I decided to try logging in some 20 minutes before the offical start time and got in without any issues, no que or lag, only got to play for a few minutes thought since I had to head to work.  Now I might of slipped in before the flood gates openned but it was pretty smooth to me.  Now only start up blunder I know of so far was actually a marketing mess up with the lifetime subscriptions so on onus on the dev team for that one.

All told smoothest launch I've been in to date

  • GrymGrym Member UncommonPosts: 301

I've seen a few negative posts on this site.

Btw, I wasn't impressed with CO, but best wishes for those of you who enjoy and intend to play.

(My son speaking to his Japanese Grandmother) " Sorry Obaba, I don't speak Japanese, I only speak human."

  • Pretty sweet and smooth so far. Server booted me once but I was able to get right in. Crazy that there is only 1 server. Pretty awesome actually.

  • augustgraceaugustgrace Member UncommonPosts: 628

Server opened 40 minutes early.  The servers dropped for a couple of minutes not to long ago, but it was quickly fixed.  No major lag or bugs.  Pretty smooth so far.  At least as smooth as the lotro launch.

I have to admit I've had no problems other than the occasional mini rubber band.  I got my life time pets, my lifetime costume peices Im quite happy about that.

They had the FP patcher fiasco to start off their open beta issues. And he was also trying to say in another post that over 6 million people bought Champions without posting any sourced information.

Game Over man! The WoW Killer has arrived!! The first slash was the subs going sold out which means we got 1.5 million already signed up for Lifetime and 3 million signed up for 6 months!

Looks like people who thought CO was going to be a flash in the pan lost the war! See you Aug 28th! 3 day headstart!!!!!!!"

Lol at a made up 4.5 million alone on Lifetime and 6 month subs.

Although I'm not really interested in CO I'm very happy to hear that the launch is going well so far. I'm very interested in STO and a smooth launch for Champions only means good things for STO. Cryptic has seemed to have not only met but totally exceeded fan expectations with CO and this makes me very happy. To all playing Champions I have to say I'm glad you all have a great game that you are enjoying. To Cryptic I have to say congratz on a job well done! Hopefully the STO launch will go as smoothly as CO's seems to be going.

Good luck and have a great time playing what looks to be a truly great supers MMO!

I'm glad they solved the patch issues from first day of OB, and it hasn't resurfaced since. They did a lot of bug smashing the last two weeks, and it seems to be paying off. (Also, playing and loving it)

In the modern MMO market, the week or so of open beta is actually the beginning of launch. Why? Because 1) the game has gone gold and few changes will be made before the "official" launch and 2) this is the first chance the general audience has to try the game, and they do. The free week is the time when the game is trying to sell itself. Open beta was PAINFULLY bad initially, and a number of people (myself included) canceled our pre-orders because of it. So... I wouldn't count CO's launch as a particularly solid success. At least it wasn't the worst launch in MMO history. :)

     Um, no.
1.) Patches occur throughout open beta. Hence when 90 percent of people who play the game -->
2.) Purchase them in stores and don't even know what the hell your talking about when you say 'open beta'
I just love Professional MMO gamers who assume that Beta = Release and EVERYONE knows how the game did in Beta.  I hate to tell you this bud, but the average gamer cruising Best Buy on the 1st, buys the game, patches the game as he installs it, doesn't know a thing about what you are talking about.  He will have never read a single beta report in his life.  And that guy has been shown, statistically over and over again, to be the largest chunk of every MMO playerbase.

    1) Like 99% of all statistics, your 90% is BS. :)

    2) The average gamer "cruising Best Buy" won't be purchasing a PC MMO. That's just how it is.

    3) The reason beta and early access is tied to pre-orders for a number of MMOs is because players both know about it and want an early shot at learning the game. Beta access is now a marketing tool.

No colonel sanders you're wrong.  By OB the only changes you'll usually see are performance, mission bugs, maybe balancing.. at least in cryptics case.. which is why you'll see a lot of scrambling the first few months of launch trying to meet the demands of everyones PvP balance issues.    You will not see major changes to the UI, Gameplay, Classes, and environment.  Thats pretty much why OB is considered a launch in many peoples eyes... at that point they can play the game and easily decide if its worth them to purchase on launch or not.

And really horkathane is way off.. CO would be lucky to reach 300K subs at launch.  He's always fanboying things way out of proportion, always has, always will... I wonder if anyone really takes what he says seriously anymore.

Horkathane tends to get over-excited about the games he plays, and his predictions frequently are wrong...... take this gem he wrote about Tabula Rasa on 10/2/07

"I've been beta testing for years and I have found that within 5 days of playing a game I know whether or not the game is good or bad. Whether you like it or not this game is going to be very very popular due to the persistent sci-fi Action MMO style TR brings with crafting. Planetside was/is a great game but it failed due to bugs, now the game is fixed but too late people move on. TR does not have game breaking bugs so it will be a hit, plus its straight up fun.

TR has NO COMPETITION. That is gonna kill all the other mmos because they are still doing the same wow eq2 formula."

But his loyalties didn't last very long, he also had some interesting predictions about SWG (in response to people predicting an upcoming Bioware Star Wars game) on 10/30/07

"We dont need a SW mmo we got Galaxies and it OWNS right now. On bria its frickin packed I was blown away as I entered the Tatooine cantina and there was at least a hundred people in there just like in the beginning!! There player cities all over the place! You guys are crazy this game is not going to die its actually growing and guess what

    SOE STRIKE BACK!!!"

By 11/19 he was playing with almost a religious fervor,

"SWG is awesome! I was raving when I began and now I am lv 39 jedi and I'm still raving and even more!!

