Time for me to apologize

SorrowSorrow Member Posts: 1,195

Well I defend the game both here and on the champions site for the past week.

However after trying to log in again today with zero luck I feel I need to reassess my position.

I called and canceled my lifetime not based on the patch at all but on my inability to play the game I have payed for.

First I asked for some form of incentive to keep my lifetime and the girl kinda laughed and asked me what I would suggest.

Then i was like whatever just refund the lifetime and she was like we don't offer a refund because it is a lifetime and you are

still in the first 30 free days. Im like think about what you just said, Im a lifetime the first 30 days do nothing for me.

She is like Im sorry I was like well Im living up to my end of our contract I paid for your service, you are not living up to your

end of the contract as for the last 5 times I tried to log in to play the game has crashed, been down, or been unstable.

She tried one more time with the well its just launch it will get better, my response was it was perfect in beta, zero issues

and was playable all the time. At this point I was like well Ill just call my bank and cancel payment and she was like no no

you don't need to do that we can refund it anytime during the first 30 days,  so you could wait a bit see if it gets better.

I was like no just cancel it and maybe I will come back at a later time if you reoffer the lifetime deal once you have the

game actually playable. She sighed and apologized I wished her luck and she is like thanks we need it its very hectic here.

Anyway another fan bites the dust even though I really do hope they get it fixed I really did enjoy it in beta.

RAGE QUIT OMG THE SERVER"S BEEN DOWN ALL DAY ITS BEEN POSTED THAT THEY'RE HAVING ISSUES SINCE NOON EASTERN TIME I MUST QUIT I MUST RAGE RAGE RAGE!

Seriously..rage much OP? I mean damn dude NO ONE has been able to log on since Noon Est and they've had Posts up about the Patcher going AWOL due to a maintence update that occured at 1 am PST last night ...damn...rage much? I mean come on ...I've seen games including WoW at its launch time have MORE issues that kept you from playing ...yet this is a reason to quit? A few hours of missed game time?

This is why I don't do the life time sub thing.

    Also, waaaah.

    Groovy.

    Wait it out.

I too am pissed with what they've done BUT the fact that they have reversed a few fundamental decisions (ie retcon's) gives me some hope they are listening.

So, my advice is to not be hasty.  Give it a bit and wait and see.  I think there's a good chance we'll see some improvements.   Frankly I think that is why the servers are down now.

  • MartinmasMartinmas Member UncommonPosts: 239

Sounds kind of odd that someone who enjoyed a game enough to get a lifetime subscription for quits because they  have some login issues during the first days of launch. There must be other things about the game that actually made you quit. Hope you find a game that you enjoy.

Thanks for the ragequit story bro. Sounds like you've never played through an MMO release in your entire life. Welcome to the hardships of this genre my friend!

Gee I am sorry that for one day in the life of the game you won't be able to play. There may be others down the road as well. There maybe downtime when you want to play. If you can't handle that I guess the right thing to do is quit. Some time I got up early in the morning and said

"Wow, the beta server isn't up when I WANT TO PLAY. Heck with getting this game" -- end sarcasm

seriously op. wtf! every MMO ive ever played has some teething issues at first. CO hasnt been too bad at all tbh. Youve obviously been an enthusiastic advocate of the game if you were confident enough to buy a lifetime subscription and you now expect us to believe that your quitting the game a few days after release cause the servers been at fault for the last 24 hours!

Your either an attention seeeker or you have issues my friend!

"Like... Whatever... Like.. ZOMG Server down..  And she was all like... Woah?!

And then there was like this explosion... and like.. QQ...

And like, ZOMG... I couldn't log into a game for a day and like ......"

I want to play too!  I'm frustrated it is down as my free time for gaming is a lot more scarce than alot of the QQ Rage-Quit folks ..  But seriously people, it isn't the end of the world.   Grow up.   Shyte happens.   This isn't the only MMO that has been down for a day while doing maintenance / patches..   Hell, when I played WoW, you could count on every Tuesday  / Patch Day being entirely unplayable...

This is what you sign up for, this is what you agree to when you click the "magic"  TOS agree button.    They make no claims as to up time, availability, or that you'll be able to play the game longer than a week.   No company does because nobody can EVER promise that.    In fact, most state they can be down at a moments notice (or none at all) and that is their right.    So, sorry if you made an uninformed decision to partake in MMO playing without understanding how these things work, but you can't call up Cryptic and bitch they aren't doing their job, because the agreement you "agreed" to says they are!

Now, we can have all the opinions we want about how good they are, how "epic fail" they are, how whatever, but the fact remains, running an MMO is a pain in the ass, I know I couldn't do any better.   So while I'm ticked I can't play, I sympathize with the poor employees of Cryptic while they bust their asses to get everything back to working.

