Aion becoming an Epidemic like World of Warcraft?

LustsLusts Member RarePosts: 205

I'm starting to believe that Aion - Tower of Eternity is starting to become a cancer that is slowly spreading like World of Warcraft. Do you agree? I mean yeah sure, we all had high hopes for this game and we expected a lot to come from it. As the previous topic that is currently being debated said. "Aion isn't that great" and I for one say it's kind of true. Sure Aion had released a few features that made the game fun, and yes I for one am all about the other aspects of the game they included instead of the constant grinding most MMO's put you through.

But seriously, everywhere I look. I always see some topic flair up about Aion as like World of Warcraft did back in it's time. If you ask me, this game is starting to become a fail like World of Warcraft did. Everyone liked World of Warcraft too much till the internet finally sank its hands in and then it went all down hill from there. I'm starting to see some topics talk negatively about Aion as well. It won't be long now till people start saying "Aion Clone!" or something related to the terms we use for World of Warcraft in this day and age.

The only way for that to happen would be for aion to surpass wow subs which isn't likely to happen in NA/EU.

IIRC, I do believe most of what you said were also being said about Age of Conan and Warhammer Online.

    How'd that turn out, again?

I'm sorry, but almost everything you said is so wrong. First of all, Wow is still the hot topic in almost every discussion regarding MMOs. What even gave you the notion that Wow is heading down hill? Day and age? What?

Aion is doing great, that is for sure. But in no way even close to Wow as of yet. I'm not trying to make Aion look bad or anything here. It's a well known fact that Wow is in a class of it's own in regards to MMOs.

Aion may not surpass World of Warcraft, yes. None the less, Aion may become a Negative Epidemic like World of Warcraft has become. I've done Korean and the Chinese Beta Test for Aion and I simply can't get myself attached to the game. Sure it's fun for it's PvP and it's Abyssal "Capture Point" PvP and such. Sadly that is the only aspect that has really caught my eye. I know it's against the rules to talk about Private Severs here on MMORPG.com, but hell; Aion hasn't even been fully launched yet and there are already a few Private Servers out there for it. That alone hinders my respect for the game.

Soon you'll start seeing millions of servers up for Aion. Soon you will see "Aion" this and "Aion" that. It's only a matter of time before Aion sinks in the depths where World of Warcraft currently resides. The only way I can see Aion pulling out of this one is to seriously take action onto the current Private Server developers and to tighten' up their security a little bit. Of course, that is my own selfish thinking. None, the less.

Blizzard lost my respect when they sort of stopped giving a hoot about private servers. I mean, yeah I still wonder how they make an income off their game after so many servers being released.

World of Warcraft is in no way, shape, form, or fashion a fail.. at all. It's the exact opposite, it's an enormous success. I don't even play WoW and I can see that.

Edit: Also, its no epidemic, you can just choose not to play WoW and choose not to read posts on the WoW forum and all. Other than that the occasional reference to it, and like you said, maybe a reference to Aion in the future, is no reason to  go insane and classify the games as diseases and such.

Don't get me wrong. I am not stating that Aion nor World of Warcraft is a bad game. I personally agree that they both have aspects to the game which make them fun. I am only stating that Aion is starting to become an epidemic like World of Warcraft. Every corner of the internet I turn, I see something related to World of Warcraft. Whether it be Ads or a simple Google Search. Aion seems (in my opinion) to be doing the same. I'm starting to see Ads here and there, and even the occasional topic relating to Aion.

Sorry, I have to quote myself on this one. I believe I have contradicted myself. I just saw that I stated World of Warcraft was a fail. I apologize for that one. Well, in ways it seems a fail to me, but it still has some aspects to the game that make is fairly interesting.

I am only stating my opinions about what I think and I am very glad to see you guys are coming back with your opinions. I just wanted to see what you guys think.

Why do private servers bother you? Is someone forcing you to play on private servers? I'd rather they focus their efforts on hackers/cheaters/bots etc.

Why exactly is this a problem?

Private Servers don't bother me the least bit. It's just very discouraging to hear that there are already like what, five or six servers before the official launch.

It's commonly called 'advertising'.  You know, like when you're watching tv, and the show you're watching takes a little pause, and these other people come on and tell you a little story about something...a product or an item, usually.  These little mini movies are called 'ads' or 'commercials', and they try to get you interested in said product or item.  Usually the ads will be somewhat catered towards the show, or the time of day, or the type channel you're watching.  Google searches are the same; if you search for MMO, you'll get whatever ads they have pertaining to MMOs thrown in your face.  In this case, Aion or WoW.  Let me know when you see Ozzy Osbourne doing an Aion commercial.  Until then, Aion is small time.

