You either get PvP or you don't. I was desparate for this game to take me away from WOW, but the PvP kills it for me before I even start. Remember I said you either get it or you don't before you start to call me stupid names for saying my piece.

Couldn't agree more, thats why i canceled my pre-order.

A really good levelling ground for newbies thats accessible by both player factions? Then its a perfect valid thing for one factions group of big bad high levels to go in and kill any lowbie of the enemy faction. They can even be polite about it.
This is Our zone now. You may take your corpse and leave. If you stay or try to use our zone in any way besides getting the hell out...we will kill you again.

If Aion has such zones, then I would say any tactic (besides an exploit) is fair game and good pvp. Denying your enemy resources is a valid tactic.

However, I do not know if Aion has such a system. Without any such territories, such tactics are meaningless. WAR suffered from the Meaningless Open world PvP.

I agree. WAR failed to give meaning to it's PvP. Keep captures meant nothing except a small bonus to RP and a slim chance at a gold bag, depending on the size of the group. It's contribution system remained broken for too long; in my opinion this should have been fixed before implementing the token system. I played from October to April, and even by then the system remained cryptic and irrational.

But I think the system (as I understand it) that Aion will use will be just as exciting as the one you described. I don't know for sure in which areas rifts will appear, but it is possible that the lower tier areas may be included. There are a few things that intrigue me about these rifts:

    1) They act like instance gateways. Without actually leading to an instance. The destination is real-time, and the whole world will know that you have arrived.

    2) They do not remain active indefinitely. When the good guys start showing up to protect their weaker brethren and that rift shuts down behind the invaders, imagine the sheer joy you'll experience when you finally rid the area of the last opponent. There is no respawn, there is no bindstone from which they'll come running back in 5 minutes. The fight's over.

    3) The lower tier areas retain some importance. This is a unique way of keeping max level characters interested in their homelands. Most MMO's, especially these linear quest-driven worlds, tend to leave the starting villages to the newbs and the rerolls and the power-levelers. Aion is trying a system, it seems, to keep you remembering that little hamlet from which you sprung. Hometown pride isn't just for roleplayers anymore.

    4) Economics. This is more to the point of the quote above. While there will not be direct control over resource points as far as I've heard (please correct me if I'm wrong there), there is again the possibility that a rift may open right next to that mid-grade mine your enemies have been using. Here you have a chance to disrupt the efficiency of your despised opponents' trading efforts. Granted, it may or may not be at the highest level of operation, but a ripple can become a wave, a wave a tsunami.

there are no mines resource nodes spawn in a scattered fashion throughout each zone so you cant realy disrupt that unless you go looking specificaly for nodes and camping them

secondly the only capturable places are in the abyss and these are artifacts (give benefits to the faction side that has captured it like dmg to all enemy in area or heals to all friendlys) and fortresses which when captured give access to specific instances and special things that can only be bought by the faction that has controll of the location so there is direct controll if you count the abyss fortresses and artifacts

  • WhitetreeWhitetree Member Posts: 76

Ah, right. Forgot about the Abyss' different layout. And I didn't realize the nodes were wide spread. But still, if we spilled 40 men through a rift, I'd say we could disrupt the gathers for a while throughout an area just by spreading out and wreaking as much havoc as possible. Granted, when the reinforcements show up we'd have trouble regrouping, but if your goal is to just prod your enemy, it could work.

Either way its good strategic thinking, good schemes and plans like that go far in PvP based warfare games.

Hahahaha sorry people but I just couldn't help myself. As for Whitetree, that song (the one I posted) is truly awesome; and Flyleaf are a decent band - totally different genre from what I usually listen to lol

    A:  Kill them back

Q:   I was just killed while levelling!  He's alot higher in level than me and I can't kill him back!  What should I do?
A:   Level harder, then and kill him back.

Q:  I can't  do my quest because I keep getting "ganked!"  What should I do?
A:  Go somewhere else and level.

Q:  But I still can't do my quests!  How am I supposed to level?
    A:  Grind mobs.

Q: But grinding is boring and takes too long!
    A: Learn to have discipline.

Q:  When I get to higher levels, should I "gank"  other players?  Why?
A:  Yes, because you win and you help your faction win.

Q: When I get to higher levels, should I "camp"  other players?  Why?
A:  Yes. because you win and you help your faction win.

