The only other upcoming MMO I can think of that might even begin to match that kind of level of VO is FFXIV, but they won't have anything like multiplayer dialogue interactions, and probably won't have player voices or extra dialogue options.
Yeah, it will most likely lack those. However the NPC's and cutscenes will have full VO, so I'd say that it qualifies for the term "full voice acting" as Bioware describes it- and thus will be the first MMO to have it~!
The 2 games seem to be more similar than one would think- will be interesting to see which one comes off as the winner..
SE has more experience from the MMO business and can avoid most mistakes a company can do while launching their MMO, but Bioware has the western audiences support and most likely better customer service.. I'd say its 50/50 situation right now!
Except FF has been on a constant state of decline, its a crap game and can no longer stand on the single player foundation it started from. Much like KOTOR is doing by going MMO FF tried that, produced junk and ended up where they are. So I would say it's a bloody long way's from 50/50 in KOTOR's favor. IMO.
With BW's reputation for turning out quality products, I am optimistic about this game. Someone said it eaerleir; You are looking at an Alpha release people, there is much polishing to be done. I would hazard to say what we saw in the demo will be vastly different from what we see at release. Anyway there is a lot of time left to flesh out the whole game, chill winstons.
If you want a new idea, go read an old book.
In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.
Combat just looked way too easy. There wasnt a single time from fighting low level scum to the jedi knight fight where you wondered would he win or not. I prefer more challenging combat personally and hope this isn't indicative of what it will be like on release.
I do not think some people will ever be satisfied..
Why should they be he makes a very valid point.
Combat did look exceptionally dull and boring and I second the opinion I really hope this isnt it at release and they where perhaps using OP'd demo chars or something.
Because if your taking down mobs like that all the time then its gonna get real boring real fast.
Might I suggest you never again play an MMO.
Or any video game for that matter.
Next up: Toolboxes complaing about air. IT SHOULD DO MORE.
Congrats on posting complete nonsense. Why not try and come up with a counter argument next time.
I agree combat will get old fast if its that easy. Any type of game will get boring if there isn't some type of challenge to it. When i first starting playing FPS i only played against the AI till i got bored with beating it too easy and now i prefer actual people to play against since it is more of a challenge. This applies to mmo's for me. Played them for years so i prefer them to be more challenging not less.
IMO.
And where are you basing off your claims? On the fact that new FF's are still coming out after 20 years, or the fact that the first FF MMO was 5th most successful MMO in the market ever?
Or because every new FF title has sold over 5 million copies worldwide?
Sounds like someone hates the franchise just for the sake of hating.. too bad only baseless claims won't make the game fail =P
EDIT: By your definition, Blizzard made WoW because they could no longer stand on the RTS foundation they started from... oh but Blizzard is different, I forgot!
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".
So many posts already, lol. I wonder who will read mine. o.0
Anywho... I think for an alpha it was ok. Since I am a big SW fan, yes it is cool. But truth be told, some things really irritate me. For instance, and most important, the graphics. Is it just me, or... I dunno, it more looked like the many years old Jedi Knight with the low detail textures. Looking at the world and those ship interiors, it more looked like WOW in space. Speaking purely of visual topics. I can't say how the game will be gameplay wise. Too many questions unanswered. Like is it more than a mere co-op game? Where is the vast open world people can roam and meet people. All I see are trailor made instances where people are lead through tunnels from event point A to event point B, and tbh, I don't find that so exciting.
I won't go into the fact that animations (walking!) and characters are rough atm, its alpha, so thats no issue for me now.
I dunno, but I had the feeling even SWG's landscapes and interiors looked more detailled. That "stylized realism" is quite a letdown I must say.
I feel like, after reading the body of this thread, that I must have watched an entirely different set of videos than most of the posters here. These (early development, alpha) videos prompted me to come back to this forum and take an interest in MMORPGs that I haven't had in over a year's time. What I see is a game that promises, and I think may actually deliver, an MMORPG that actually makes you want to take your time playing through the body of the game, and not just rush to the end to get through it.
If the rest of the game is even remotely close to what was pictured in these vids, we're looking at a far more engaging story than has ever been seen in any MMO to date, and to me the combat did look pretty epic. One major issue I've had with a lot of MMOs in the past is the standard 1 player 1 mob combat system, which didn't do much for me in the way of immersion.
It also disgusts me every time someone shouts out WOW clone as if they Blizzard anything first with their MMO, or even that they did it the best.
Then people look at the graphics and call them dated, seemingly ignoring the fact that most potential players of this game won't be playing on a machine that can handle state of the art graphics, especially in an MMO which generally has a lot more going on on a single screen than just about anything else. The "cartoony" graphics serve to make the game look fairly good without being too taxing on a PC.
Except FF has been on a constant state of decline, its a crap game and can no longer stand on the single player foundation it started from. False hyping on the front page does not make your game popular. Truth is most Western gamers think FF is crap. Look at the amount of votes and posts for SWTOR VS. FF. I think it speaks for itself. Like I said, even Aion is even a better game, and the amount of hype for it speaks volumes.

