Why did the game failed?(slow and fast lvl gaining not included)

RealbigdealRealbigdeal Member UncommonPosts: 1,666

So since we all know that the game failed because we can gain lvl fast, we dont need to mention it again. So other then that, why did the game failed?

No fun end game that keep you playing longer?

No world pvp that keep you playing longer?

This game deserve to be F2P like guild wars?

Others...

1 more question that i need you to post the reason,, if City of heroes is still alive and its still a good game, why CO is not good when CO are the same guy who made COH/V?

I will restrain myself and not comment on your usage of the word 'failure'. But! I'll happily answer your question as to why CoX did/has done so well and CO, maybe, not so much(maybe).

CoX was the first comic/super hero MMO to market and it was a niche that enough people desperately wanted filled that they would've accepted virtually anything thrown their way. As such, CoX was successful in spite of Jack Emmert/Cryptic, not because of them. Evidence can be seen in the increase in both the size of CoX's playerbase and their general happiness with the game since it was turned over to NCSoft(pvpers don't count).

  • YamotaYamota Member UncommonPosts: 6,593

It failed because it is shallow and basically just a rehash of CoX instead of a sequel to it. The game basically brings nothing new to the genre and altough that seems to work for some games, like Aion, for this game it is just not enough to improve on existing elements of CoX.

you are a crazy person to just say that is failed..i play CO and i think it is a great game...but with so much other things its just a matter of tast...so if you dont like it..leave it..but stop shiting all over it, because other ppl will read it and will not try it and they will miss out of a good game.

so bottom line..if you dont like something, then just dont do it...but stop telling others what you think because ppl can think for themself..

and to stop this awfull negative post...again..i like the game..so just try it yourself...and good luck.

I dont play CO and dont intend to but isnt it a bit early to say the game has failed?

  • demonic87demonic87 Member UncommonPosts: 438

The game isnt even close to failing. It still has tons of players and good reception....

I think it is because Atari said "No more money until some rolls in so release it quick."

Seems the only one that failed is the OP.

Wow, what a ridiculous thread.  The game isn't doing well, but it is far from having failed.  It may eventually close down... but not in the first month.  Overall the game will only become a failure if the game is unprofitable.  With the amount of players that purchased lifetime subs... you have to think that a single lifetime sub is the equivelant of 4 or 5 players....  in the long run it may become unprofitable, but for now they've probably done well enough that they can get their next few content updates out easily without having to worry about the grim reaper.

    CO didn't fail.

They set realistic goals for themselves (100k subs) and delievered a decent product to the gamers that enjoy superhero stuff.

In todays MMO genre we have certain games that are off the radar, they are respected games and go their own way.

Games like FFXI, GW, CoX and now CO are games that will have dedicated playerbase because they are different and aren't swayed by the WoW machine.

CO is win in my book and gets a great deal of respect for moving away from the lame "wow killer" tage that other mmos that released recently try to go for.

I play the game.  I don't the game has failed.  Are there some problems?  Yes.  But the devs have picked up momentum from the debacle a few days ago.  Things are going smoothly and things are getting fixed, now.  I wish the team portion of the game got a bit of overhaul.  I try to team with friends and can't share most, if any, missions, but I"m sure it will get fixed.

I'm giving the game a chance because there is nothing else I would rather play.  Aion is just epic fail with its forced PvP and utilizing a rootkit (gameguard).  When you uninstall the game, bits of GG stay on your system and are VERY hard to remove.  No MMO company should utilize GG.  Its just bad.  So with that being said, I think Aion has failed.  Of course, that is my opinion, much like this useless thread.

MMORPGs don't fail because you level up too quick. MMORPGs fail because people stop playing them.

No, just because you use up the content relatively quickly is not proof that they're going to stop playing. On the contrary, Champions Online is really more about the character concepts -- people will enjoy making lots of heroes in this game and retreading the same content several times.

