Encouraging use of exploits, gee thats really what gaming needs. Not. In general, pvp etiquette is in the vein of "good government" "common sense", or "jumbo shrimp".

Yeah, gank and grief may well be PvE terms, but they mean what they say regardless. People who enjoy PvE will not enjoy PvP. Especially open PvP.

The OP even forgot two community-building mechanics in Aion: killstealing and mob trains.

    Great post.

i do not mean to be rude but i disagree with both of these posts, they show very imature mindsets and i would like to say that proper players in a community do not cheat(use exploits) or train or gank and camp other players it is rude and causes problems which i do not wish to take the time to point out as they are very numerous.

one last thing i must say is that i hope if i am on either of our servers i am on the oposeing faction and that you happen to get caught in any wakes of destruction my guild may choose to cause (although i would prefer you learnt how to be more mature to just seeing you obliterated in game as that fixes nothing).

in the end all i came here to say was i am sadly disapointed at this and it makes me rather sad to see people acting like this towards other people.

(note i am not saying that it is ok to just get mad and not train to fight back i am just disagreeing with all the statements past

Q: When I get to higher levels, should I "gank" other players? Why?

A: Yes, because you win and you help your faction win.                      )    <----- btw that is greifing and wrong

( and no i am not one of the people who complains i get off my but and do something about it by leveling)

Never really wrote anything in the forums for the past couple of months, only doing my ''daily reading'' usually...

But I have to say I totally agree with you here about camping and griefing: just plain stupid... Don't get me wrong: I'm all for PVP, it's fun... Nothing like fighting real players and not simple AI, or turning the newbie area into a total war when the big boys are coming to the rescue because you were spotted killing a couple of players left and right...

It's okay to get a couple of kills left and right, but when a camper / griefer is getting on someone's back for like 30 minutes++ (and that kind of stupid shit) it's just plain wrong and it shows how immature and completely retarded you really are.

When you have fun by being an ass to someone, there's definitely something wrong with you, even in a PVP-focussed game...

Too bad MMOs nowaday are swarmed with people that actually get turned on by that type of childish behavior... There's nothing wrong in PVP: just don't be a stupid dumbass about it and actually enjoy cutting someone's gametime by preventing them from playing the game because you're sitting on his corpse for a week...

Ah, and this is just one of so very many people that people who will play this game will run into.  So many people like him.  And some people think this is going to be a fair, fun, on your teams pvp only in the Abyss. Rofl.

Can't wait for all the posters crying about exploiters, campers, and griefers.

Q:  I was just killed while levelling!  It's not fair!  What should I do?
A:  Kill them back.  possibly the only correct answer op gave.

Q:   I was just killed while levelling!  He's alot higher in level than me and I can't kill him back!  What should I do?
A:   Level harder, then and kill him back.  wrong, get your buddies and kill them back right now, dont let them think they can push you around or theyll just do it constatnly.

Q:  I can't  do my quest because I keep getting "ganked!"  What should I do?
A:  Go somewhere else and level.  wrong, get your friends and clear out the gankers, youll get xp for doing so.

Q:  But I still can't do my quests!  How am I supposed to level?
A:  Grind mobs.  wrong, grind the gankers.

Q: But grinding is boring and takes too long!
A: Learn to have discipline.  wrong, go do something fun till you feel like grinding gankers again.  games have to be fun to want to play them, saying you need discipline to do unfun things to level, well the games just not for you if it isnt fun.

Q:  When I get to higher levels, should I "gank"  other players?  Why?
A:  Yes, because you win and you help your faction win.  you cant tell what level enemies are in areas that you can pvp in, but if you keep killing the same easy target far too easily odds are hes too weak to fight back, just leave him be till he decides to pick a fight or gets strong enough to be a fun kill, otherwise youre just a griefing assload.

Q: When I get to higher levels, should I "camp"  other players?  Why?
A:  Yes. because you win and you help your faction win.  wrong, camping is griefing and it doesnt help your faction with anything other then getting labled as steaming assloads.

Q:  But isn't ganking and camping cheap and unfair?
A:  No.  The only important thing is that you win.  Fairness doesn't matter  wrong, in a fun game fairness matters in several ways, if youre outnumbered get your friends to come along, fair fights that you manage to win are always more fun, blindly killing way under level lone targets is rarely worth the effort on the fun-ometer.

Q: Is it ok to train mobs into players of my own faction
A: Yes.  Training mobs helps train members of your own faction by training them to react to unexpected situations.  wrong, training mobs on your faction is a bannable offense in 99% of mmorpgs.  i know i was banned for it alot it my more immature days in eq1 and wow.  ive grown out of wanting to be an asshole to everyone i meet though lately.

