Aion is going quest heavy, because they realize, that unlike their korean audience, the western audience doesnt have the focus to simply slaughter hordes of mobs to progress, unless of course it is hidden nicely in the form of a quest.
Doesnt say a whole lot in the way of intellegence on the player base part if its that easy to fool them.
It is that easy to fool them, you never hear anyone complain about WoWs grind, because it never runs out of quests, if they took away all the quests, and just told you to kill mobs, and you took exactly hte same amount of time to hit max level ( for me it was an average of 3 weeks per toon) People would bitch and moan about how much of a grind WoW is.

When i see one english dev interview involving tera online ill be interest in it, as far as i can tell its just another korean game, superior to its western counterparts, that wont find its way into the english territories.

Yeah I have the game does look pretty impressive animation wise, seen some boss footage too. Still tho, I think I remember reading someowhere Blue Hole Studio is planning an International-world wide release. Not sure what that means, if it will first come out in S. Korea, then other countries, of if it's simulteanous. I'll probablly pick up Aion as we get closer to the NA release in Sept, and probably via steam, but if and (hopefully) when TERA comes out in NA region, I"ll be the first to drop Aion (and anything else I'm playing).
In the least, Aion will fill the gap for me quite nicely till TERA arrives
Just to clear a few misconceptions up. 1. AION IS a lot like World of Warcraft. Simply put, WoW was successful, NCsoft realized this when they set about making Aion, to replicate the success of WoW and other MMOs of today, they pulled together many many elements from many games, several of which are probably noticable right from the get-go, most noteworthy of which-WoW. Now you say , Pezhead, you dumb-fuck, AION is NOTHING like WoW except for the two factions. Respectfully I must disagree. WoW ushered in an era of MMO's where solo content and heavy quest driven leveling was key to ease the boredom of solo or group grinding. It was put together to appeal to a much more casual market, and at its peak of 12 million subscribers, it indeed achieved that. World of Warcraft took all that was successful from previous MMO's, tweaked them and combined them to create the superomfg MEGAZORD! i.e. World of Warcraft. It didnt do anything revolutionary, except for this. Take a look at AION, elements from Guild Wars, WoW, Lineage, City of Heroes, DAOC, can be seen quite easily (Quest leveling, art style, customization, RvR etc.) 2. AION's graphics are NOT superb. They are merely above average, part of this is of course is that the CRYengine is 5 years old, part of it is a lack of detail in certain areas. However, what sets AION's graphics apart from everything else out there is the way that they are implemented. Take Age of Conan for instance, probably the most graphically advanced MMO currently availiabe. However, in addition to killing computers, the graphics in the game are very nitty gritty, neandertahlish, a rather boorish taste if you ask me. AION's graphics however send a message to players that, not everything has to look ugly, there is beauty even in the scorching desert or within a bustling capital city, and even beyond that, there is elegance. 3. I am NOT an AION hater, I do not like people who say things in ignorance after accusing others of ignorance, and people who make the AION community look worse then the WoW community. I played Korean retail as well as been playing English Beta.
My Input for you is this All i have to say is this, You haven't played Aion long enough to make generalizations, Your a wow fanboy if you think wow didn't steal its UI, and a crap load of other things from other games. You dont know that they used the CryEngine V2 for this, not a 5 year old engine, you moron. No, but it shares aspects with both. Does that make WoW truly an EQ clone? I don't think so.
AION is run on a modified version of the CRYengine 1, yet you seem so certain it was on CE2?

And yes, I run AION on max graphics, my computer isnt the greatest but even a pair of Radeon 3870's in crossfire with a phenom 9850 is more then enough.

I agree with some of the things that you said. I don't consider myself an Aion "Fanboy". I do intend to play the game, and I do thuroughly enjoy the game. I don't believe that Aion is an amazing game. Aion is a good game, maybe a great game. It is smooth, polished, and has a relatively good amount of content. Aion borrowed a lot from other mmos, including WoW, but WoW also borrowed a lot from other mmos. Every game borrows a lot from other games. WoW didn't really have any revolutionary features either. WoW turned the industry in the themepark direction, but its not like there was never a quest in an mmorpg before. WoW was never an incredibly innovative game.

Awesome, seems we have something in common. 7 years SEGA (Cust. Serv.Tech Writter), 7 years SCEA QA, both first and 3rd Party software testing. I quit the industry a few years back however, as I was slowly going crazy pulling at times 72 hour shits during crunch times, and only have 2 hours to go home and shower in between.
Honestly I'm glad I'm out of the industry part, now I can enjoy more gameplay as apposed to tediously play-testing, bug regression testing (recreating old bugs from previous 2000+page of bugs... ugh). You don't know how many times I've had horrible video game nightmares.
