Well, as you guys may not have noticed I'm here only trying to advice newcomers such as I once was of how those companies operate.

I guarantee many, MANY newcomers that gave then their credit card number will have a little "suprise" on the next month in their credit card bill. They do rip off a lot of people that way, and they do make a lot of money out of it.

It's not unlegal, it's only unethical. You brought it once!? Now you gonna have to pay FOR EVER!

Yet it surprises me how chill about it some people are, you guys realy like giving away your money huh?

No, it's just a convenient way to play games that are meant to be played for years when they are good.

Besides, this is not a NCsoft specific "issue", if you can even call that.

Well, what we're trying to say in a nicer tone is that your a noobie to P2P games obviously. And that all we can say ./facepalm. P2P literally state that it's recurring. It shouldn't be a surprise. The only thing I can say when it is a surprise is when (DO NOT TAKE OFFENSE TO THIS) A little boy/girl takes his/her daddy's/mommy's credit card and subscribes to a video game not knowing your gunna acttually pay for the game every month. Then Daddy/Mommy finds out and he/she is in trouble.

Yep, not to mention if you're looking at your bank statements you shouldn't have a problem. Not to mention if you don't play they would reimburse you. Not to mention if you read the terms and agreements it's listed there, and also overtly when you're entering your codes.

So all in all, they're not forcing you to pay forever, if you don't play you don't have to pay. If you stop playing, you just cancel your account which you're supposed to do anyway.

This is the world of adults. Buyer beware and please understand the terms before doing anything. I'm sorry, but I'm not a saavy man as many here are, and I read and knew that they automatically charge a monthly fee that reoccurs. If someone buys a game and decides to not continue, they simply log into their account, cancel, and are done with it. Mind you one must cancel before the free period it up if it's a new game.  All companies I have dealt with for online P2P games use this business model.  Now, if you had worded your post as an attempt to educate newbies along the lines of - hey just a heads up to folks new to online gaming, be mindful of your account status and the charges you may incur should you cancel too later.... etc...  then the thread would have been better recieved, I believe.

It's amazing how uninformed you are.

There is absolutely nothing unethical about this practice.

Every MMORPG does this. This is nothing new. It's been this way for over 10 years. This isn't a surprise to anyone but you.

I'd love for you to explain how we are "giving our money away" by willfully paying for a subscription based game.

The only explanation I can come up with for your cluelessness is that somehow you didn't know most MMO's are subscription based.

Wow!!  Sorry, that is just stupid.   There is nothing unethical about it, that is how most MMO's work.  There is a monthly fee.  And there is no "surprise", they tell you that right up front.  Yes, people are pretty calm about it, because MMO's have been charging monthly fees for many years now. It is nothing new and we all know about it.  I can't figure out how you don't.

All welcome to p2p hazing aside, it sounds like he might be on the payment clock from the day he placed his pre-order.  Why would there be a scheduled payment for game time "next month" when the game will only be live for eight days next month?  Shouldn't the first scheduled payment hit sometime in late october?

  • GundricGundric Member UncommonPosts: 345

@ OP:  Xbox Live did that to me before too

I really dont think the kid knew that when you subscribe (bet he didnt know what that word meant for sure) to a MMO that you are billed every month.

So who wants to take a guess on if he got a straight up ass-whopp'n? Has to do dishes for like 2 weeks straight? Take out the garbage for a month straight? Babysit his little sister for free? Hmm, anyone else got any other guesses?

Well, most people who understand this have no issues as it is more convenient not to half to worry about resubbing every month. And regardless of whether you are new to the MMO genre or not, when "Credit cards/debit cards" come into play, you should always take advanced notice of their payment methods.

Now that you and whoever who may have not known about this reads this thread, it shouldn't be a problem right? But I don't thinks its fair to say "Never buy from NCsoft", seeing as to be fair, it should be titled, "Never setup a billing plan for any MMO ever"

    LMAO welcome to MMO's

    The following statement is false
    The previous statement is true

Happend to me in lineage 2 and they tried to do the same with Aion, I brought the game with credit card and saw that there was an "scheduled payment" for next month.
Well it's just an advice, if you don't want then to charge you stuff you never asked, don't ever give then your credit card number.
Their excuse for not refunding you? It was writhen on user agreement, yea, belive it or not here goes:
     5. SERVICE FEE; ADDITIONAL FEATURE PURCHASES AND NCCOIN

..."We will automatically charge your chosen method of payment (including, without limitation, credit card, SMS, paysafecard, ELV or NCcoin) on a recurring basis for applicable Account fees or automatically for any Additional Feature purchases, plus any applicable taxes we are required to collect, where you authorize us to do so. All recurring Account fees and Additional Feature of NCcoin purchases are payable in advance."...
So to put it in short, don't give us your credit card number because if you do we understand that we can charge you for ever because you agreed to it.
Imagine, so if you buy a T Shit in a store you'll keep receving that same t shirt over and over again for all eternity, simply because you once gave then you credit card number.
Fair? No it's not. We can do anything about it? Yes you can. Simply don't you EVER give then your credit card number. If you still doubt me, simply read the user agrement yourself.
    http://us.ncsoft.com/en/legal/user-agreements/aion-user-agreement.html
So, watch out, those Koreans know how to rip you off and won't think twice before doing it.

A guy, at a MMO site, is outraged that a company automatically charges per month, and you are telling me "you did not just say that"? Really?

Then he compared it to getting a t-shirt once a month. Not just any t-shirt, but the same shirt.

And yes I said fail flu. Why? Because I love scotch. Scotch makes me say things I would never say. In fact, my worst fear is they make an MMO based on scotch, as my life would end. Thank you.

Because that error was a small turd in comparison to the pile of crap that it was tied in to.