Q:  But isn't ganking and camping cheap and unfair?
A:  No.  The only important thing is that you win.  Fairness doesn't matter

Q: Is it ok to train mobs into players of my own faction
A: Yes.  Training mobs helps train members of your own faction by training them to react to unexpected situations.

Q: Help!  I've just been killed using an exploit!  What should I do?
A: Use the same exploit on others.

    Q: Isn't using exploits cheating?
A:  No.   The only thing that matters is what you can do and what you can't do.

Q: Should I cry about being killed on forums
A: No.  That makes you a "newb"

Q: Should I do silly emotes like /facepalm?
A: No. That makes you a "newb".

Or I could just leave the game for the gankers and go somewhere where this type of behavior is not supported.

When there is no one except the gankers left to feed on each other, even they will get frustrated and quit.

Something a lot of people seem to have forgotten. Games with a good community live far longer than games with poor communities. The behaviors listed above make for a very poor community and will thus drive out all but the most hardcore players.

This has nothing to do with the developers or the quality of the game. This is a problem perpetuated by the playerbase upon itself, and only the playerbase can correct it.

Made me laugh, and I agree with all of it apart from the exploits part. I'd report the exploit, and I suppose I'd use it myself if others are using it on me (I know, I know!) untill it's fixed.

However I won't camp a player and stop him from playing the game for no reason. If I see an enemy, yeah kill him and move on. See him again later? Try to pull it off (killing him) again!. But I don't sit there waiting for him and camping him and intentionally going for the same player, trying to make him log off. Unless ofcourse, he's done the same to me. Mess with me I'll give you all I can. :D

@ Adam:  I'm pleased to see some people still have a sense of honor while playing pvp based mmo's

You have the right attitude and spirit.  I remember playing WAR and wandering through Tier 4 as a swordmaster and

stumbling upon a mage that was soloing, I got the thrill of killing him once, and then I moved on.  I didn't camp him, or try to

follow him around the zone to piss him off ya know?  It's a sweet rush when you meet an enemy in the middle of no mans zone and get to duel.

Believe it or not, I've even seen honor in EVE online, I watched my brother played trial for a few weeks, he got ganked right outside this warp thingy, and the pirate guy felt bad and gave him some reconsiliation items and said sorry for blowing up yer ship after he spilled a bucket of QQ. lol...

If everyone had this mentality of pvp, communities would thrive and actually have "sportsmanship" in the hunt of the kill, rather than those communities evolving out of control and shape the game for the worse.

apologies for my ignorance but i must ask what QFT means as i have never encountered that before on any boards or in any games

QFT is an anacronym for Quoted For Truth

"IRL is a pretty upstanding MMO with thousands of classes, a lot of PvP and even some pretty unique emotes and titles you can acquire. Explore that world first, then we'll talk about this virtual one."

  • SoulSurferSoulSurfer Member UncommonPosts: 1,024

no worries mate, I once wondered the same question! =)

it simply means: "quoted for truth"

when you agree with some other poster ^^

Sportsmanship in a PvP MMO.. Now theirs a thought Haha.

  • snazzsnazz Member Posts: 70

In truth; if I just wanted to get killed a lot, and get really wound up the point of actually loosing it. I'd just go and play on the private servers. At least that way it costs me nothing to get pissed off.

Nothing gives me more game pleasure then giving a griefer some of his own medicine.

I will gank the griefer until I looted enough tears from him (a bucket full usually) or until he ragequits.

That`s why I play PVP games and I`m glad Aion gives an opportunity for ganking/griefing lowbies.

Otherwise i`d have to pass on this game.

The OP will be raped hardcore by players like me.

I care about your gaming 'problems' and teenage anxieties, just not today.

for the 6 months that WAR existed ( on a pure pvp  server)  I found enemies that had good sportsmanship.  So, yes, there are people who lose as a good sport.  And when you see these people throughout the week , you still engage and fight, because on different days, different outcomes will happen, and you always want to kill the guy that got you yesterday.

Even in ffxi ballista, I played for 6 years, there was sportsmanship.  How you think that community still exists to this day?

I'm not gonna preach these people are the masses, because they are not.  Just look at the pvp forums boards in your game, and you can see the flames burning.

Then you're a prize piss pot, and piss off a lot of people, they will leave and eventually the game will close 'cos of  your kind.
