Is it just me, or would a feature like the one in Zelda, where you climp up ledges, be a much cooler thing than jumping? (dont know if it is in mmo, but as far as i know, its not)
Be cause as someone said, how often do a normal person jump in the real world?
We dont jump up ledges, mountains, trees, and whatever we may encounter on our daily adventure through life, no, we CLIMP! ^^ Personally i would find that idea pretty damn cool in an mmo and i also think it would give more immersion in the world we play in, but maybe thats just me.

I like your idea! And i'm glad to see you made an account to post this! Welcome to mmorpg.com
With the addition of Jumping and now Swimming we now get a dynamic feel for the world around us and yes I like the idea of climbing as well. so what I am wondering about is flight? we have talked about mounts now that there is an open world but I'm still not sure how I feel about a mount in the GW world... just not sure if it fits but seeing it in action or it not being in the game would fix that real quick, to bad we wont know for sure until early next year.

I want mounts, but they said they will stay away from Flight. Might be to avoid the GW2 vs Aion comparisons
While I do promote jumping, there are significant reasons as to why GW1 doesn't have it.
The missions, being one. It keeps you on the right track and prevents any falling or damage to oneself while battling.
The land's meshes in GW1 also seem to be a little pointier with a large invisible barrier. I agree, it's not as free, but it [Guildwars], is also a much smaller world than other games such as WoW or LOTRO. Being smaller, they were able to make it more formed to paths as opposed to wondering around and exploring. It sets focus on the game itself rather than dillydaddling around. It's named Guild Wars, after all.

It's not just the mission structure that kept jumping out of GW1.
The inclusion of jumping would have completely screwed up the bodyblocking and knockdown mechanics, which is a pretty big deal in PvP. Personally the trade-off was worth it. Call PvE what you will, but the PvPers are some of the most dedicated of any multiplayer game.
You all are missing the point. There is really no point introducing jumping for the sake of jumping. However what if many combat skills or utilities skills could only be triggered by jumping (in mid air)? Then if you think about it, why not support crouching as well? What if many combat skills could be triggered when you are in crouching position.
I guess I am the only smart person in the entire forum.

Seems to give advantages sort of like bunny hoping is in WoW. Skilled players will be better at Jump combat then others.
I think jumping is a way to stress of in some situations like a pvp (Im looking at wow agian -.-') when in in a pvp and the other player are good i seen on some friends that they are hidding the keybord (jumping tast) like a millions time when they are like talking to themself so i think its a little neutral whit the jumping thing xD

Don't worry, I agree with you. However, in some interview, Anet stated that a skill might have a different effect when used while jumping etc. so there's your justification for it. Making anything just for the sake of making it is stupid.
Same thing with mounts. If you really, really will not use them (like in combat for example), why make them in the first place?

If mounts could give you movement speed bonus, or secondary weapon (fire breathing mounts), then mounts would be a good addition.

One man, a small pile of money, and the screwball idea of a DIY Indie MMORPG? Yep, that's him. ~sigh~

I wonder if the weight of weapons/equipment/inventory would affect jumping...
