Never had issues myself, but expect to see preorder and sale numbers head further up. I just wish they'd find a different security fix than GG. This may lead to that, if GG can't get their act together and they can find another provider. Holding my breath over here.
Dont really think this is going to have any effect on sales numbers.
Also, I've had experience with gameguard, it's main purpose is tp stop the script kiddies and noobs from using or making bots. Making a bot is ridiculously simple, but goign through gameguard is a whole other story (when it's working anyway). So please, before saying Gameguard is useless, learn what it does before, you are only spreading misinformation.
Which is pretty much what every MMO's version of security is meant to do, right? No matter what, there is always a way to get something like this working, but the goal is to make it so difficult that everyone and their grandmother cant do it.
Limits suck but I would think 8 would be enough for awhile. Although I have found that after a couple years you may meet someone at work who plays on a different server and need more slots then that eventually. I still have my 10 year old EQ characters and restarted on many servers over the years with different people. Probably got 15-20 characters that I leveled over the years over 3 servers.
Does this mean everyone who said they wouldn't be playing because of GG will now be?
Probably not since they are still saying they will put it back in later.
They said they might put it back in. But remember, they took it out cause it's causing more trouble than it's worth, so I really don't see them putting it back untill it's been "fixed". Afterall, what's the point of taking something out if you're going to put the same thing back in later? illogical.

Not illogical. Box sales at launch. I and others have already said we would try it if GG wasn't in.

So they would rather put the same GameGuard back in and loose subscribers?
See where I'm getting at? Box money is temp money, month sub is a steady income, would you not want both?
With Gameguard temporarily disabled now even the folks with really bad computers can play. It's not because game guard was bad, it was because there are so many kids out there that have no idea how to put together or maintain a good computing system.
There's probably a more sinister reason for it though. So they can weed out the hackers from the start of the game, lol.

Yup. Some of the people who start at launch will decide to stay with the game after playing for a while, even when GG is put back in. An MMO is a hard habit to break. I went back to Warhammer twice.

That's too much wishful thinking on you part. Do you think they'll just leave the game totally unprotected, even if this protection was sub par?
How many other popular MMO titles use GG? WoW, LotR, AoC, SWG? I could go on with the list of popular MMOs over the years...and I don't recall any that had a security system that caused so many issues like Gameguard has.
Now that GG is gone I might just try this game out again. Tried beta...but couldn't get past GG issues.

And as a result, those games are all piss easy to hack :P. Anti hacking systems aren't new, but it's hard to truly secure a game, as hackers always find away around them. Take the wow glider, Blizzard uses the Warden anti-hacking/botting program, and even though there's a whole team behind it, Glider was (for the most part) always one step ahead of them.
Imo the best protection would be a server sided app that monitors players location, movement, damage taken and dealt, etc.. However, I'm not sure how much of a servers resources that would take and if it would lower performance. Though, I do believe that Lotro had a server sided anti- exploit check.
Thank goodness! Another plus for NcSoft! They realized GameGuard was one of the problems found in OB. Unable to correct the problem, NcSoft dropped GameGuard allowing for a much more playable game!
Umm... it's nice that they are currently removing GG and all... it's also a fact it doesn't guards much and beta feedback was massively towards either making it decent or removing it, but what do they have now for cheat detection and prevention? A GM taskforce spread over 24 servers?
Well, GG doesn't really work anyway from what I have googled on it. Looks like it can be easily bypassed if you want to cheat. Personally I'm more worried about my own system being compromised by GG then I am about people cheating. I don't want to give up my security for theirs. They need another solution more in the lines of what other games do IMO.
I agree. I'd rather suffer cheating while AION finds a better, non-invasive way, to stop it, than to have GG running on my computer, violating my security.

They removed it now? Now that I got my refund and completely removed Aion and GG?! Damn! Not fair... :-/
It's because of people like you that GG was removed. You used your wallet to speak for you and they heard you. Your actions have helped those of us who decided to stick it out and we appreciate it
Dear god, the servers will be plagued by bots -.-.
lol game guard never prevented this in the first place, its a joke. my friend was one of the ones having trouble with GG so he just disabled it, some one else said google it, its easy to bypass. he just had to put something in its folder to turn it off.
Depends on the version I guess, some version will do a file check before each launch (that's when GG shows up top left corner and checks it's file for a few seconds). When it does that, it will redownload itself if any alteration were made and auto-launch, so the "bypass" which is really changing the gameguard.exe with a dummy .exe, fails.
Also, I've had experience with gameguard, it's main purpose is tp stop the script kiddies and noobs from using or making bots. how is what i posted misinformation? my friend bypassed it with something he added to the folder, he got the walk through by googling it.and it was the GG version Aion was using, it was Aion he was having problems from GG with. now they might "fix" GG and THAT exact file he added won't work later, but within a couple of days tops people WILL bypass it. GG has always been a joke for security, how many games with GG has you seen NOT infested with bots? the new patch on the korean test will kill most of the ore gathering ones. after that goes in they will need a player sitting at the computer to enter the code for when they get the sickness. wich kinda defeats the purpose of a bot.

LOL. Wow, that was a good post! A lesson to learn for many.

I preordered the CE, where I live, I will be paying 89$ +tx for the game. I was gonna cancel my preorder on the last minute because I was waiting to see what they were going to do with GG.
Well, I decided I will still be canceling it because I am not stupid enough to fall into the ''you are the customer, we are listening to you, we removed GG and we will be putting it back in when you pay for the game and you get invested in it''.
I respect NcSoft, I've dealth with them in the past without any problems, but this time, I will not be making the mistake of buying Aion.
It would be like going to buy a car, the car has a crappy engine, they change it, and then after I pay for the car, they put the engine back in. Makes no sense. Because GG will never be a quality product, they will never fix all the problems with GG. It is a virus (not a literal virus, more like a viral infection).

well fuckbuckets.
so how do I go about removing gameguard from my computer now?

You take it to a qualified computer engineer. (ask your lil sister to do it for you). Don't attempt it yourself, you'll fuck it up.
