I control the security on my PC. I refuse to uninstall security software to play a game. I was curious about the game but it's just reminding me of all the cheap korean crap with gameguard mucking things up.
Stand by for hysterical Aion Defense Force arrival! Gameguard is a VERY bad choice for game security. Its broken within hours of patching(if it takes that long). It can cause serious stability issues with some peoples systems. It also prevents legitimate applications from running. Gameguard is seen by all too many suits as a one stop shop for game security issues, that should have been addressed at the start of development. The fact that its ineffective is totally lost on them.
For one, there have been many issues with people using 64-bit vista/windows 7 not being able to access the game unless they turned off their AV/firewall/dance three times in a circle and sacrifice a goat. The big aversion to GG is that it installs a rootkit, accessing your BIOS. Remember what Sony did with those DVDs? It is never a good thing when a program accesses the soft underbelly of your OS.
I have been critical of GameGuard for its rootkit behavior but to be clear, it doesn't access your bios and is not as bad as Sony's rootkit. The problem remains that in usurping the operating system (hidden servers, files, and drivers) it usurps the user and is highly vulnerable to problems, intentional or otherwise.
Oooch... Well that blows. Guess I will wait and see if they change it. No way am I going to play a pvp game with software that punishes legit players into a set game style but allows the script kiddies to bypass it by running code in a root. Tia
