name of them]you definitley would not want the speed of combat any faster than that,as it was already over done.

Kraken club and other multi hit weapons would give similar effects ,so they designed things with delays and multi-hit,some faster than others, there was not that SIMPLISTIC all out arcade speed approach to every weapon.

I think it was obvious ,combat in a fantasy game is using swords, they are not slaughtering each other with AK-47's for instant combat kills, the speed of COMABT in FFXI,was IMO PERFECTLY done,i would have it no other way.

It's funny how every game here has a resident troll who get's bent out of shape over everything.

I'm pretty sure what they're showing at the GamesCom is more like the graphic engine and some game features and mechanics (the basics). This is very interesting to see the game at this stage and we can expect a very polished game further on. They're still more than a year before launch so...

And Wizardy, don't pollute this thread.

Dude it's alpha footage with reporters recording it with handheld devices of who knows what quality.  Are you seriously judging the game based off of this?  You are wearing me out.

Who said anything about the quality of the game looking at it through hand held devices?I already said it will have the quality of of looks of FFX and onwards, that is good quality. All the points i made are valid and did NOT look good,i am not talking about CLEARITY  lmao you "wear me out" with comments like that.

What has ALPHA got to do with anything i mentioned? That dumb looking reticule will dissappear come release?Let me guess the CLEARITY was making those side to side jerky movements?

Sure they can fix the HITBOX,but why on earth ,LIKE I SAID,if you actually read my post PROPERLY,would they screw up the hit box and allow mobs and players to move into each other, after they got it right in FFXI and ALL the rest of their games? This is obviously a CHANGE they made,it has NOTHING to do with Alpha, please,i have heard that excuse a million times ,using your own words ..."it wears me out" lame excuses like that, especially if you are an experienced FF player ,you would have seen this OBVIOUS change for the worse.

Instead of lame remarks like that other poster"mr.stupid"he says? ,try pointing out anything POSITIVE from ANY of those videos?i cannot, the German guy was awful and what i saw IN the videos was bad,NOTHING to do with CLEARITY from hand helds, had to repeat that some people fabricate their own input from my posts. To further show how lame that comment was ,i could use a handheld phone on FFXI and it would not change the gameplay ANY at all,how does clearity change gameplay?Does it change how the player and mob move into each other?does it change the HIT BOX?Does that reticule all of a sudden dissappear?

PLEASE give me your knowledge on what you saw in  these videos instead of making up BS about my comments,i want to hear your educated knowledge on these videos,so i can see where these comments are coming from,ESPECIALLY from the guy who says "mr.stupid" i am sure he has some briliance to share?

TREPO...I am not polluting a thread ,i am commenting on what i see in those videos as NOT showing anything positive to look forward to,i am well aware as to what they were trying to show, and i really do not think POLISH will change any of what i disliked about those videos.

I think if you just went and sat down and watched the discovery channel for like 15 minutes and enjoyed a nice cup of milk, tea, soda, or your favorite beverage and admired some beautiful plant life and then reread the thread you might take a step back.  You are just a bit intense is all.

Added a translation on the Gladiator screen.  Pretty cool info.  It seems like you use abilities to give you points to use other abilities similar to TP.  Interested to see how the system works out with more skills because it could be a really cool tp and combo system in one.

It's Square-Enix. I dont know if the game mechanics will be a success but one thing I'm sure of is that this game will be extremely polished when released!