Q: Help!  I've just been killed using an exploit!  What should I do?
A: Use the same exploit on others.  wrong, report the exploiter and do not duplicate the cheat.

    Q: Isn't using exploits cheating?
A:  No.   The only thing that matters is what you can do and what you can't do.  exploiting is a bannable offense in all mmos.

Q: Should I cry about being killed on forums
A: No.  That makes you a "newb"  dont cry on forums about anything, doesnt make you newb, just makes you a crybaby so please dont.

Q: Should I do silly emotes like /facepalm?
A: No. That makes you a "newb".  i dont think aion has a facepalm atm, but this OP def isnpires facepalming

fixed all the wrong answers, after all he did say he wanted a guide to proper pvp ettiquette, even though he spelled it wrong i think.

i would also like to add to everyone here who is decideing they want to greif  lower levels there is a system to prevent it :)

how it works is this if you are ganking lower levels or griefing them continuosly you will be marked on the in game map so al lthe higher levels can swarm you

plus if that werent enough to inspire people afrain of getting ganked to join this game i would like to add that im not sure if they will do this right after you are marked on the map or if you manage to survive and continue greifing you will get debuffed heavily i think i read all of you states go down about 50% or maybe it was 75% either way good luck griefing peopless :P

Probably one of my favorite things I've seen on any MMO forum in a long time. You have given me hope that poor sports and "griefers" actually can mature into commendable gamers.

BTW, I would think saying there is no such thing as a griefer is the same as saying there is no such thing as a newb. They are both states of mind that are common in these communities. Now, a griefer may or may not be that level 50 enemy massacring the low-level characters in a certain area; the fact that the game mechanics allow this says to me that they are not griefing just by being there. I fall back on the time I learned what griefing is all about in my first years as an MMO'er in Ultima Online, the game that many say invented the PKer. It was the guy (or group) that made it his business to absolutely ruin another player's (or players') experience. Be it through kill stealing, node hording, mob training, moongate hunting or whatever other method of madness, these people did everything in their power to piss you off.

My point is that being a PKer does not automatically make someone a griefer, as many people seem to think (likely because of the sickness that is WoW syndrome). PvP games are designed for you to kill other players; that's the whole point! And if the game's very design allows bullies to come raging through certain areas filled with weaker opponents, awesome! I have to admit, the chance to be one of the guys that come rushing in to try and stave off the slaughter gives me chillbumps. Better for those of you who long for that feeling of immense power, too, since you'll get to wade through the masses of your enemies as Sauron through the battlelines at Mt. Doom. We'll both get our kicks. Just don't go crying because you can't stand the heat when the defenders show up to wipe you, and I promise I won't whine when you kill my level 21 templar with your level 48 sorcerer for the 9th time since that rift opened.

    In UO...

Covetous was my home..... and the Chaos Shrine was my best friend that I never wanted to visit.   CORP POR!  VAS FLAM!

If you don't know what any of that means... well, you're not a PvPer.  :D

  • GolarumGolarum Member Posts: 151

    This post makes me laugh...

I've noticed in my 13 years of experience in mmos that most of the people who pretend on the forums that they do not care about being camped or ganked, are the first who cry ingame for bieng ganked...

To me, the proper etiquette is kill someone once and then leave them be...

Ganking is part of the war, you see an enemy and you kill him, but griefing  and camping is not part of it...

In any open PvP game I play, I always remember the names I ganked, and I will not gank them again until a couple of days...

    Peace

  • MrblurayMrbluray Member Posts: 248

I generally don't care what their names are when I do PvP.

    It's not important.

  • HJFudgeHJFudge Member Posts: 27

His post only holds water if there is actual territory to be contested, or resource areas to be fought over.

A really good levelling ground for newbies thats accessible by both player factions? Then its a perfect valid thing for one factions group of big bad high levels to go in and kill any lowbie of the enemy faction. They can even be polite about it.

This is Our zone now. You may take your corpse and leave. If you stay or try to use our zone in any way besides getting the hell out...we will kill you again.

If Aion has such zones, then I would say any tactic (besides an exploit) is fair game and good pvp. Denying your enemy resources is a valid tactic.

However, I do not know if Aion has such a system. Without any such territories, such tactics are meaningless. WAR suffered from the Meaningless Open world PvP.

Always remember names when you PvP! So when that one asshat who comes from behind and murks you while your fighting a mob than emotes as he runs like a wuss will get his the next time you come across him. Also remembering names will make for great rivalries in the PvP zones.