I just think it's a bit too intense of a reaction.

if someone is going to purchase a lifetime sub then they are expecting to pay for it for a life time. If they really like the game then it would make sense to save some money.

Not all games have bad starts but for the most part they usually can get everything working in a reasonable time. The small amount of time that one can't log on is a blip as compared to the lifetime of a game.

Does that mean if the servers went down 6 months from now the op would call and cancel his/her sub? it just seems to smack of "I can't get what I want now so I'm just gong to take my toys and go home".

Now, if the OP was on the fense about the game then ok, I get it, it's not worth the investement. but online games have their issues. LOTRO had issues later on the development, Lineage 2 had to shut down for a few days because of a hack, and I'm sure there are other games that have had similar issues.

If the game played well at during beta then I think it's reasonable that it will play well again. If the op liked the game enough to buy a lifetime sub then why not just wait until they fixed things?

But in the end it's his money, if he feels that it's all for naught then I suppose that's the way he feels.

Anyone really believe this guy has a lifetime sub ?

Besides the fact that Cryptic is refunding Lifetimers for the first 30 days, even the 6 month accounts.

In fact i hardly believe he had a conversation with anyone in customer service.

  • Death1942Death1942 Member UncommonPosts: 2,587

so let me get this straight....you cancelled your $200 account on the 4th day after release.  Either you are quite wealthy and enjoy tossing money down the drain or your are just plain stupid.

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game

Its unfortunate that's been your experience with the game.  Personally, this is the first time I've been unable to log in since early start.  I was one of the folks hating the MTs when they were announced, yet decided to give it a shot.  I've been very impressed and have been having a lot of fun.  Having played several games at launch, I must echo what's already been said; this has been one of the better launches.

  • maskedweaselmaskedweasel Member LegendaryPosts: 12,197

Its the OPs money, and to be honest if I paid 200 dollars for something and it didn't live up to my expectations I probably would get my money back for it as well.  Why he voiced his opinion here I'm not entirely sure,  if nothing else it was probably to voice his frustration.......

My only qualm is .... if you were that quick to give it up, then the lifetime subscription in the first place probably wasn't a good idea.   Although, what cryptic did in OB and Headstart probably is a much different change then what is going on now.... ....

overall cryptic should've waited to release another week or so... this could have all been avoided.

  • AganazerAganazer Member Posts: 1,319

The game has been launched for 54 hours and people are freaking out that the servers are down. Haven't you ever played a MMOG at launch before?

Next time get smart and wait a month or better yet six months before buying a new game. It will save you from high blood pressure which is dangerous during ragequit-syndrome.

  • SorrowSorrow Member Posts: 1,195

Well think whatever you want but where cryptic messed up was in pushing patches to live server without ever testing them. If they wanted to avoid these issues they would have pushed to a test server and given them time to be tested and adjusted.

It's not just not being able to log in, because of the untested patch issues we have had a pretty unstable game.

Was in game for 2 hours last night unable to complete any missions because doors wouldnt open, zoning wouldnt work, and chat server was down.

All I originally asked for was some form of incentive to encourage me to hang in there and I got laughed at, then I got lied to by the account rep.

At that point what would you do?

Anyway Im still playing the game on a monthly basis because on a monthly basis is the server is down for a week they can and will credit you a week.

    Lifetime subs.

It's like gambling, lol. "Here, give us $200 now while we are making the game and you get in on the ground floor." If the game is good, wheee! If the game is bad (which is the norm) you lose.

But since there's no game I've played longer than four years, why would I want a "lifetime sub" ever?

I'm not sure what a game that thinks it's going to do very well in the market would offer lifetime subs. That's money they are throwing down the drain. Seems like lifetimes are for games by and large that don't think highly of themselves and their ability to generate income for the most part.

Too late Sorrow.  The damage has been done.  I took you at your word and look where it led me.  You ,sir, betrayed my trust and I am afraid the harsh bitterness of this will never leave my soul.  I am forever scarred by your betrayal so I cannot accept your apology.

    Good day sir.

    I said good day!

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Don't exagerate just to justify your actions. The chat and zoning server was down for no more than about 20 minutes. Big deal.

Like I suggested, don't buy a new MMOG again and save yourself some frustration. The first week of launch may take some patience and isn't very well suited to skittish people that get frustrated easily.

LOL played EQ for 10 years, WoW off and on for 6 years, EVE for 6 years...

    Actual cost

    EQ  $170 x 10 = $1700

    WoW $15 X 72 = $1080

    EVE $15 X 72 = $1080

Lotro for three years with a lifetime $200 : )

The math is real simple just wish more games offered lifetimes.
