This game has to be joking; Weve all seen unstable servers before; but an entire game plus their web site to crash unexpectedly with no back up system !
Wow, didn't you see the info above. I read it elsewhere myself. It is NOT Mythics fault, a fiber cable was cut. Verizon is already on it but it may be into tomorrow. Not Mythics fault at all. BTW, how do you back up a fiber cut? You don't, that is PHYSICAL damage not online based. Thanks.
I hate EA but love Mythic. Love WAR.Hate Gaion and their fairy wings.
Mirrored DR servers located in a different part of the country/world on a different network/fiber. (at least that's how my company does it)
Never put all of your eggs in one basket.
But yeah, its just a game, and downtime happens, no big deal.
In a REAL Data Center...
Every Server Has 2 of everything... 2 NICS with 2 Network Connections ran to mirrored enivroments seperated across the building.
Every Server Has 2 Power Connections Ran to 2 Seperate PDU's off of 2 geographically different Incoming Services
For a total power outage the data center is backed up by 2 seperate generators that back up your A and B Electrical Feeds
All of the Electrical should be behind 2 different UPS Systems
That prevents any kind of power failure....
In the event of a disaster you roll out your Diaster Recoevery Site which is generally leased equipment off-site or a smaller company owned area.
Fiber cut.....
There should be two incoming multi strand fibers with 2 different service entrances.
