So as it turns out this is just another copy of WoW?

I'll give it a try when it comes out but these clips left a bad taste in my mouth :(

xD I don't remember any blasters or Lightsabers in wow. And all I remember about VO in WoW were disembodied voices coming from the direction of a particular character from time to time.

I mean like skills that have ranks and I assume they are bought from the trainer or something. Weapons and other loot bound and with stats like +8 strength, +8 Endurance and so on. All that's missing is some tallent trees and loot grind :P

Maybe I'm exaggerating but that's what it looks to me right now.

In a recent interview they mentioned skill trees being important for diversity, more than likely a secondary system. Not sure if you buy all skills from a trainer, I assume some are quest and loot and dark/lght path. Either way it sounds like they wanted diversity from the moment you enter the game, based on what I read. I think loot will be things like weapons, armor and clothes, not sure about stats on those items. Sounds like most of the customization is in the character itself, rather than just the gear.

    Thanks for link Till.

I've decided long ago that I'm not going to be a Jedi nor a Sith when trying this game!  I've always played ranged dps, hunter in WoW is one example, Engineer in War is another one...

But.... eh...JESUS!!! That Sith looked really, really fun! :)

some pics of the inventory and loot. To answer Darth_Pete's question, yes there are some stats on them. Not sure how a LS adds strength, but later on in the game I hope gear doesn't mater for PvP.

    Those aren't lightsabers.

Lightsabers don't have damage ranges. If they hit you, you die, or at least lose a limb.

Voice overs? WHO THE HELL CARES? If it was the setting of the films and the original cast doing them, I would care. It's going to be strangers voicing strangers. Voice overs are not gameplay.

Actually some of the voice actors in the SWTOR did voice work in KOTOR. I guess it maters a whole lot to the shit loads of KOTOR fans. And Mark Hamil is doing VO as the Joker in the new Batman game. Just because it doesn't mater to you doesn't mean no one gives a crap. FFS if you don't care, GTFO!

I don't see what people are complaining about with the character models.

Maybe it's just because it's a video and I'm not seeing it first-hand, but the character models seemed to fit the environments just fine to me.

Thing is, I may bother with posting negative about games I've played, but rarely do I bother with games I won't play. Just because you don't care about VO, don't mean others don't.

  • When something has such high expectations its bound to dissappoint a little bit.

Keeping that is mind, I was happy with what I saw and am very excited. What I was hoping to see that I didn't was: An explanation of any open world or how the social aspect of the game worked. If this is fact a fully instanced game with no open world, in my mind it will not be as successful of a game as it could be. Also curious about economy and skill progression, which I'm sure will be there.

Out of the 4 pillars we only saw: Combat, story and very little progression (loot/dialogue decision) no?

Isn't throw lightsaber a Sith skill? that could be what the 0-4 meters is about.

Looking too much like an actual "game" made for kids, with it's comic color palette, action elements etc, just not enough old school star wars universe "feeling" for me.

Also, i'm starting to get tired listening to the same old blaster sounds for 30 years now :)

Why do they keep calling the planet "Hutta"? It's supposed to be "Nal Hutta." On the official site and in every video, they consistently leave out the "Nal" part.

If I worked for BioWare, I suppose I'd say "Masta Yo" instead of "Jedi Master Yoda." God forbid we waste the extra second it takes to say and/or spell it properly.

(Seriously though, if someone could explain this, I'd be grateful.)

It's not going to be open world. Staff have dropped various hints in numerous videos like these which the keen listener can pick up on, such as a planet designer saying, "We have to guide the player through each area so they know where they can go" (paraphrasing).

Also, this is BioWare. Their games have all been very linear, especially Knights of the Old Republic, though I still do love those games to death. And I wouldn't be surprised if there's a lot of instancing, since it's hard to feel heroic when there are 32 Boba Fetts, 26 Han Solos and 57 Darth Mauls sharing the same area with you.

I'd be far more excited for SW:TOR if it were single-player. The fact that it's an MMORPG puzzles me and makes me scratch my head.

Hopefully it'll almost be like a single-player game, and the monthly fee will be justified by the inclusion of far more (and ongoing) content.

    Currently Playing: EVE Online
Retired From: UO, FFXI, AO, SWG, Ryzom, GW, WoW, WAR

I was looking forward to this game, but...

The character models could use a bit of work, they do look a bit blocky.

The combat looks far too simplistic. I was hoping he was fighting low level enemies on purpose to show us the combat, but then he said combat is like that to give you a more heroic feeling? Umm even the class needing to take cover had no use for it due to the minimal damage he was taking... hopefully that changes as you go higher up in level. But i dont think so due to the comment he made regarding you hero status.

Go kill Slugs? Nice quest there...

Im not trying to bash the game or anything, this is just my opinion. But honestly these videos showed me that there is hype in this game that doesnt belong.

They have said from the start that it was going to be like most mass appeal MMO's out there.  This was never going to be a sandbox skill based MMO and they have been honest about that from the start.  What the hell were you expecting.

This game looks to be ridiculously fun and stays semi true to the KOTR games.  Heck Even Korriban looks exactly like it does in the console games.

    I am exicted.

How many sword strokes does it take to kill a normal person? Bullets? What about lightning bolts? Hmmmmm... I guess all games have to have a system of hit points in order to make combat more interesting and not all 'one hit one kill'.

i had been saving this label ( wow clone) for a long long time and this is the first time i want to use this word. wow clone with light saber. haha let the flame begin. i really don't see any different between this game and the current swg. sad very sad day for starwars fans. i'm not trying to provoke anyone, i'm just simply express my opinion!

ps. swg 2.0 with voice over, and you have to wait untill next year.

That was frickin' EPIC. This game is gonna set a new standard in interactive entertainment on a whole as we know it.  It is the only game in development that I'm really excited about.

When we get back from where we are going, we will return to where we were. I know people there!