I see where y'all are going with this and I am only simply stating my opinion. I see I have lost here but these are my opinions and I wanted to see what y'all would think of them. I've expected the worst. I started this topic to get a conversation starting about Aion vs. World of Warcraft to see what the general public thinks.

Basically, Aion's OBT is a good example of about the WoW fans keep WoW the "King" of MMORPG.

However, my above comment is rather unfair to WoW.  Since it does have its merits as a mmorpg, and I can see why it became the most popular mmorpg.  WoW is easy to access to the population, and draw in crowds of players that never even played a single mmorpg before in their life.  It has a solid game design by a reputable company with a good amount of resources.

WoW itself have no problems as a game, but some of the "players" of WoW (I am not sure if they actually "play" WoW) seem to be the ones that is making WoW look bad.

Either way, it does not matter to me.  I am not looking to play the best MMORPG in the world, I am just looking for a game that fit my own personal standards of gaming, and Aion happen to fulfill more than enough to make me a player.

Even though I absolutely detest and hate WoW, and for all the smack/trash talk I post about that game-

    It is not fail.

    This^^

And to add to that I think that the only thing that really keeps people playing WoW anymore is not the gameplay, far form it. I believe it's because of the people they play WoW with. 8 out of the 11 million people that play wow are complete idiots who by no means have a life at all, nor can they play the game as well as they should considering all for the time they put into it. But that last 3 million people, you are sure to find someone who is liked minded like you and when you get a guild like that, I can understand that "family" sense they get from it, makes WoW hard to leave.

But honestly people need to realize you'll make friends in other MMO's as well. It's not like you will only have friends in WoW.

Veritas Vos Liberabit- The truth will set you free.

Do these threads ever end? i hate wow, i never played it. But come on sometimes I just want to call people dumbasses. Let a game freaking release and a few months pass before ever thinking of comparing it to WoW. Even after a couple months its still not fair to compare. AoC was the MMO savior, AoC was the wow killer, blah blah blah................. War was the MMO savior. WAR was the WoW killer blah blah blah..................

The only epidemic we have is ignorant people making these ignorant threads.

Do I think Aion will spread it's influence like WoW has on the mmo genre?

Not at all, Aion is basically a copy of a bunch of Asian F2p games, WoW and L2.

It is going to be a niche game in NA/Euro even if it explodes more in Asia.  I think the next real cancer of the mmo genre will be TOR.

    PLaying: EvE, Ryzom

    Yes it does.

I have friends (rl and gaming friends) with very very similar gaming ideals. IF they tell me something from another game that they dont like, its 99.9% sure that I wont like it. Its not just MMO's. Anything from single player games to MMO's. I have saved a bundle of cash from listening to them. When I went aginst their opinion I was burnt.

Also I am pretty good at reading real reviews and deciding from them if the game is for me or not.

Keep in mind I loved Warcraft, played them countless hours and a huge Bnet fanatic. Loved the lore as-well. With WoW its not hard to tell at all that I would hate it. It goes aginst just about everything I look for in an MMO. So if your one of those people who have to play a game to know thats fine.

Another Example: Aion, I am not a PvP fan so do I have to play Aion to know I wont care much for it? Hell no, I know I wont like it so whats the point. Unless I read some reviews on a great PvE system I am skipping this game. It would be stupid for me to buy Aion and then be pissed that its a PvP focus.

The only class WoW is in is a special ed class. I am so SICK of hearing people speak of WoW as if it is something special. Blizzard did the same thing it has done over the years. It found a good game by another company, slapped some new paint on it, added a frill or two and then dumbed it down. Then it releases the game like some holy grail of gaming.

Just becuase you have the most subscribers does not make a game great. The only thing WoW has achieved is to awaken the world to the MMO community.

As for Aion it is yet another attempt to stick something in a genre that has been done to death and claim it is new.  It will quietly melt down as so many others have and fade into the background except for in the minds of a few rabid fanboys.

lets revisit this thread in 6 months, and then a year.  Those rabid fanboiz have found thier "niche" game.  It may not kill WoW in the western market, but it should thrive imo.

I agree, after my stint in CB, while the game is not something i will buy i see it being around for a long time. Not a WOW killer but a good solid title.

Considering Aion has been in OB for what... one day now?  It might be a bit early to call it pandemic.
