That's one of the few pieces of information that were given when the game was announced back in 2k7.
And... no. Once again, jumping would have added absolutely nothing to gameplay. If you wanted an F2P WoW and didn't get what you wanted, I am truly sorry, but the game differs from WoW in many ways, and the inclusion of jumping wouldn't have kept your interest for that much longer if the core game didn't.
theyve already stated 2years ago when they announced GW2 that there will be jumping in the new game trailer juz *confirmed* what they promised jumping per se is overrated and the inability to jump in GW1 didnt make that game bad ive seen too many mmos with players jumping all over the place to dodge a fireball or an arrow or juz for the heck of jumping that killed the immersion now, Invisible Walls is a different story *that* made the 1st game feel restrictive
Ugh jumping, suddenly i'm less interested in this game with this annoying feature lol. I don't waste my time jumping in a game when it has no purpose what so ever. But since it is in this game i am assuming there will be some sort of quests that will require you to jump over certain things. If not, then expect a lot of randoms to just be jumping around for the sake of jumping. I've had more then enough of this in past games and in recently played S.U.N closed beta. I'd have to say the most funny thing about people jumping is when they think it actually works in pvp or pve lol. Anyways, despite this, game still looks awesome and i might still give it a try as a second game to swtor (not looking forward to the jumpers in that game either, but it fits the game more then it will in GW2).

Just look at Champions Online! It looks like it's a big hit and it features Superjump. Coincidence? I think not. And to Echelon78: this is an attempt from NCSoft to provide you with bigger maneuverability, whereas Guild Wars (1) had lots of invisible walls, inability to jump or simply go where you wanted Guild Wars 2 will fix those problems. It's not so much implemented to allow people to bunnyjump around in PvP and PvE as it is to allow you to feel in control of your character.
I just hope pve noobs from wow will be kept away from pvp and jumping won't become annoying like in any other MMOs (bunnies).
Ummmm I can think of no MMO where jumping helps anyone in PvP.
I'm pretty sure jumping helps you in PvP in the game Chronicles of Spellborn. Ranged users have to manually aim for their arrows to hit. Feel free to prove me wrong, as I haven't been playing CoS for very long.
While jumping doesn't make or break a game, I can see why people want it. It's an expected feature in most games, and there is no reason to leave it out of GW2.
Most modern games have places where jumping is REQUIRED to get over obstacles and whatnot and the same goes for crouching. As for bunny hopping, that's just something some people do, and it's easily cured with programming some jump spam protection into the game that limits rapid repeating of jumps if NC wants to. FPS games have dealt with bunny hoppers for ages, and it's not hard to overcome at all.
A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.

Dam look how fast "WOW" gets into every dam subject. Cant go a second without flaming WOW, even when the subject has nothing to do with it

But games like Warhammer, which also share the commend grounds of Colision Detection, dont have this problem "Even though you can freely jump".
So Iam still a little confused about why you all are so worried over such a feature. As you can see in the Trailer, that Jumping is more os an RPG thing and a PvE thing.
Jumping aint gonna ad much for the game, unlikely SWIMING!
see they talk a lot about underwater adventures. look for the seas intead the skyes =p
now: GW2 (11 80s). Dark Souls 2. future: Mount&Blade 2 BannerLord. "Bro, do your even fractal?" Recommends: Guild Wars 2, Dark Souls, Mount&Blade: Warband, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

Flying > Swiming
Note: Dragons have Wings and can Fly
yeah the Dragon in the trailer was taking a bath, but who wouldnt? Its refreshing. Still Flyers can do that in the air as well if they wanted (Rain Storm)
Having a significant part of the world underwater makes me nervous. I trust ArenaNet to make it engaging but every other game that has had underwater components the gameplay has really sucked.

the reason why underwater aspect of other games sucked because of the drowning limitation imposed by these games ANET promised that they will remove this limitation so that it wont "suck" i have a really good feeling that ANET will be able to pull it off or they wont do it at all
i actually played the first guildwars and stopped cuz i couldn't jump, i couldn't get on a ledge and had to walk around to get up.. pretty stupid.. jumping should be as standard as running.. anyone who says otherwise is retarded

Wow way to jump into attack mode. I don't think the OP was saying they didn't play GW because there was no jumping. I believe they were saying it would have been a good feature to have.
Would it have added more gameplay? No. Would it have made some of the navigating WAY less annoying? Definitely yes.
"God, please help us sinful children of Ivalice.."
I've never played GW before, but depending on how they make the mechanics of the game, jumping can have an extremely vital role. Guess what I'll use as an example. That's right, WoW.
Take a hunter or a mage or any character that wants to kite. In WoW, you could run away from the enemy, jump, do a 180 turn in the air to face your enemy, fire off an instant cast ability, do another 180 while still in the air to face away from your oppent, land and then continue to run away. The jump ability basically allowed you to use instant cast abilities against your opponent without having to stop running away from them. Without the jump abilitiy, some classes would be rendered practically usesless in WoW pvp.
I thought this was a pretty cool strategy. I'm not saying that GW has to do anything like this. I'm just saying it to illustrate the complex possibilities that jumping can have for combat.
I still played Guild Wars for a while and am dying to get my hands on GW2, jumping or not, lol. When I'm bored staring at a screen with an MMO on it, I tend to find myself jumping in circles. Merely running in circles doesn't quite cut it... I don't think me asking for jumping qualifies me for the category of hoping for a WoW clone from ArenaNet.

you CAN jump in GW1, just type /jump, and your character will jump.
I'd pretty sure jumping helps in Darkfall, or at least it did.
Either way games that don't have jumping or have really weird jump schemes (Fallen Earth I'm looking at you) feel artificial and detached.
Yeah cause in real life I go around jumping every few seconds.

Get up, pack it in, let me begin
I came to win, battle me that's a sin
I won't tear the sack up, punk you'd better back up
Try and play the role and the whole crew will act up
Get up, stand up, come on, throw your hands up
If you've got the feelin' jump across the ceilin'
Muggs is a funk fest, someone's talkin' junk
Yo, I'll bust 'em in the eye and then I'll take the punks home
Feel it, funk it, amps it are junkin'
And I got more rhymes than there's cops that are dunkin'
Donuts shop, sure 'nuff I got props from the kids on the Hill
Plus my mom and my pops
I came to get down, I came to get down
So get out your seats and jump around
Jump around, jump up and get down
Jump around, jump around
Jump up and get down
Jump up, jump up and get down
Jump, jump, jump
Jump, jump, jump
Jump, jump, jump
Jump, jump, jump
Jump, jump, jump
Jump, jump