Oh yeah I forgot, Western gamers are the only ones that matter, right?
From what I've heard, most western gamers like good MMO's, no matter what the title may be called.
There are of course haters who diss the game just because of it's title, without any evidence to their claims (oh hey, I just found one!).
Also lol@false hype. What makes you say it's false? Because of your bias towards FF? Great thinking there bud.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".

they are the only ones who mater to me, since that's all I game with in most MMOs I play.
People here don't like grind fests, it's that simple. FF is a grind fest.
SW: TOR is a bigger grind fest.
I wonder where this is going.. let's make more claims we can't prove, shall we?
I can prove that the most recent FF is a grind fest, the next one will be no different. It's appeal is for the same market. We have all tried FF, most of us hate it, just like RF Online.

FFXIV = tries to appeal to casual..
Are we done with the baseless claims yet? SW: TOR tries to appeal to monkeys, btw. They like grind fests!
lol whatever. I think you're in the wrong forum, we aren't here to discuss your game. There's a reason why even on Gamespot SWTOR is the most hyped game and not FF. Give it up.If anything you are only hyping this game more by posting on these forums. xD
LOL, now we got Final Fantasy versus Star Wars. I predict Star Wars will do better in the west but on a global scale Final Fantasy will do better. Neither one will do good as Aion though.

Aion has the Korean market.. you're probably right ; ;

Yeah but once you throw WoW and GW2 into the mix, anything can happen.
FFXIV looks amazing and is geared for a more western audience. Of course it will take awhile to catch on since everyone has these false ideas of what it's going to be like, as evident in this thread. People are so close minded.. oh well their loss.
But what I cam to say is that I watched the demo of SW:TOR and it looks really good. I just wonder how much will be persistant and stuff like that. But it's pretty impressive.
I like the art style, just needs a bit more detail I guess. The story didn't seem too bad either, I think I'd enjoy playing the trial at least (can't say that from most MMO's I've trialed, lol).
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".
It looks pretty good, i must admit. Now i´m not a big fan of story and quest driven games, but i can still see that this can be a great game for those who do.
The main problem for me (except that its not my type of game) is that it failed to catch any kind of star wars feeling. It felt more like a random space adventure game. The only thing in the bridge sceen with the bounty hunter and sith dude who told me that this was star wars, and not star trek, was the flashing light sabre. I think it is the art direction and art work who feels so totally wrong. I find the character models, their clothes and equipment very non-star warsy, but also something i cant put my finger on with the entire atmosphere. I have never played any of the KOTOR games, but what i have seen from screen shots, i think they should have sticked to that instead of this stylized realism or whatever they call it.

The reason being.. SW: TOR is a western game, FFXIV is Japanese game.. guess which game is more hyped on japanese websites..? o=
I don't have anything against hyping SW: TOR, I'm just bored

Just out of curiosity, how do you know this? The game is still too far away from release.
Eh, I just countered his baseless claim with mine, lol. I know as much as you do =P
The point I was trying to make was that if you're going to claim something, you better have something to prove it with