Overall, it's way too early to say Champions Online has "did failed." You're going to have to wait a few months and see how many people are left. Under 100k? Okay, that might be a problem. Over 1 million? Woah, less than a handful of any (U.S. made and released) MMORPGs in history did that, even EverQuest was like 500k, so I guess you would be wrong then.

This thread fails as it offers no question that asks if the game is ok/good in its present state.  Just because you think it fails doesn't mean most others agree with your conclusions, try to be fair next time.

just throwing it out there FFXI ( game i very much thought im done with) came out well before WoW so it couldnt have followed the ( IMO terribly dull and simple) WoW machine. But you are correct in saying this is deffinatly a "niche" game that will likely have its own following, though probly much smaller due to it being far too close to CoH/CoV.

as much as it would be nice to have around especialy that they planned this as one of the VERY few MMOs on consoles (only others are 1999's Everquest and FFXI) i honestly cant see this being around for too long unless a major change happens (aka somthing to make it very diffrent from CoH/V and less on the "easy" WoW train)

these days to keep a niche audience you cant try for the casual solo WoW crowd, it just wont last with the slew of WoW clones these days.

    Why did this thread failed?

It haven't failed yet but it definitely is heading that way. Not even AoC has such a negative mood on its boards a week after release as CO have. People simply hate how they were conned into buying a game which was then changed into another game.

The negativity towards CO is actually far less than you would think.  You almos tnever hear the negativity in game you get a few disgruntled boo hooers and they're allowed to boo hoo unlike AoC where they immediately banned anyone that said anything negative, locked threads, and deleted threads so fast the only way to know about them were the hundreds of players that came here for 3+ months to complain since MMORPG.com boards are the 'complaint boards' considering how FEW come to complain here is an indication the game has done well but not AS well as some people believe the game should do in order to be considered not a failure.  HOnestly I never have a problem finding people there's almost always tons of zone instances open at all levels so really the only 'fail' going on are those that think because  of X number of reasons that the game should play to their X number of wants and its just outrageous.

The game didn't change that much with the patch it only changed alot for people who found the easily abused power sets and made god mode characters.  You can still make god mode style characters you just have to be alot smarter in your choice of actions.

AoC was the ultimate example of Failure.  It probably would of destroyed Warhammer and maybe taken second place to WoW if the game wasn't so entirely unfinished and actually a completely different product then what they spewed for months.  CO is actually still what it claims to be its just closer to some symbolance of balance with a few hiccups that they are giving back to the customer for like an extra day for your 30 free days, extended time for the EU players to enter their retail keys, free pets for the Lifetimers affected by the login server, and a free respec for early starts affected by the patch (which is about the only way to get a respec since the respec system is still borked and completely retardedly expensive to use).

The game hasn't failed, but the devs sure have.  This game will be in the $10 bin within a couple months.

If it does close down in time, it will be because of incompetent developers and suits at Atari who are just looking at $$$, and put no thought into what's actually good for the game.

Yet another fail thread featuirng the game being out a short time and failing. How many of these threads have we seen?

Played : WOW, LOTRO, COH/COV, EQ2, SWG, and WAR.
    Playing EVE Online and AOC.
    Wtg for SW:TOR and WOD

If having major problems the first week or two is a sign of failure, I wonder how WOW survived all their issues in the early months?

Even Darkfall with its initial issues seems to have worked them out and are now regurlarly adding content and improving the game.

Give the Dev's a chance and we'll see how it goes in the next few months, but no way to tell this early if the game is headed for failure yet.

It's actually sort of a cute thread, really.

"This game has failed.  There is no question.  The reason why it has failed is because people are leveling up so quick.

Now, why do you think it failed?"

Uh... you're speculating the game has failed and presenting your speculation as fact, and then you provided the only definitive reason as to why: because people are leveling up too quick.  You didn't leave a whole lot of room to discussion there.

Incidentally, I was playing a bit over the weekend and I think the leveling curve has actually slowed down a bit, so the original poster's complaint is now well and thoroughly obsolete.