My friends and I cannot stop playing, thinking, eating and sleeping SWG! This is like EQ 1 all over again. I just got the ability to craft my own lightsaber @ 38 which rocked, I flew all over the galaxy getting resources, crafting gear, tools, food buffs got everything setup and had an amazingly satisfying result which was so refreshing for the amount of effort I put in.

Now Im gearing up for lv 42 which I get some cool stuff and can get chased by BH's hehe. So I'm going back to leveling my ship skills I want that TIE interceptor, currently on Tier 3 almost 4 for ship. Next we gotta get into a reasearch city, just got an invite to join a guild. Plus gotta work on getting more equipment for LS crafting...lol the fun doesnt stop.

I cannot believe people are playing anything else. Its like all other games are arcade level."

But the enthusiasm was short lived, and on 1/31/2008 he wrote:

"I'm out! LoL, the whole anticipation was the best fun. So, I got what I wanted out of Galaxies it was a real good ride and allot of fun! I'm letting my account wind down to 2/7/08 and then it will be deactivated again. No negative reason, seen all the new content, its a blast!"

So, now that SWG didn't work out, where would Hork turn his focus to next?  AOC of course! (4/30/08)

"  Its time for real Men and Women to step up to the plate of the hardcorest MMO ever! We are talking a ruthless world of OPEN PVP, FULL ON Siege's and a combat system that makes all other mmos look like leisure suit larry!

Don't listen to the fools and naysayers they are chocked filled with your jobless beta test crowd that want to beta test forever for free play, your War crowd that are scared their game will launch with a band of crickets under a lonely moon, and of course the fanatical WoW crowd that fear losing their raid mates and rock, paper, scissor pvp."

Must not have turned out too well, because he had almost no posts for the rest of 2008, and on Feb 10th, 2009 he wrote,

"I went back to Galaxies, the game is still adding. I feel bad for WAR it seemed to Linear"

But he quickly got back to top form with his predictions, and in Feb 23rd, 2009 he said this about the Agency,

"This is going to be 2009 game of the year so I want to know when its available for pre-order. Finally a quality game with a new fresh perspective unlike the hash repeats we got going on for the last 5 years. This will also be the first game you can play outside of the game from your cell or pda by getting text, gps data locations in your area of places to go to unlock in game quests, and the use of payphones to call numbers from select gps payphone hacks to get info from secret contacts.

    Woot! is gonna pwn all.!"

But in all fairness, he actually first turned his attention to CO on Jan 28th, 2009 with this post,

"Action RPG is the way to go especially for a superhero mmo. It puts you in the game instead of eq based mmo style."

His love affair with SWG continued on March 30th, 2009 with this impassioned statement (caps were his)

"BRING THE PRE CU BACK OR THE GAME WILL DIE! NOTHING, NO GAME MECHANIC IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND WAS EVER BETTER. AND NO DEV TEAM WAS EVER DUMBER FOR DESTROYING IT. IF THE CU NEVER HAPPENED, WOW WOULD NEVER HAD BECOME THE #1 MMO."

Bold words indeed..... he does seem to have a deep seated hatred for WOW and looks for any game to unseat it.

But it took a while for another prediction to come out, this time regarding TOR, on 7/20/09

"This is a HUGE IP people. I think it really should be a secret and I also believe we dont have much to worry about being a poor product. This game has more money put into it that wow x4 How's $500 million dollars sound to you? It cant Fail"

But when did he focus his attention on Champions Online? That fateful day seems to have been on 7/21/09

" Welp I've decided between the current releases and those to be released which MMO Im going to go with for now. Between Dark Fall, MO, AION, Fallen Earth, Global Agenda, STO and Champions Online Im going Champions.

No hidden suprises, no frustrations and a polished game by a company that MASTERS their MMO Genre of Super Hero MMO's I played COH and COV and I have nothing bad to say about them. Great games, lots of fun and Uniqueness.

So who ever else is going I'll see you in Champions till TOR launches in 2010."

At first, his posts about CO were pretty reasonable, just a guy playing a game, but then he began converting into a CO disciple with this post here on 8/14.

"WEll Champions is getting ready to hit on Monday and I am going to go out on a limb with a prediction.

CO will kill AION! IT will erode WoW over the months and slowly kill it due to the fact that word of mouth will spread about how good the game is."

And on August 25th he jumped the shark and completed his full conversion to CO priesthood with this "announcement" about CO subs (not quite sure about these figures as he forgot to post links to his sources)

"Game Over man!

Which of course leads us to the thread today, and the joyful exhuberence over the smooth launch (which is great news by the way) and the dream that WOW is finally finished.

Rejoice brothers.... the time is at hand.

(and yes, I have far too much free time on my hand, and won't be surprised  if this thread vanishes quickly from the forums, but I had to do it)

Seriously, I'm glad to see someone finally got off a clean launch and everyone posting seems to be having a lot of fun (well, except for those unfortunate souls who didn't read their pre-order offers carefully and got left out of the early launch today)

I hope it is very successful because so few have been in the past few years  and it would be nice to see a game get /retain about 500k subs.

Well I gotta agree on one thing.  CO has had one of the best launches yet.  I know it is early access but still it went very smooth in my opinion, definitely one of the best MMO launches ever.  As I recall COH had an outstanding launch as well.  I guess cryptic knows how to launch games :)

That's some nice research. I say he'd be a good pitchman, or advertiser with all the hype he puts in things. I'm not saying anything bad about the games he's talking about, just how he's presenting himself. (I am currently playing CO, and see myself playing for at least a month or two, more if the endish game is fun enough)
